What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Got my yeller handled Case Barehead Slimline Trapper in Tru-Sharp today, and it's gracing my back pocket next to my handkerchief, as it should.

Nice knife! Slightly off centered blade that was easily corrected. Got the best service from any vendor I've ever gotten when buying off the 'bay, too: I did a Buy it Now on Sunday night, and it's in my hand on Wednesday. From MA to OR. I am impressed, both with the knife and the service.

OK..you got my curiosity up. How bad was it and how did you correct the centering of the blade.:)

It wasn't quite touching the inside of the liner, just not "centered". I fixed it by crinking it a bit. Needed a tweak at the tang and another near the tip, almost as if the blade weren't quite straight.

All better now!

Is that a Tina I spy there?

I dont think so, though Ive never handled one. I think they have 5 rivets or so, this one has 3, furthermore the markings are different, and it has a rest of a IN GERMANY - GD sticker on it.

The circular stamp reads WFR O DGW and below that 1E10 1/2.

if anyone knows something about this knife, feel free to share.

But nonetheless this knife is a great user.

Hello Peter,

Both those little slippy's look like wonderful users!. If you want to know about the origin and factual information on knives like this just take these really fine photographs of the knife and start a new thread over at Bernard Levine's Collecting sub forum. Besides Bernard there is a good following of folks over there that know they're stuff. Especially when it comes to German pieces. Yours looks extremely interesting.

Also, if you please, I must ask about that little Stag folder you have there in the same picture?. From the scales she appears to be another vintage gem.

Just thought I'd try my Schrade UH stockman today. Nice pocket carry, smooth rounded profile. It's the 837UH. Bought it used for $10.00, seems like a nice little knife.

In my pocket I have the Tru-Sharp yellow handled Barehead Trapper that I've been carrying lately.

In my briefcase I have a Schrade Old Timer 194OT "Gunstock Trapper" (locking) that I just received through a Wanted ad on this forum. 1095 blade, made in USA. Very nice.

I have a whole bunch of higher end knives from the $50-125 level, but often find myself going back to the basic, simple knives -- many with plastic handles -- when reaching for an actual cutting tool.

Thanks for your kind comment. I will post in BRL's forum once I get better pictures of the stamps.

The Stag knife is another knife I acquired recently. It has stainless blades and I dont know much about this one either. I dont think its anything special.

Here is a better picture of the stag knife.

OK, I'm stopping the lurking and even became a Standard Member today. I always have a Leatherman Squirt S4 on my keyring and a Spyderco Delica in my pocket, but I recently purchased a J.R. Cook Forged Trailing Point Hunter in his usual 1084 with German silver guard/bolster, and Desert Ironwood. It will be going with me on my 482 mile hike on the Colorado Trail beginning next month.
