What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Helping move me box things up in preparation for a move. At first I wasn't sold on the Muley, but after a few days carving with it I'm converted.

Steel clad in African Blackwood and Ebony for me today...

Another desirable duo, Paul!

...
Today I was totin' this 85. To be honest when I first got this knife I did not really like the coloring on the handles, but now I really love them. :D

What’s not to love?? Fantastic knife, Ron!

Gary - Thank you, love these 2 choices. The Stag on that Colt is very appealing.
...
Thanks, Ron, but I forgot a word when I was posting! :( The Colt sowbelly is actually black stag BONE, rather than stag.

Beautiful knife, GT!
...
Thanks, Dean. :)

…It has been a particularly outstanding year for spring fishing this year and I have been busy devoting most all of my spare time to it. Lots and lots of fish caught and some good uns too.
…
Best regards,

Mr. P.
Every now and then I might actually know what I’m talking about!
Primble, I’ve heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” Hope you’re not developing gills and fins, sir!

…I was fooling around with my Boker Pen Knife today while bored.

osmluMk.jpg
…I had the ol' Solingen Edge Mark stockman in my pocket today.

Shawn and flatblackcapo, your German knives are really supreme!

…
All bareheads today -- the Davis XTRA Barlow came out on its maiden pocket voyage with my trusty Wingen and the ubiquitous 'yote in tow. My eyes keep falling in love with the covers on the Barlows.
…
I suspect that there’s quite a variation in age in that trio, but they sure look terrific together! (Did the email I sent ever arrive, TB?)

…
Glad you enjoyed GT. The spring runoff is happening and streams, rivers and lakes are rising !
Great line up you are carrying.... Especially that gorgeous 2014 Forum knife. :D
…
Thanks, Dan; Markesharp sure did a marvelous mod on it, didn’t he?

Thanks GT, me too, the weather changed again and it has barely stopped raining since I wolfed them down! :D Good to see more of this week's carry my friend
…
Carrying my mystery jack again today, along with this Harrison Fisher Crown Penknife. Have a great day everyone
…
Thanks, Jack! Another fine pair; that mystery jack is a real stunner!

…
I am starting of on this Wednesday with a TC in my pocket, Wooden handles of course!:D

Very classy, Ron!

Plain and simple today

Palin, simple, and superb, Paul!

Today the Lamb Foot is calling to me.

Wow! That’s a prestigious knife, FBC!

Unbelievable Ulster Barlow, Atiger!

Thanks GT! Just across town, simplifying and consolidating (everything but knives ;) ). I feel good about the new place but moving is no fun.

Really cool forum knife, congrats on that one

My well loved TC is riding along today.

Thanks, Tom. I always enjoy your pairs with the scout knives, but this TC is a Totally Charming change of pace!

…For Wooden Wednesday, I carried a favorite - an ebony Talon.

What a special spearpoint, Dean!

I happened to start and end with a pair of your dark woods, Paul; I still think they’re a desirable duo a day later! Same knives, but a different, even more attractive, photo! Wait a minute, that's a different Lick Creek, isn't it? Nice!

I don’t think I’ve shown this one yet from this week’s carry: a Sheffield SAK

Nice selection of bearheads there, TS. I'm thinking along those lines today, as well.

Sweet selection, hope you brought lots of honey for those bears. ;) :D Did you get a second Osage 'yote, or is the lighting hiding that nice patina I thought I noticed on yours?

I had to give that sweet buffalo horn #69 a second go-around. Queen's return to a more traditional Barlow format has been rather underrepresented in my collection -- if you don't count the stag skate key knives I obtained in triplicate in a temporary state of confusion and irresponsibility (3 of 50!). I've got one that's a safe queen (get it? get it?) and a 1095 workhorse in Delrin, but only the stag limited issues can rival yours. Thanks for sharing that beauty!

Thanks Lambertiana, I scored it off the exchange some time back. It has been a favorite ever since.
Today the Lamb Foot is calling to me.

You must be quicker on the trigger than I am, good sir. Whenever I see a highly-desired knife posted on the Exchange, I tend to see a "$OLD" immediately next to it, no matter how recently it was posted. :grumpy: Great lambsfoot! I knew Jack would express his admiration. It's a sickness for him, like 'yotes are for me. :o

Old Ulster Barlow today. I love the beautiful materials and bolster markings of these old knives and always find myself thinking "What's your story?" or "Where all have you been in your lifetime?". To me, that's part of the enjoyment of old pocketknives.

Each time I see that knife I feel my envy grow more and more pointed. That's easily the finest Ulster I've seen, full stop. The stories these knives can tell must be amazing. You gave a near-perfect distillation of the reason I went with my big XTRA this morning, knowing that the knife deserved to be out and about and living like it has for the last 90 years. Plus it's so ripe for CF & CE it was a no-brainer. I'm green to the gills over you being able to do that with that fantastic sawcut bone, too. :)

I am carrying a roug rider yellow stockman as well as a buck 301

Glad to have you here on the porch, Earl. There's a very famous Barlow touring Europe that shares your name! You can read about it here. I have a soft spot for that big ol' 301. I'm looking for one in that sweet cherry Buck used for the Chuck signature series so I can finally fill the big stockman gap Wooden Wednesday often confounds me with.

Thanks GT! Just across town, simplifying and consolidating (everything but knives ;) ). I feel good about the new place but moving is no fun.

My well loved TC is riding along today.

Moving always sucks. May you have a minimum of hassle and nothing missing on the other end. :)

I think that particular Barkie has become my favorite of yours. Normally I'm not a huge fan of yellow but that sweet mustard bone(?) is highly appealing on that knife.

Keeping it traditional...

Nice video, loving that Bowie. I nearly cheered when you pulled out the 'yote, CM, but I was a little disappointed you couldn't get such a smooth, pinchable action open one-handed. The legend lost a little luster for me this day... :o :D

Very nice looking Barlows. What is the one in the middle?
...
For Wooden Wednesday, I carried a favorite - an ebony Talon.

My very, very first Barlow, an Anton Wingen Jr. in stainless. Pull's perfect, half stops with authority, bone is unfinished but exquisite, it ticks a lot of my boxes for any knife and all of 'em for a Barlow. That would have been my "knife of 2015" would I have replied in that thread when active (being so short on actual knife photos from 2015, I quietly lurked instead).

Your photo sure does make me want to get my hands on an example of that pattern. Great variation and grain on that ebony, Dean!

I suspect that there’s quite a variation in age in that trio, but they sure look terrific together! (Did the email I sent ever arrive, TB?)

It is likely sitting in an inbox unchecked, GT, my apologies. I realized when I looked at my long-unreviewed settings here that I'd used an account I've since lost access to. I just need to chase down a password reset, but there's a goofball verification mechanism that's going to require some work. I'll redouble my efforts tomorrow as I was stymied today at work with some tight deadlines and no notice. I need to reply to get your shipping address anyway. :D

The XTRA Barlow is from some time in the 1920s, according to my research. The Wingen is from ????? - if pressed I'd put it in the 1980s or thereabouts. The 'yote is from a coupla months ago. :D Just a ~90 year span of time is all.

Wooden Wednesday was cobbled together a little hastily this morning. I think I did OK with the No. 6 and the petrified wood Anza joining my 'yote.

No, that's the same coyote. I posted an older, pre-patina picture. :)

Too true Tom, glad you're managing  That's a lovely looking pair today

I haven't carried this walnut TC in a while so I figured I'd show it some love.

Stay tuned tomorrow for a Davison that traveled a long way to get to me......

Great-looking TC Jake  ANOTHER Davison?! Look forward to seeing it my friend :)

Thanks GT :) I came across one of those "Sheffield" knives in the flea-market the other week, in a large box of airport confiscations.

Interesting Anza TB

Thought so. I was fixin' to get angry with the universe for letting you have two Osages with such fantastic grain patterns on them. :o

:D

I haven't carried my Boy's Knife for a while (a gift, when they first came out from Dan SHS)

Hanging onto my Mystery Jack too! ;)

One I haven't carried in a while; "black walnut bone". This from GEC's first attempt at sawcut bone in 2008.

Paul

Nice! Is that blade modified spear? I like it!

No no, its just the standard long pull spear from the early 25s. It must just be the angle and the lighting of the picture. Here's a more direct shot:

I love the constant variations that have been made to this pattern over the years and this spear blade is a fine example (I'm sure I've spoken of this before so if you've already heard it feel free to scroll on by :) ).

The early version on the left, had the tooling from the long pull stamp set quite far back so that it made opening the bear traps very difficult. In later years, the long pull is moved further from the ricasso to facilitate easier action. The pull itself is exactly the same length, just set further from the spine (which accounts for deeper swedges on the later ones) but clearly used the same tool to stamp it out. I love this pattern, and thanks for giving me an excuse to talk about it.

Ah, I see now! The blade looked like it had steep clip point. :o

I am in fact carrying the #25 today (older photo)

spent some time restoring this heritage clip point this week, a recent acquisition from the exchange.. The ebony was dried out and receding from the liners. all the shiny parts were scuffed and the edge was dull even tho it came "mirror polished" from a guided system. Mineral oil relaxed the wood, buffing wheel restored the shine, and dmt stones put a hair whittling edge back on it. So happy with the results I figured it's the perfect birthday carry 😉

AL, I really like that old sawcut. It looks real good with the subtle cuts going in different directions.

New Davison made the trip from Norway to join my collection. #1308, 3-3/4" closed, very hefty! The wharncliffe blade is super stout yet has a nice thin tip. The scales are black paper micarta, CPM154 steel.

Thanks Tore, it's a very welcome addition!

Gorgeous TCs Tom and Jake.

For Wooden Wednesday, I carried a favorite - an ebony Talon.

Thanks Dean, nice Talon!

Thanks TB, much appreciated. The Bark River was originally listed as green and gold camel bone, I don't see the green but it is aging nicely. The handle on the file knife is petrified wood? It is gorgeous

Thanks Jack! Very classy pairing today sir. Maybe the mystery knife deserves a name other than "mystery knife"? :)
