What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Yep, though your comment made me go look at some older pictures to remember if it originally had any blackening there. I don't think it lasted any longer than the blade etch. :D

What a cool picture!

Sweets for the sweet; something weird and little today, for me:

You call it weird, I'll call it beautiful. That is a looker.

Thanks, and I actually agree. "Weird" comes from elsewhere, in discussion right here in this thread when Charlie was in the process of unveiling his first-ever TC Barlows. I love the #25 pattern(s) so much, I immediately co-opted the descriptive as my own. :)

...what does WLST stand for? Seen it used a couple of times in this thread and can't figure it out.
Weird Little Stubby Thing
All royalties go to Pertinux who has the registered trademark.
Yes! It all started in Charlie Campagna's estimable thread, What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?, in which he presented scans of his traditional barlows of yore and then slowly but surely unveiled the on-going development of what would become the #15 TC Barlows.

When it was clear that new, 3.5" barlows were indeed the pipeline, puukkoman did say, and I quote:
I'm really looking forward to these, too. It's exciting to see GEC produce a REAL barlow, instead of that weird little stubby thing they've been making.
And off we went! So, Alex/puukkoman gets original credit, but as pmew notes, I jumped on the trademark right away. To whit:

Of these Weird Little Stubby Things®, I'm going with the one in the middle.

I will never forget that picture of Stan Shaw holding up that TC Barlow, Duncan!
That a great Master like Stan would have any interest at all is an honor, especially for Bill who makes them so well; with his heart and soul!
And ~P, WLSTs will live on forever! Our great grandchildren will bid them up on FutureBay (hopefully, an improved version of the current conundrum!) hoping to own a fine example!.
Gus your pics are worth a thousand words! Rachel that peach-pic is worth a thousand and ten!

Great to see those pics again Duncan, such a wonderful day, I wish it could have lasted forever :) That's a fantastic photo of one of my most treasured knives :)

Edit - There's been a lot of disruption here because of flooding, but I received a nice Xmas card from Stan & his family today, as well as the good Mr Gary (Peregrin) :) :) :)

Every time I come back and look at this thread I want to buy more Barlow's. Some gorgeous knives in this thread.;)

Been carrying these around with me all day - Thought I needed some soup to fend off the 16 degree temps this morning. :):

I don't know who to blame more for my thinning wallet, Charlie for his S.F.O.'s or Primble for his photography. Enablers! ;)
