What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

My very, very first Barlow, an Anton Wingen Jr. in stainless. Pull's perfect, half stops with authority, bone is unfinished but exquisite, it ticks a lot of my boxes for any knife and all of 'em for a Barlow. That would have been my "knife of 2015" would I have replied in that thread when active (being so short on actual knife photos from 2015, I quietly lurked instead).

Your photo sure does make me want to get my hands on an example of that pattern. Great variation and grain on that ebony, Dean!

Thanks, TsarBomba.

Personal Barlow (or any knife for that matter) stories are always good to read. My very first Barlow was a Schrade; one of those with the scrolled bolsters.

I carried my Farmer's Jack on the hike today (they seem to be popular lately). This one is a user.

Thanks Gary (GT) Jack and Macchina in regards to yesterdays carry:thumbup:

This KA-BAR-LO and Lick Creek for me today...

Took my 42 on bike ride today, had lunch near this awesome bridge. Note the horse clods in the second picture, the Amish use this section of trail extensively as car-less highway.

These days it seems like I don't even get home on the same calendar day as I left. :grumpy:

I haven't carried my Boy's Knife for a while (a gift, when they first came out from Dan SHS)
Hanging onto my Mystery Jack too! ;)

That stag is really marvelous, it's better every time I see it.

Amazing red bone on that Russlock!

spent some time restoring this heritage clip point this week, a recent acquisition from the exchange.. The ebony was dried out and receding from the liners. all the shiny parts were scuffed and the edge was dull even tho it came "mirror polished" from a guided system. Mineral oil relaxed the wood, buffing wheel restored the shine, and dmt stones put a hair whittling edge back on it. So happy with the results I figured it's the perfect birthday carry 😉

Fine work on that jack, it looks good as new. Happy belated birthday!

Thanks TB, much appreciated. The Bark River was originally listed as green and gold camel bone, I don't see the green but it is aging nicely. The handle on the file knife is petrified wood? It is gorgeous

It is, I often wonder just how old the wood is, what it might have seen in its day. It feels real nice in the hand, too. :)

I really do like those Schrades, though I don't carry any of mine often enough. 1 took one out for a theme week a couple months ago, they're nice beefy knives. Long overdue for a couple snapshots.

Love the Farmer's jack!

Really nice photo of a great canoe, PiB!

Fantastic Barlow with some awesome stag! Is that a Queen build?

Stuff like this is why I miss living someplace with culture and history. :o

Thirsty Thursday's totes -- the baby doc is a new arrival on its maiden ride. It did some fairly heavy worry stone work today while Mac slacked, I was surprised to learn that I might prefer it to the full-size doctor pattern. I didn't want to overdo it with photos of the 'yote this week but the little bugger was not having any of it and photobombed the whole works. I think it was jealous that I'd found another small knife pattern to CF & CE. :D

Grand shot Dean! Looks like it's scaling that tree just like some forest insect:eek:

Thanks, Will

That's a looker Paul, and I enjoyed your 25 talk

Looks great Jake, congratulations

Thanks Jack! Very classy pairing today sir. Maybe the mystery knife deserves a name other than "mystery knife"? :)

Thanks a lot Tom :) LOL! You're right! :D

Cool pics Doc

Thank you TB, I was going to leave my Abbeydale Jack at home today, but you've twisted my arm ;) :D Hope works settles down soon. Love the Baby Doc

Slipped this 'un in my pocket today too :) Have a good Friday everyone, and a great weekend

It is likely sitting in an inbox unchecked, GT, my apologies. I realized when I looked at my long-unreviewed settings here that I'd used an account I've since lost access to. I just need to chase down a password reset, but there's a goofball verification mechanism that's going to require some work. I'll redouble my efforts tomorrow as I was stymied today at work with some tight deadlines and no notice. I need to reply to get your shipping address anyway. :D

The XTRA Barlow is from some time in the 1920s, according to my research. The Wingen is from ????? - if pressed I'd put it in the 1980s or thereabouts. The 'yote is from a coupla months ago. :D Just a ~90 year span of time is all.

Wooden Wednesday was cobbled together a little hastily this morning. I think I did OK with the No. 6 and the petrified wood Anza joining my 'yote.

Hope you can get the email challenge solved (or you can send email from an active account to tals at calvindot edu). Thanks for the age estimates on those knives you recently posted. Wonderful wood!

…
Thanks GT :) I came across one of those "Sheffield" knives in the flea-market the other week, in a large box of airport confiscations.

Hanging onto my Mystery Jack too! ;)

When my wife bought me a set of 5 or 6 Sheffield knives/multitools many years ago, I had no idea of the historical import of that name. The two knives you posted are far more than satisfactory, Jack; that pair SHOULD be all that any of us really NEED! :D:thumbup:

One I haven't carried in a while; "black walnut bone". This from GEC's first attempt at sawcut bone in 2008.

Paul
Ah, I see now! The blade looked like it had steep clip point. :o

I am in fact carrying the #25 today (older photo)

Paul and A.L., those are a couple of very distinguished WLSTs!

Happy birthday, jrawk; your restored knife looks awesome, and that Esquire is the epitome of class!

…New Davison made the trip from Norway to join my collection. #1308, 3-3/4" closed, very hefty! The wharncliffe blade is super stout yet has a nice thin tip. The scales are black paper micarta, CPM154 steel.

Thanks Tore, it's a very welcome addition!

Congrats on that outstanding Davison, Jake!:thumbup: Really like that blade combination.

…Thanks GT (and nicely done ;) ). Such A Knice Sheffield, very cool

Good one, Tom! :D And congrats on your Blues win; probably a relief to have a game that wasn’t a nail biter, eh?

Cool photo of a fine Farmer’s Jack, Dean. That tree bark looks familiar; do you remember if it was some kind of oak tree?

Coming home from work on a different day than you started is WAY less than ideal! :( Congrats on the exemplary doctor’s knife ; who makes that? Pocket knife photobombing is a comical concept! :D

Illustrious pair, Jack! So you’ve decided to name the “mystery jack” after yourself, have you? ;) I understand the “Jack” part, but what’s the story behind the “Abbeydale”?

Some knives I carry EVERY day, in addition to my weekly rotation:
Chestnut bone CV Case Sodbuster Jr

LOL! :D Well, I'm not sure it'll stick, but Abbeydale is the area of Sheffield where I bought the knife ;) :D

Laguoile, one of my real favourite patterns.

A lovely lag, the covers are really nice. I'd make it an every-week Wooden Wednesday carry. :)

The "Abbeydale Jack" is such a fantastic name and it works on multiple levels.

Thanks, GT. If I can't find my way into my old account at some point today I will email you directly from my usual one this weekend. I'm looking to work that Anza into my carries more often. Maybe I'll coin a new theme: Mesozoic Mondays?

In the spirit (if not the letter) of Old Friends Friday, I'm giving my #032 Texas jack from 1981 its first ride along with the 'yote and the Camillus jumbo trapper which I snagged at the last second. I nearly brought the baby doc again today but the "small lineup" wasn't doing it for me.

Just realized I had completely skipped over this question when answering. The baby doc is a Case Brothers (the kind that comes in the navy blue tin), F&F is outstanding and the secondary bevel doesn't have any of the inconsistencies that my 6.5 bonestag full-size doc has. The 'yotes might have some new competition for the watch pocket.

Thanks TB! :) And thanks for remembering Old Friends Friday, that's a great line-up :)

Well, it's certainly better than Fish Knife Friday, that's for sure. :D
