Thank you for the advice calm , Sacto , and Amir Fleschwund . I have read your suggestions. I did not realize that they are crisp like an apple. I have kept waiting for them to soften up. I will do some experiments and report back. I am thinking of Persimmon pie, if I can convince my wife to give it a try.

Eat the fruit? The trick is to get the fruit ripe without making it too soft and unappetising looking, which happens if they rippen fully on the tree. They taste like dates.
You can pick them before they ripen fully and put them with apples to ripen, or in the freezer for a few days to soften. Remove the outer skin or eat the inside with a spoon
There are also varieties that can be eaten before they go fully ripe and soft.

The wood from the tree, I think, is especially dense and can be used for knife handles.

I think you just eat them. As in bite into it like you would an apple. But maybe you can find something interesting here:

I eat them when they are still relatively firm. Just peel them and slice them up. They’re good on salads, too.

Most of my yarrow looks like this~but a few of them decided it was warm enough for another round of flowering ~ One of my favorite plants, I’ve spread it around quite a bit.

Today, I’m using these two: a TL-29 modded into an elk stag single blade jack, and another single blader, a Case.

I’ll use the trapper for food , as I did with this cilantro I cut out of the garden to put in our eggs this morning. Along with green onions and cayenne peppers and BACON.
