What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Finished all my chores, gonna have a couple beers then pack up for a few days at the shore.

This Case Hawkbill arrived within the last hour. The fit and finish are excellent; even the secondary bevel is pretty good (although it did need to be honed to remove the wire edge). I was a Case quality skeptic for years - the ones in the Case case at the local hardware store were pretty rough - but this is my third 2021 Case, and all three are quite well put together.

Part of the appeal of these pruner knives for me is that they wonderfully present a very functional and practical design, in something that looks both elegant and just a tad bit goofy. I love them, and I'm happy to own such a solid example now.

All that, plus my usual Proper.

Spent an hour or two this morning helping cucumbers achieve their highest purpose in life ~ as dill pickles!7B06F7D1-EC8D-42C9-B162-9E96A7509743.jpeg
The flies have been insane the last few days, but mysteriously were totally absent for a while, so I was able to chop stuff up outside.
First sweet corn, and whether Mrs Fleschwund likes it or not, it looks like sweet corn every day now.🥴
The squash, onions, garlic, and tomatoes, along with fresh basil, oregano, and four kind of cheese is gonna get layered and baked.
Chicken thighs on the grill for a side dish.CA27692A-D50E-4721-860B-FC4061650EBD.jpeg06A90D6E-0633-44A0-8CCC-3EA1EF8901D3.jpeg

Sounds like a great supper my friend

Uh-Oh. About 9:00 PM last night the call "Vehicle versus Black Cow" came over the scanner. It's almost impossible to see a black cow on the road much less a black cow and a small cross-over SUV had hit a Black Angus Cow at a high rate of speed. The highway was closed, the car was totaled, and the two people in the car were flown out to Redding, CA to Mercy Hospital with major injuries. The cow, also suffering with major injuries, was put down (shot) by a Sheriff's Deputy. That's when the fun began as there was a disagreement as to who would remove the dead cow - the County highway department, the State highway department, or the rancher that owned the cow. Since we have "Free Range" here meaning a cow can go where it wants unless your fence it out, the rancher was not responsible for the "Vehicle versus Black Cow" accident or removal of the dead cow from the scene. Since it was a state highway, it turns out that the State highway department had to remove the dead cow and they took it to the dump to dump it. We're going to town later today and will do a drive by at the tow yard where the car is. Word is that the entire front end of the SUV is folded. In case we have to ward off a cow while on the road today, I'll be totin my Tribal Lock Lumberjack.

That sounds like quite an ordeal, Ed. I hope everyone is okay. Cow vs car is never good. Where I run my cows is much more urban and not open range, so we have to fence in the cattle. We still end up with things on the road occasionally and have to respond quickly because it’s always a worry that someone might hit them.

That looks nice, Tyson. I’m not sure how I didn’t even realize Case was currently making a pruner.
