The more photos I see of that appaloosa bone the more I love that knife. An exceptional pattern, Dean! I hope you write the world's greatest thank-you card to Paul. :D

I think I'm going to have to toss my "working" '82 Case appa-Barlow into the mix for tomorrow...

A special Scout knife today, my first Rough Rider that is also a birthday gift from 5K Qs, thanks GT!

Good looking RR Scout Tom!

Got this one from my mom (thanks to Donna) for Christmas.

That is a handsome looking knife, congrats!

The not often seen pile side of my Northwoods Burnside in smooth amber bone.

I got these clinging around in one pocket together. Just kidding that isn't happening, just the new 77. I just wanted to show my swell end jacks together all GEC too!

Really, really nice combo, Tom!

Today I have a new Barkie in the stable - graciously sent to me by a fellow BF member (not sure if he wants his name mentioned) - The Essential, at the lake and in the woods, of course:

Indeed!

I too chose The Precious today.

ZING Jeff, definitely precious. Love the bark on this one.

Thanks, Tim. I sometimes have difficulty following instructions.
Your knife is a stunner!

Among my carries this week are a Kingston cattle knife,

a Winchester dogleg jack,

and a Cudeman from Toledo, Spain.

- GT

Thank you GT,I carry it less these days since it's a prized posession but when it does come out I loveusing it.
Your lineups always seem to cover all the bases~

Getting a feel for the Texas Jack again before a possible order~

...
Incredible whittler! What kind of hardwood?

...

As for me, a trio of Ka-bars komprises my karry krew today:

Thanks. It's ebony, but of the lighter variety. Both sides it's darker as you get closer to the blades, and lighter as you go closer to the spring.

Love that serpentine Jack Kabar! Looks like it would ride well in the pocket :)

Nice new Barkie, Derek!

GASOUTHERNBOY, Nice Schrade 3rd Generation. I had a few of those that have been gifted to my sons, on various occasions. I always liked them.

I was out in the woods today with these two. Ohta Small Camper and one made by Greg Lightfoot in Rose pattern Damasteel and Elk antler.

Carrying the Dowell swayback today after a little stropping.

And a beautiful Sway Back Dowell it is Jake!

On a winter hike with some bone marrow and something for the pub afterwards.

CV blades on that Texas jack? I hope to eventually get that kind of gorgeous patina on the blades of my 6375 large stockman pictured here, which looks to be the fraternal twin to your jack. Lovely knife!

a rubber wheel on a Dremel got rid of the ugly brown color but clearly was too abrasive for the steel and marred the finish underneath. The toothpick and serpentine jack were recent pickups; all I've done is oil the jack. I still have some cleaning to do on the toothpick. Anybody knows a good solution to clean that black gunk off the blade edge and tang without risking damage to the steel?

Not a good choice to use a Dremel tool when cleaning a knife. It works too fast and almost guarantees a less than stellar result. Try hand cleaning with abrasives next time. ;) A Super Eraser would work well to remove the black. Fitz would also work, but, leave the metal shiny.

The advice is much appreciated. I dragged out the Dremel to take a tiny bit off the tang on a random stockman that had seen years and years of use and sharpening, and as a result the tip of the master was peeking up above the liners. I zipped off a sliver of tang with a cutting wheel and suddenly that stockman was sitting low and safe when folded (yet still trivial to deploy the blade). This was my "let's see what happens" experiment, but unfortunately I went a little nuts with the rubber wheels on the Ka-bar and a well-used Japanese Sabre daddy Barlow. That wheel will wipe the grime away but the finish won't be the same, obviously.

I just happened to really fall for the look and feel of the Ka-bar Barlow in the intervening weeks -- it is one of the examples with squared, cornered bolsters that I have not been able to find again anywhere. I've seen Ka-bars with angled cornered bolsters and squared rounded bolsters, but none with the bolsters pictured here. I need to research Ka-bar a lot better but I have an inkling that this kind might be a little harder to get.

Any ideas how to uniformly polish up the blades and minimize the damage? I think more can be done to make my Ka-bar look nicer, and that bone Sabre might even end up looking good if I can manage it. Plus, if I only screw things up nothing is really lost. :D

Today I am totin' my Case Amber Jigged Bone Medium Stockman CV. I got bored last night and decided to try my hand at forcing a patina. Turned out ok I guess. Not as smooth and uniform as I was hoping for but, Hey, I wont complain.

Indeed TsarBomba the product of just food and daily chores. Really handy in the 3 5/8's size. I'm trying to imagine one at 4" closed. Your stockman is really nice, I like how white and vibrant that bone is highlighted.

Very cool, those RR Scouts are nice knives

Thanks Jack, wishing you a warm, dry new year.

Good looking RR Scout Tom!

Thanks Erik, love the pile-side approach, great detail on that shot
