What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I took a picture of my Barlows the other day thought I'd post them.

I've been crazy busy each afternoon this week so if you answered in the other thread I probably missed it, Randy. Can you give me some details about that wonderful bone large Barlow to the left?

I think I spy a Camco at the bottom, too. Funny how a "bargain" marque got the long pull on the master clip. I have 3 or 4 of the black Delrin Camcos and they're all long pulls (and all save one has an identical wear pattern -- the odd man out is unused).

These look awesome!

Hitting refresh on like 3 dealer sites all day erryday... :o

It's a Robeson 512224 made by Camilus somewhere between 1965 and 1977. 9" oal 5" closed 4" blade with smooth bone covers, brass liners, nickel silver bolsters not sure of the blade steel but believe it to be carbon.

Nice! I'm encouraged by the fact that I guessed right about the origin (I was convinced it was Camillus). I have what I believe is a black Delrin version of that same knife, only not even in the same ballpark in terms of condition. I am considering a slight reprofiling of the blade, if not an outright rehandling, but all the telltale signs from your knife are there and would remain.

Now if I could only get a NOS version. :D

Nice knives, Jack, Randy et. al!

The Antique Yellow sawcut handles vary quite a bit - from very dark brown (a few), to quite yellow with a darker streak down the middle (most).
They ran short of Amarello (Yellow Heart), so they are filling in the gap in the order on the two blades, with Gabon Ebony.
I can't wait! Many of you will get them before me, so please post them!!

Wow Charlie they look great. The tube looks cool and I like what you wrote on the back too.
. That's great news about the 14s I was told it would be next week because of a blade etch issue. Im glad I got it wrong lol:D.

Those are beautiful Charlie! The whole package tube art, pin, dialogue and TC are exceptional:thumbup: Lloyd

Thanks for the pics. I have been waiting for get to add more work in process pics and it hasn't been happening so this is awesome.

Sigh. Let the scramble begin... :o

(Really do hope I get one or two. I'll probably be going into work early every day to prepare for that 20 minute window when the TCs are available...until they're not.)

Charlie, those knives are beautiful. They're everything I'd hoped for and I have a feeling everyone will realize the size is perfectly fine. Thanks for the photos, I can officially start planning my shopping cart attack. The key will be to get in, pick 'em, and get out immediately. Gonna make sure my favorite dealers all have my info right and ready to rock. :D

deltaboy, after seeing so much of the serpentine stuff you have, I'm surprised but also glad to discover that you're a Barlow man. We've seen that Camco in the first photo, and I'm fairly sure I spy a jigged red Case atop the second, but I couldn't place that dark (black synthetic?) handled large Barlow even after rummaging through my own trying to match it. What kind is it?

P.S. I left you a visitor message since I was unable to send an email through BFC. I have a late holdout from my recent Grand Barlow Tour of The Far East soon to arrive and I think it would look good nestled among yours.

The Grand Daddy Barlow is a Robinson made in the 1950's.

One of the Camillus builds? I had a bit of an inkling but I couldn't be sure without seeing it open. :o A few Robesons have popped up recently, I'm glad to see them getting around now. I'm after one myself, at the moment, thanks to a pointer from r redden.

It is built like a Tank.
