What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Hah! I like "Soup Bone" the best. :)
Those look so cool... Definitely unique, and interesting in their own way. Making me wish I hadn't already spent my knife budget!

This 1905-1944 Wolfertz barlow looks to share a family resemblance with the Charlow:

The spear point TC would compare even more closely.

Definitely close cousins!! Nice comparison shots, Owen!!

So, I finally managed to drag a few of these Soup Bones home to scan. I was hoping there would be some gnarlier ones in these four, so maybe I will bring a couple more later. Some have asked if they match front to back. I have only looked at a few, but given the irregular material, they did a remarkable job. I love these things!! I may have to "boil" one, and put it in my pocket!!!
After all, I gave my clip boiley to a knifeless friend, so one of these would make a worthy replacement.

Looking good Charlie, the more I look at that Bone the more I like it! and I liked it very much when I first saw it! It looks as thought the fit and finish is just as great as the previous runs - brilliant!

Why stop now? ;-)

You're a better man than I.

I agree, however-- one of these new soup bone iterations would make a worthy replacement, indeed.

Thanks for the scans. Those look fantastic, much better than even the sneak previews promised.

They did a tremendous job on the matching.

Wow.

My mother's favorite soup was Beef Barlow errr. . .Barley - Beef Barley - I kid you not!!:D

Thanks Duncan, Sarah and Barry!

Yes the fit is as good as ever. despite the scraggly nature of the material.
GEC Bill told me it was harder to do than "normal" bone, and I believe him! Nice going in Titusville, folks!

The gnarly barly soup bones are living proof that even a wrinkled stained shirt can look great when paired with barlow attire.

Charlie, or other barlow afficianados, we have barlows and daddy barlows, but . . . how about a big-brother barlow, at 3-7/8" closed (give or take an eighth)?

Those bones look fantastic, Charlie! I would definitely like to see what some of the more gnarly ones look like.

I'm really looking forward to the Gabon Ebony Wood Spearpoints coming my way!!! They will match up nicely with the gabon clips...

I am enamored with this Gabon Ebony  I absolutely love these covers. I missed the first run of Spear Barlow's and was fortunate to pick up the latest with the pulls on opposite sides.

I've carried my 2 blade Clip everyday since it arrived on March 23rd. The 2 blade Spear just showed up yesterday and as I told Charlie in an email---it is PERFECT!!! Centered blades, ZERO play or wiggle when open, the Gabon Ebony covers meld with the frame of the knife.

Many of us say "This could be Thee knife" well, this could be THEE knife :)

I also told Charlie that I now have a "Charlow" to pass on to each one of my boys. To me these are working heirlooms.

Thank you Charlie for all you do!!! I know it is definitely appreciated.

Now for pictures of the new arrival :p

Great shots Paul, and pretty neat to know that your boys are going to have one each! Do you notice any difference at all with pen blades being on different sides? - its not something that worrys me, but others prefer this - what say you my friend?

Spearpoint with Pen Ebony Charlow arrived, next to my Pemberton (same size as a Peanut), for comparison.

There is a nice gold crescent on the Mark Side Ebony cover.

I agree Duncan, LIFE IS GOOD  Thanks for making it that much better :)

Duncan, no problems with pulls on opposite sides. I prefer the same side but not a problem at all my friend!!! Sorry I keep missing your calls :o It's really neat to know these will live long after I'm gone in the hands of my sons!!!

Great Shots, Paul! These photos make me even more excited to receive my gabon spearpoints!

Thanks burnside---I am just really happy with these Barlows!!!
