What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Scout’s costume was a bit more… imaginative. I honestly still don’t know how exactly we landed on this as a costume. A while back she asked me, “What kind of penguin is a bat?” and somehow that evolved into her being a penguin-bat for Halloween.

That's great! Made my day :D

Carrying this Opinel #8 with Padauk wood handle, I modded this one to have flat sides which makes this MUCH nicer to handle in use, less rolling in the hand from the original round handle.

and the top end of the handle usually curves up, which doesn't help much for me, so I ground that down and rounded it a bit and that made it also more handy.

Great idea Gary. I hate the round handle, can never index it when cutting. I'm going to use your idea on mine :)

A clear but chilly start to the day in the City by the Bay! As expected no trick or treaters last night 🤷. No big plans for the day other than doing a bit more house cleaning before my daughter comes in tomorrow. Keeping me company with a nod to Wooden Wednesday a lamb with ancient bog oak handles and, you know what I like. 😀

No trick or treater dared come up our gravel driveway last knight because our vicious, watch dog, Utah was on duty.

Who needs a knife with fangs like Utah's flashing but to be on the safe side, I've dropped this Black Curly Maple Sowbelly in my pocket. Sausage and waffles for breakfast.

A new to me Queen from 1978 hanging out in the front pocket today. Plastic cracks but other than that it looks like it's never been put into service. It's absolutely the perfect size (3.5" closed). The blade etch says York cutlery company which I've been digging into a little bit.

I know this winterbottom bone was their thing, but winterbottom plastic ... Eh... maybe I can recreate those covers in bone. Could be fun.

The large lambsfoot along for the ride in my side pocket.

You are right on GT. Chris knocked it out of the park. This was such a thoughtful gift and I have greatly enjoyed it. It has settled in quickly with my other burlap gems 😁.
Jon, "thoughtful" is an apt description of Chris 321Bandaid 321Bandaid ! :thumbsup::cool: Last week he sent me this Case chestnut jigged bone CV trapper to add to several other Case chestnut jigged folders I've acquired over the years. Muchas gracias, Chris!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl (but she doesn't have a lot to say)! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

That 83 is a cool lockback, Chris! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: Did you mention that you're making/getting a lanyard for it?

Wooden Wednesday...

I have a Buck 373 that was the last knife my late father-in-law carried, and I've carried it almost every day since I got it, even though I haven't officially named it one of my literal EDCs yet. It's a very nice knife, so it's just a matter of time. 🤓

Waynorth Western Whittler Wednesday 😎👍

Taking Big Rose to the market tomorrow :thumbsup:

You sure know how to show a lass a grand time, Jack! :thumbsup:🤓:cool:

I only count one hump per knife, so dromedary I guess. ;)
:thumbsup:😁

I'm always impressed by your whittling, but I'm usually impressed by your painting, too! :cool::thumbsup::cool: You often paint so that the "facets" from your cuts are "colored" but their edges are white. Do you paint the edges around each facet, or paint, say, the brown over the entire hat and then remove the paint from the edges, or is there some other technique?

Like those 2 knives a lot .
Thanks for the very kind words my friend , but it was not Done yet in that photo . It is now done and I took a photo of it with almost all of the others that I have made .

#92 today. Since @Old Engineer and @Amir Fleschwund posted their walking sticks, I thought I would too. These are my take on the Blackthorn Shillelagh. None are made from Blackthorn, just local hardwoods. They’re about 36” with the tallest one being a little over 42”. I generally cut the wood and hang the sticks to dry for at least a year before I process them into walking sticks. Thought y’all might enjoy seeing them.

Impressive walking sticks, guys! 😲:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I always liked that "modified" Trapper. 🤠 :thumbsup:
Thanks, John. :)
It's a by-product of black mamba black mamba 's renowned Beerbelly Stockman! :thumbsup:🤓

Is that a Longaberger basket you keep your knives in? I think my female siblings and siblings-in-law at one time in the past found baskets like that very desirable (the GECs of wicker baskets?).

Getting away for a few days. 😉👍View attachment 2369093...
Looks like a fine place to get away, Todd! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
Is that cast iron cap next to the path in the foreground the access to the water supply for the cabin? Did you have to turn on the water when you moved in?

Your KA-BAR-LO is awesome! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ultra-cool Catts, Rob! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
