What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Random thought: Am I the only one that would probably prefer shieldless knives? I think they look so-so, or just bad on some (most) knives. It would save a step and look so much cleaner in my opinion. Is the tang stamp not enough? I think GEC may be the only ones who consistently executes it well. I get it... apples and oranges. It's like putting Ford Racing decals on a Mustang. Oh, it's a Ford? Yeah, no $#!&. Ok. I'm done. Have a great evening, errbody! 👍🏻

No you're not the only one lol, some things just look cleaner without tons going on, less can be more 😉

Chris, for me it depends on the design.

Different strokes for different folks I guess , but I believe that most shields add just a little touch of skill if properly imbedded . I prefer the UNXLD , TIDIOUTE and the simple CASE XX since that is the majority of my collection .

I certainly doubt you are alone...and I wouldn't agree with you there. It does of course depend on the pattern and the choice of shield but shields are an interesting & rich feature of American Traditional knives in particular. GEC has certainly been active in reviving the use of many beautiful shields. Ironically, they've also funked out on putting shields on their Stag knives for quite a few years now  and they've come up with a few like guitar/banana shields that I find really appalling & kitsch. But, at least we are all different- thankfully.;)

I should probably clarify: I do like the GEC shields. Well done, and look great. 👍🏻 I think I had minor (major) OCD-fit looking at my Case knives.

That perspective makes that fixed blade look much bigger. That trick works for taking pictures of fish also. 😄👍
Looks like a fine place to get away, Todd!:thumbsup::cool:
Is that cast iron cap next to the path in the foreground the access to the water supply for the cabin? Did you have to turn on the water when you moved in?

I believe it is Gary, however, we did not have to turn on the water when we stayed there, cool little cabins.
Case/Bose wharncliffe trapper today.

Great knife Bart, love the photo. 😎👍

321Bandaid 321Bandaid It's fine, you should stick to your views, a big aspect of Traditionals is the aesthetics, after the utility.....:D It's always valuable to hear other peoples' views or tastes.
After re-reading my original post, I did seemingly make a very generalized statement. In reality, I do love my GEC shields and a lot of others. This ole sodbuster of mine... we have our good days and our bad days. 😂

This Bunny has been following me around for a few weeks now.....

Oops, having issues attaching a file.....

I get what you're saying. It's odd when Case puts them on stuff like their Barlow's when there's so much bolster space & they only do it on some runs then stamp the bolsters on others (which look better imo). That being said I do love a good shield, just needs to flow with the design 👍
