What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Sam, I understand wanting to carry a backup, but with a Charlow, I doubt you really need the chainsaw.

LOL you always need a backup! What if you run into someone you really love and have to give your Charlow away. I figure if you really open that thing up and run a little nitro methane. That chainsaw won't slow you down too much. Still, I prefer to keep an extra Charlow in the truck..

Just sent out the first shipment of these guys :D ; stainless liners and bolsters, 14-4CrMo blades:

Charlie, that's a fantastic spring shot, the only thing blooming here are the crocuses, everything else is still grey and cold. Next week's finally supposed to be in the fifties, maybe that'll bring a change. What a long winter it was!

Hey Duncan!! Nice to hear from you!! Hopefully your knives are winging there way!!
Get well soon!!
Here's a mystery/tease picture for you!

Is this an original two blade spear point, with a Gabon ebony two blade spearpoint above?

Russell

Picked this up off the bay. It is a salesman's knife that is a cross between a Barlow and an Electrician's Knife. It is a Colonial.

Looking good Eric! stag sets it off and I like the engraved bolster on this.

Thanks for the pictures, Eric! I had just searched around again earlier this morning to see if any of these had appeared yet.

I like the "CS" on the bolster. Will all the knives sport the same, say, the sunset bone as well? ;)

Good eye. :)

Thanks Paul and Russell!

P, not sure on the CS, there are a few samples floating around with a shield as well. Possibly it will be the choice of whoever orders the knives. We've got an order going out this week with jade G10 covers, I'll let you know what pops up on them ;)

Eric

Also, I believe these are also for a single blade knife, if you look at the paper. I flipped it and it looks like the whole thing might say:

15
Boy's knife
Spear
Single BLD.
[something] carbon
?25 pcs

Very exciting! I'm guessing they are going to do a run of bare-end #15s in ebony, red jigged, and nifebrite. Or possibly a run of TC Barlows done in possible leftover gabon ebony? Maybe this is going to be a Northfield run of the #15! Whatever it's going to be, I have a feeling I'm going to like it no matter what (I just hope they keep the long pull and swedge!).

+Nice rendition of a Barlow from CSC, Eric! I am glad they did a Signature Bolster! It really makes a Barlow interesting - shields not so much. Call me prejudiced, but I don't like shields on Barlows! I like Stag though!! Hmmmmm. . . . . .
+Nice chainsaw shot indeed - just stay away from that Cherry Tree!!
+ I'm glad someone finally saw the Gabon Spear!!

Eric, so are the micarta covers also going out? I'm going crazy on Barlows right now. Got 4 Charlows and looking as these CSC's now. I may need an intervention.

Lovely looking CS Barlow's.

Burnside - thanks:)

Charlie, your beautiful Cherry is safe just think of me still chopping wood when you next stroll past the tree in shorts and flip flops!

I didn't realize you had a piece of CSC Eric.

Very nice Barlow you've shown above. Jade G10 covers sound kinda cool. Give us a look when you get a chance.

I'm glad someone finally saw the Gabon Spear!!

The things we miss when not paying close attention . Aren't you afraid to post these things when so many people know where you live? :D
Did the nice folks at GEC make one for you or did you assemble it yourself?

I
I too noticed the Gabon compared to the first shipment of Ebony, and wondered why Charlie was showing us the Spearpoints- I didnt click about the spearpoint finished in the new Ebony!!! Charlie- how many spears were completed using the Gabon?
Im blaming the hospital drugs :-)

I love the image of Charlie at home in his Mickey Mouse hat, working away with his Build Your Own Barlow! kit. ;)

-- It has just come to my attention that I previously mis-attributed the coining of "Charlow":

Aside from my Charlows....
Charlows. I like that.
I'm pretty sure I stole that from pertinux.
Nay, "Charlows" comes from the inestimable pukkoman, coiner of the IN-famous (<-- Three Amigos reference) WLST®. Best keep an eye on him.

While hesitant to lift surveillance on pukkoman for obvious reasons, more careful research has revealed that the first-ever mention of "Charlows" pre-dates Alex's/pukkoman's in this thread, and was in fact in an exchange in the Whatcha Got On Order? thread:

Charlies Barlows! What else!?
Me too. Charlows:thumbup::D

Ta Da, etc. etc.

The dapper Mr. Rob is thus due assignation of credit or blame for "Charlow," depending on what one had for breakast how one feels about the moniker. ;)
