Lately this rather rustic Opinel nr 10. Don't let your friends handle your carbon steel knives, they will leave them in the washing bin and you have to save what you can. I cleaned the blade the best I could, dried the wood in the oven in a gentle temperature, forced a patina with vinegar, then soaked the whole knife in olive oil. This used to be folding kitchen knife when traveling, but I will get a stainless nr 12 for that duty and modify this for edc role. Maybe change it to drop- or spear point and make it a full friction folder with no locking ring? I have had similar knife and it worked well.

Nice stag Bob and Thrifty Lamb is looking good !

Hoping for more of these in the near future, but if the calendar clue was a smokescreen, I’m lucky to have this one.

Given to me as a gift for my daughter, to go along with the Case Canoes my dad and I gave to all of my brothers and nephews.

Nephews may be jealous of their cousin down the road IMG_9720.jpeg

Thanks, Bob, and congrats on that outstanding Mohawk canoe (the Lockwood Bros. lamb is no slouch either).

Coincidentally, my Stag/Horn Knife of the Week happens to be a Colt canoe:

Work Knife of the Week is a Chinese Imperial Sodbuster Jr. style knife:

My carbon steel and cast iron are pretty much items I only get to use when around friends for that exact reason. When I used to live with a bunch of my friends they had put my chef's knife through the dishwasher, thankfully it was a stainless one, but still erked me.

I bet that Opinel would look handsome with a spear point!

Good Afternoon porchsters,

Another knife that I dont know what it is, I have called it a sausage finger knife.

The ingenuity of the old Sheffield makers is amazing, for a while I thought the little rings were for hanging on a key chain or something, it turns out that the pivot pin is square and the ring is used as a turnbuckle to open and close the knife. Since I am indoors today I will fidget with it a bit.

Very cool ring-opener! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Same here. There's too much drinkin', drivin', and shootin' off fireworks around here on New Years Eve. I might step outside to watch for grass fires or bottle rockets on the roof at midnight. πŸ˜†

Happy New Year, Porcheteers!

As usual, we had a couple of bullet wounds here from gunshots fired into the air at the stroke of midnight. :(o_O I guess not all gun owners have a complete grasp of the influence of gravity on projectile motion.

Happy New Years Eve porch friends !

Y😲WZA! Those lanterns are a lot bigger than I thought from seeing the photo of the package you posted!:cool::thumbsup:

The last 2 years have been interesting going through knives, acquiring new ones and trying them, making decisions on what works best and what I like most. Have made decisions on most of the horde, need to concentrate on some Buck folders and a few fixed-blades this year.

Not sure if I'll be posting daily or weekly in 2024, will see how things shake out. Might be a bit repetitive.

Anywhos.

Bucks going through the wringer - 503, 112, and 055.
original.jpg

I'm pretty sure the 503 will stay. Likely the 055 will get gifted/ traded. I'd like to find a 500 drop-point to compare to the 112, I think I'd prefer a slimmer profile. Will be looking for a 303 in Dymondwood to try, and have a line on a 532. Then I'll be taking a harder look at the fixed-blades.

I hope everyone has a safe and healthy New Year. :)
The drop point blades are very handsome, and the 500-series Bucks sure look elegant to me!:cool::thumbsup:

Day three of the Moki theme

Moki certainly makes some knives with strong visual appeal!:thumbsup::cool:

I like both of those Gary :D
Thanks, Jack. :)
Glad you had an enjoyable getaway!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

My old Solo today w/ a little KME edge action. Not too bad for a rookie! πŸ‘πŸ»

Good-looking edge, Chris! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
KME is supposed to be a sophisticated sharpening system, right? I doubt if I'd ever get anything like that, but I have a couple of low-end guided systems that I ought to learn to use, instead of being satisfied with hand-honing on the unglazed edge of a candy dish cover!

Holborn Lamb and a Schrade Cutco Hunter & Trapper Special

View attachment 2442824
That Schrade is another unusual knife in my experience, Steve; it's like a muskrat with 2 styles of clip blades (and awesome jigging)!!:cool::cool:

My daily carry is almost always a Case and/or a Buck, along with a SAK, but for the start of a new year I thought I would go with something different. I have a few USA Schrades and I really like them, but they almost never get carried. So yesterday I got out my 897UH (bought NIB a year or more ago and never carried by me), touched up the edges, and put it in my pocket. I think it's the perfect size and a really good looking knife. (So good looking, in fact, that I've always considered it "too nice to carry" and that's just silly!)

IMHO, that's the "Platonic ideal" of a medium stockman! Gorgeous Staglon, too!:thumbsup::cool:

I wish my Aussie-Doodle felt that way about wet weather. He whines at the doors trying to get out to play in the mud. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
Aussie-doodle? We're gonna need a picture, with or without mud.

Bob, I don't think any of us believed you about getting a canoe. That sure is a stately one, nice choice.

Sunday around the house anti-draft patrol

SNkzC1Ah.jpg

Black Monday, couldn't resist carrying the HJ again for moral support. Not pictured is the SAK super tinker, the real hero of the day. More caulk and foam, the bill has now gotten into handbuilt slipjoint territory 😳. Hopefully that comes back to me pretty quick via reduced gas bill this winter?

Have a great day everyone! I've got some shoveling and sledding to get done now.β˜ƒοΈ.

So I wanted a 6318 and probably looked at half a million of them over the last year before seeing this one. It just instantly stood out! This is from 2003 and it's probably the nicest case I've seen in terms of fit and finish. Perfect blades, solid snap, nice grinds and edges... everything is smooth and works well. Awesome all around.

I put it in the case thread but I'll be scratching it up for a while so why not here as well. 😁

guess isle add a phesant knife to my belt.
Douk Douk EL BARAKA to keep with the not stainless (excluding the SAK Huntsman, of coarse) theme.

Bee sides ... its patina can stand sum improvement ... πŸ€”πŸ™„

The Douk Douk knives are excellent! Cheap, sturdy, strong spring, and patinability (is that word) for days. My Douk Douk is probably my sharpest knife, you can really get them scary sharp.
