What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

These two. Now that Spring is almost here I think I should add some color to my life. Have a good weekend everyone.

I think this one will make next week in my pocket again!

Looks like that Presidential has been put to work, Nature Boy. Great photo!

I went with a combination of new and old match strike pulls today:

Sigh. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've spent too long beholdin' this one. :) Thank you, Primble.

Nice Powderhorn, Brett.

An Ancient TC Barlow and a Simmons Hardware penknife (as well as the Presidential) today.

Home today, carrying this small Horsewright aka Dave Ferry Coyote fixed blade with elk horn scales, nice handy size.

I’ve come to know this combination as “Tomstyle”. :D This particular pair is probably my favorite. I can never take my eyes off that Queen, and your Barkie’s handle material is far and away the most attractive I’ve seen on their knives.

Lol, thanks for the kind words Tsar, much appreciated! That queen does glow, great pic

Today's carry, freshly stropped and ready for duty. And coincidentally what I consider to be my ugliest City Knife, just never really warmed up to the carbon fiber for some reason.

I love the style of this makers fixed blade. Does a really good job of implementing a bolster and keeping it sleek and sexy rather than bulky and ugly. Awesome knife.

"Is the Case bonestag or just the “natural jigged bone”? I imagine it’s the latter but due to the smallish surface area of the bone on that frame it might go either way. I like that Ike but the Rodgers steals the show. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a saber-ground hawk before and that is one of the more intriguing patterns I’ve seen on a clamshell."

The Ike is bonestag to the best of my knowledge. Jack Black asked if the Rodgers was Ebonite and I don't know enough about Rodgers' knives in general or Ebonite in particular to accurately answer that question. I know enough to understand that a lot of the regulars here on the Porch have forgotten more about Traditional knives than I currently know.

Love the monochromatic feel of this photo.

Thank you very much

Looks like you started something with the fine 66 pic Mr. Jack ................ and also the followers ! I don't have one to follow with. :o:D

There must be something in the air! :D I'd intended to carry something else today, but those 66's...;)

Two real lookers there my friend, beautifully captured as always

Looks like that Presidential has been put to work, Nature Boy. Great photo!

I thought so too, a really interesting composition

And that's a great-looking pair you have there yourself :)

It STILL looks pretty good Tom ;)

Edit - Sorry, double post, see below

Thanks, Horsewright, Dave, does a great job, and his sheath work is top notch too.

I was actually responding to the post by Major Works (below)

Nice pair! Is that ebonite covers on the Rodgers?

Unusual Rodgers, doesn't look like Ebonite I don't think.

Edit - I'd add that the covers AREN'T Ebonite, and if the Rodgers tang-stamp is genuine, my guess is that the knife was produced in Richards Moore Street factory in Sheffield after both firms were acquired by Imperial in the late 1970's

Holy Mother of Pearl!! Charismatic Chamblin, J_Curd!! Wow!:thumbup:

Totin' my Cattaraugus Swell End Jack Knife, model 22479, 3.25" closed:
Most likely a pre WWII knife with the hammered pins.
There is a faint etch on the blade that says "The Reading Railroad", which went bankrupt in 1971.

Enthralling, Primble!

38's today.
Tremendous twin 38s, JSCHENK!

Terrific SAK's Gt!

I'm going with a H. Dorwal and a Wenger Esquire today.

4ITZ03Sl.jpg

Have a good one all!

Ken K.
Thanks, Ken. :) Exquisite Esquire! Being relatively inexperienced with pocket knives, I sometimes wish they ALL had the pattern name stamped on the blade, ala your Dorwal!

...
Your belt or suspenders must be working overtime keeping that load of steel in place! ;)

I’ll have to double-check the canoe when I get home. It’s possible that it’s a two-spring knife and the F&F is just so good on this particular example that I mistook it as a single-spring when looking at it closed. It sure does ride slim, though, and there’s definitely no central liner. They say that RRs are an excellent way to try out a different pattern, but frankly it might be difficult to find another canoe that ticks as many boxes for me as this one did right off the bat.

Now if I can get a super nice DBJ to replace the “meh” one I got on my first attempt, I will be an RR True Believer. That one would look fantastic with the fat acorn trapper getting a bit of a spring-stretch at home on the bench. :D
...
Today’s “thank goodness the weekend’s nearly here” pair. The yeller EE is a Queen #55 that appears to have been a display or sample knife. It’s wicked sharp and vanishes in the pocket (even a shirt pocket). Catch the light right and the handles positively glow. :)

Everyone thinks carrying a few slipjoints is an incredible burden, but it's a HUGE knife that weighs as much as 4 ounces. A dozen knives will add less than 3 pounds - I put on more weight than that on a bad weekend! ;)
I followed the Porch advice of trying out patterns via Rough Rider, but I never got beyond the "gateway drug" to the more expensive folders. The Rough Riders have been everything I can ask for in a knife!
That yellow Queen pen is a cheerful charmer!

...
It feels like it's been ages since I have carried the presidential, so I threw it along with my opinel 9 in the pocket today.
wxTGXup.jpg
I really admired the way you stuck with your 77 and 71, Erik, but it sure is good to see your Presidential again!

...
It's really a much nicer looking piece than one would guess from that picture. In better light, the wood is quite deep and mellow. Here's a shot of the same knife, taken one sunny autumn afternoon.

Yowza! That's a unique and appealing knife!

The Hammer

NYKCHammer21_zpsabe57eed2_zpsced5a701.jpg
That's a heck of a handsome, historic, heart-stopping Hammer, Mark! And congrats on your transformation to "orange"; this is the first time I noticed, so apologies for not being more observant! I like that "Jackson Knife Works" line, too; will your work be sporting a new tang stamp soon?

...
GT made me do it:eek:

I've heard the saying, "I've got bigger fish to fry." But I can't imagine that you've got much bigger fish than that whopper of a sunfish, Gev! Your "blaming" me reminded me of some comedian in the 60s or 70s who had as a signature line, "The Devil made me do it!" (Flip Wilson in drag??) I'm worried about the association!:rolleyes:;)

...
I've been trying to carry a few different ones this week GT :) Weather-wise, I've given up trying to guess what is around the corner! That's a great selection you've had with you this week, I particularly like the '85
... (I merged a couple of Jack's posts here - GT)
Carrying my 66 today :) Have a great weekend everyone

Thanks, Jack. :) Your 66 is verdant and virtuous, yet voluptuous!!:p

Thanks Jack, cold but clear and bright. Rory discovered ice in Finlay's water bowl this morning. That was a good hours fun :)

Fantastic photo, Paul! I used to really enjoy the fresh perspective on the world my daughter gave me when she was a little lass.

...
I am totin' some stag this morning, a Northfield 76 Jack. Have a wonderful weekend!:D

Delicious-looking stag, Ron!

These two. Now that Spring is almost here I think I should add some color to my life. Have a good weekend everyone.

That humpback stockman is grand!

Tremendous triple play, Brett! How do you like that toothpick? Is that a single blade, or 2-bladed?

...
An Ancient TC Barlow and a Simmons Hardware penknife (as well as the Presidential) today.

Very distinguished threesome, Dean! That penknife with the tip bolsters is superlative!

I've decided to make a slight change in my schedule for the knives I carry. I'll continue to follow my carefully constructed weekly schedule Monday through Friday, but I've designated Saturday and Sunday to be "Can't Wait Weekend" during which I can carry whatever knives I want, or, as the name suggests, knives I like so much I have a hard time waiting for them to come up every 12 weeks or so! This weekend, among the knives I've selected are these:
a Case sowbelly stockman in CV and chestnut jigged bone
TXjX5EFl.jpg

an Uncle Henry medium stockman
YJPiIhMl.jpg

a stag Peanut
mESUdrgl.jpg

a ring-opener

a Buck stag canoe

and an Imperial 2-bladed toothpick

Some fine carries and photos the past few days. I'm wrapped up in blankets in front of the TV recuperating from a nasty flu, but I've got full pockets :)
