What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Carrying my Hartshead Barlow today, and my Random Tuesday pick is a William Rodgers Sleeveboard :) Have a good day everyone

A terrific twosome for Tuesday, Jack; your Hartshead is brimming with cool character and the Rodgers is certainly quite a gem! :D

Here are some posts I fondly recall from last week. It's all so subjective!

Carried and sharpened the Case Sodbuster and then had some very good Double Bock with one of my Son-in - Laws . The Andechs is very hard to get .

Harry
Admirable Sodbuster, Harry!
I've never had Andechs, but Paulaner Salvator is one of the best beers I've ever had! I had it in Europe, and it looks like I'd have to travel over 100 miles to find a store/bar that might have it.

The ebony canoe’s been with me all week. Such a comfortable pocket carry.

I'm a big fan of the canoe pattern, so I can't help but compliment you on your compelling ebony Case canoe!

We went to a neighborhood 4th of July kids’ bike parade this morning.

I hade my stag 25 on me today.

og21Ss7.jpg
That stag EO 25 is bodacious, Bart! The Independence Day bike parade looks fun; we have one, begun in 1934, that starts just a few blocks from our house, but I haven't gone to it for several years now. When our daughter was young, she expected to go every 4th of July and come home with a big bag of candy that the minions of local politicians in the parade would toss to the adoring crowds.

Hunkering down with the pup for Bombardment.

iTXxY0m.jpg
Dandy patriotic trio of knives! I know what you mean about "hunkering down with the pup". My wife actually has sedatives prescribed by the vet for our dog to take in the week leading up the The Fourth, but she still couldn't get him to poop/pee before bed that night, and I had to carry him outside the next morning because he was too nervous about potential explosions.

Excellent 2-dog knife photo! Exemplary whittler!

First class Fourth photo, Alan; your all-metal Laguiole is fascinating!

Grand pair of Bulldog Barlows, José!

On this segment of Today's Reveal ...
Messy desk is large enough for a whole dang canoe 😲

Handsome S&M canoe, Jim!

Camillus times two for Tuesday

Iconic bone on your Camillus pair, Steve!

Pretty little Peanut, GT. 🤠
Thanks, John. I've seen some knock-your-socks-off chestnut Peanuts posted here, and couldn't resist getting one for my very own.

sometimes I hit the ball so poorly I need a shovel to fix my divots! 🤣
😁😁 The only way I've been able to avoid that is to give up golfing. Very effective "fix", but kind of extreme.

With this Ciol with cork hands.

Always a joy to see your cork-handled Ciol, José! I've got my eye on a Mora model with cork handle.

Today, I have my Lambfoot, which was a gift from my friend across the border in Wisconsin. He also sent a series of massive thunderstorms, which rolled down out of the north. Monday night, after the girls were in bed, I dragged a chair into the backyard and watched a spectacular lightning show. When the lighrning bolts were so close that it looked like they were at the barn across the field, and I could hear that sizzling sound right before the crackling boom, I thought it would be smart to retreat to the house. And Harry sent another wave of storms yesterday afternoon, which set off the flash flood warnings. My garden thanks you, @Old Engineer!View attachment 1863126
Kudos for having friends in high places who can help you out like that, Jeff!

In honor of my mother, 1928-2021, who passed away one year ago today, I am toting her only pocket knife. A Case small stockman that I gave her as a stocking stuffer for Christmas, back in 1995. The idea was for her to carry it in her purse at all times, however, when it came back to me, it appears the idea never quite took with her. She would bring it out and show it from time to time.

Her kitchen knife, wielded by her most every day, since she loved to cook, was a different matter. I will use it for my dinner preparations tonight.

Touching tribute to your mother, Robb.
Her kitchen knife reminds me of a couple that my mother-in-law had, at least through her entire marriage. She came from "humble beginnings" in northern Kentucky, and gradually drifted northward, first to southern Indian, and eventually to Indianapolis.

Good Morning Porch Friends
Your ebony WCLF is a laudable, lissome looker, John!

Oh yeah. He summersaulted off the stoop, landed on his feet running, and shot under the truck like a rocket. Albeit, a really slow rocket :p
Gotta be some kind of ninja turtle, Mike!

Magnificent pair, Rachel; congrats on the new-to-you Lubotco!

’85 Canoe today

Another noteworthy canoe! What does Case call that bone color?

Toting some French Juniper and Olivewood today. :)
Ooh La La, JJ; Vive la France!!

In line with the recent announcement by Charlie, thought i would post mine. Unfortunately lost my first ever pocket knife, A Joseph Rodgers Bunny knife single blade. Wish i still had it. 😢😢😢.

Looks like you could ravish some rabbits with that trio, Leon!

When I look through this thread it makes me realize that I really don't belong on the same internet as a lot of you. You as a group have and show such incredible stuff. Yet here I am and here I shall continue to appear.
...
I relate to what you write here, but one thing that I really appreciate about The Porch is acceptance of anyone who's enthusiastic about traditional pocket knives, no matter what form that enthusiasm takes or what "quality" knives are involved. I've usually felt as welcome here with my rather low budget approach as are those who are interested in high-end customs, or whatever.

My S&M #99 Scout again today, naturally. :)

Splendid knife! I also have an S&M #99 (thanks, Jack), albeit with a different shield, at least:
S&M99.mark.halfopen.jpg

Great that you still have your first Gary !
True fact, Steve. And usually in the occasional threads about "if you could only keep one", I end up concluding that I'd probably take a "first in, last out" approach and be happy with my original scout knife if I had to go back to only one knife.

...

The last few days I get up, open the windows, and mess around out in the yard or go to town for couple of hours before it gets too hot. Today, I took the trash out, put a couple of bills in the mailbox (how archaic of me), put a new license sticker on the bike, took a few knife pics and I was ready to go back in and turn the AC back on. Dew point of 74, 89% humidity. Its only 80 degrees (F) out, but sheesh it just drapes around you like a heavy, hot, damp cloak 🥵 Glad I'm not going to be out working in it all day 😬
Anyway, enough whining, its better than a foot of snow View attachment 1863891
...
That's my attitude, too, Mike. I waited 7 or 8 months for some warm weather to return, and I think I'd prefer 90˚F temps over anything under 50˚ for sure!

...

But I found a new ally in the garden. And I am revising my hatred of yellowjackets. I found this guy eating one of tjose little devils~View attachment 1863976
What's the old saying? "Gardening makes strange bedfellows!"

Wow, that's a winning sowbelly stockman (another of my favorite patterns)!
