I hope all goes well for your wife and son. Those first 5 years are the best. Their growth is amazing and they help renew your sense of wonder about the world.
Your bullet is my favorite of the series.

And if you’re really lucky they want to do the things you like doing. My Charlie is already a knife nut and loves hunting. His enthusiasm is impervious to cuts, cold and discomfort!

I'm carving a stick of birch and mourning. This is a labor of sorrow, our much loved dog was euthanized just some days ago. Still he lingers, he is in shadows, walking beside us on paths, at his favorite places at the yard, greeting us when we return home from work. Nudging us with his soft snout, his soft fur under our hands.

So sorry to hear this news -- but, thank you for the wonderful way you expressed what you are feeling. It strikes a chord with all of us who love our four-footed best friends...

SAK of the Week is a Victorinox folding paring knife. It's long, light, linerless (with "liner lock"), and laser-like.

Stockman of the Week is a Chinese Schrade 858OTB Lumberjack: 4.58" closed, stainless steel blades, sawcut bone covers.

Im ready as ill ever be, I figure it’s payback for not sleeping as a baby myself!
I like your statement about fatherhood being a lifetime goal of yours🤙
The world needs more of that.

Don’t worry about losing sleep. Two of ours quickly got with the diurnal program right away.
Remember ~ baby wakes up hungry at 2:00 am, get up and bring him to Mom- go back to sleep👊
Baby wakes up with a loaded diaper, get up and being him to Mom. Well… good luck with that🤔

We're still cleaning up from a flash flood that roared through here 10 days ago, but things have dried out pretty well. These two today.

Stay safe and hydrated during the cleanup. If your temps and humidity are anything like those following a hurricane you can end up with heat related illness before you know what is in you

Grabbed the 73 and the 86 out for a photo of my stainless GECs, and now I’m pretty sure this will be a good chunk of my rotation for the week 😁
Pretty hard to get this 47 out of my pocket. Been hunting a 440C version for a long time, and now that I finally have it it was worth it!

Just got back from visiting with the family in Texas, and meeting the new farm dog. Betty is a good girl, and a great addition to the farm!

Where does the time go? These quotes are from last Tuesday and Wednesday, and here it is Monday before I comment on them.

Anyone else have the ‘Monday Blues’ on a Tuesday after the long weekend? At least carrying one of these Rough Ryder blues will be a bright spot!! Have a good week!!

Nice trio of RR blues! I've never seen one of those blue sawcut sowbellies before.

😍 that canoe.
Thanks; the "crater" is quite memorable!

Baxter Lamb and a SW Trapper

Notable pair sittin' in the sunshine, Steve!

Going to town to mail bills. Will eat lunch at the Brass Rail. The Wagon Wheel Cafe has fallen on hard times - will be closed from now on on Tuesday and Wednesday. It's up for sale. It was a sad day this past Thursday when it was listed in the Real Estate Section of our weekly paper. Coffee for breakfast. This carry for today.

Sorry to read about the Wagon Wheel Cafe cutbacks, ED.

Fine pair of animals, David! Are the covers on the Beaver Tail jigged wood?

Dynamic duo; I especially like the Diamond Edge scout knife!

Thwack!!!... Doing some playing around after work...

Gec Moose & Victorinox Pioneer riding shotgun today 🎯

Capable couple of knives! Good thinking, Zach: every new uncle should probably polish up his blowgun skills!

A rare midweek estate sale with no pictures of knives or tools (my collecting focus) turned into a knife bonanza.

Here’s the group shot …

Four nice Case knives. A 6202-1/2 from 1972, a Stockman from 2002, a Doctor’s Knife from 2001, and an Eisenhower from 1940-64. The Eisenhower needs a good cleaning, but was the real prize in a $5 box!!
View attachment 2653045

Two very minty Gerbers. A PK-1 in the original box and a Sportsman (?) with its sheath.
View attachment 2653046

Two large fixes blades with sheaths. A Schrade 165 Deerhunter and a Kabar 1207 Bowie. Both in really nice condition.

At the bottom of the group shot is a Queen #26 Stockman, Boker USA Stockman, and an early Leatherman Micra. At the top is a German-made, by NY labeled straight razor.
Massive score!! (In some of the softball leagues I used to play in, the game would be stopped by the "mercy rule" with a score that big.)

Hypnotic Horn, Jim!

Splendid old knife - useful blade and grand wood grain in the handle!

Those Catts got my tongue, Rob, especially the jigging on the top knife!

Faithful pair of work mates, Jeff!

Another Craftsman Stockman and SW TL-29.
The little one got carried, or rotated with two other Schrades while I was off at UI, a 293Y, and 33OT Jack. Bought them all new while working at Sears Paint and Hardware Dept during high school and college.
I left my two Boy Scout knives, camping knife, and Bowie hunting knife, Colonial and Imperial. My two younger brothers swiped those.
Happy WW.
Interesting photo and story, Jeff!

Good wood, Patrick!

GT, are you implying that you'd be "quite happy" with a Solo over a Canoe? 🤔 Somebody get the paddles out. 🐂 It's gettin' deep in here... (see what I did there?) 😃
😁 Chris, you gotta remember I'm talking about what could happen in "knife nuts hell" (KNH); there's no chance in KNH I'd get assigned a canoe there (or a sowbelly stockman). Under those conditions, I'd be pleased as punch to get "punished" with a Solo!

Couple of budget beauties!

I used to say that if I my house burned down and I lost everything, the first knife I'd replace was would be the Opinel No. 8 - that can cover most needs until I have more time later to think about rebuilding a knife collection. But since I acquired my Solo a few years ago I've changed my tune - that would probably be my first replacement. The Solo is just a great pocket knife. (Don't get me wrong though - I still love my Opinel!)
Totally agree, Tyson! (Except my Opinel of choice would probably be a No. 7 rather than No. 8)

Inspired by 5K Qs 5K Qs comment earlier today I've added the Solo to my GL-24 for today.

Superb pair, for sure!

Sausage and eggs for breakfast. Attached to the homestead today. Inspired by Gary's 5K Qs 5K Qs comments earlier today, I'm gonna give this Black Curly Maple Sowbelly a carry today - Perfect for Wooden Wednesday.

That's another sensational sowbelly, ED; that shield looks great with the black curly maple!

I'm good, visiting my brother. He's trying to set the record for longest hospital stay.
Here's hoping that he heals soon enough NOT to set that record, Bob.

Wow, that rosewood is incandescent in the sunlight, Steve!

So I spent a little time cleaning up the $5 Case Eisenhower that I picked up yesterday and I’m more than happy with it. The blades are full and the snap is strong.

Before …

After … with a little bit of Flitz and some light Dremel polishing. Generally, I don’t think 60+ year old knives should shine like new, but this one needed some serious cleaning. I’m really happy with this little gem!!

As they apparently used to say when I was very young, "I like Ike!"

New lamb, new day. Thanks again @Rufus1949 shes a beauty.

Man, the combo of dark blade, copper bolsters, and stag handle is a visual treat!

Very versatile blade.
I agree, Leon; the spey on big Case trappers is essentially a straight edge blade with just a "tiny tummy" out at the end.

I've never had an Opinel smaller than a No. 6; maybe I should try one of the smaller ones sometime. José, were you away for awhile, or have I just not noticed your posts for awhile?
