What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Mr. Russ today.

I had a Russlocks just like that for 10 years until I gave it to a Son-in-law. One of the finest work knives that you can buy IMO.

Mutilated Opinel #6 I made yesterday.
Dropped the blade to spear and shaped the handle, then burned it.
Really the thing that bothered me most in Opinels is the end of the handle.

I kinda like the kick at the end of the standard Opi handles. Though it's a bit larger, I think the Opi #8 garden knife might tick some of your boxes. It would probably look good with a worked handle, too.

I think I might like this handle shape better than the O.G. Opi for lighter, more precise duty. Inox, a spear recalled by your own mod (great work BTW), and ridiculously light. Got a torch? :D

Yes sir it's number 4! My first GEC and won't be my last I see new addiction

Well you struck gold with that stag, though a good many of the natural stag 'yotes look awfully good ('cludin' my own :D). I send my condolences to your wallet; the #18 was my first GEC as well (specifically, the Osage orange from WW) and it touched off a ridiculous obsession - 4 'yotes, including the #5, and I should be securing a Beagle in oil sucker rod wood tomorrow morning.

Congrats on the new Puma, TB! Pretty serious Wooden Wednesday trio!! (You have a Coyote for almost every occasion, I think. ;))

The Osage may soon be getting spelled for a couple WWs by an energetic little beagle, but my 'yotes have enough variety for lots of different themes. :D

I have been totin' this 85 today. :D

Stunning deep green bone on that teardrop. I occasionally send out feelers for GECs with that particular color, but it seems a lot of the time the price is just bananas. Supply/demand, it's a bear.

I went from 0 Russlocks to 3 rather quickly. Found a nice green smooth bone Russ, then a "user" in the rough black synthetic came to me at a very low price two days before I found a NIB amber jigged Russ to pair with my stockmen for a similarly-compelling savings. The only thing that holds me back from carrying one more often is that the blade profile is often duplicated (or reasonably approximated) by blades on other regular carries, so a single-blade like that becomes a little redundant. But it just looks/works/flips so cool that sometimes you slip it into a pocket just because. :)

Thanks, Harry! They really are a treat to operate, carry nicely in the watch/change pocket.

Having only seen them in catalogues to begin with I used to think they were much bigger knives than they are. While they won't chase a Barlow (or a 'yote) out of my watch pocket they can definitely ride along in the RFP.

Today's riders on the storm(s):

The Klaas kept rolling slightly forward and reflecting my black shirt, so everything just comes out muddled. :grumpy:

Happy Friday, everyone!

This isn't me, this is tmd_87. I decided to make a version of his carry that could be posted in this thread but I guess he didn't get his original post updated quickly enough. :D

Original photo and post here. :)

That's a wonderful mod, A.L.!! The spearpoint blade is incredible! Did you change the blade shape by hand, or do you have power tools that helped reshape it?
- GT

Thanks! I used dremel. Without trying to sound like person who loves self too much, I kind of have stable hand because I've done all sorts of drawing and shaping in my life. :)

I used kiridashi to remove excess stock from the handle and then dremeled that too. I used my zippo for burning.

Above is similiar "stock removal" job for my bianco.

Hope Paige is back to full wellness real soon, Kris

+1

Unfortunately, I had to say goodbye to someone special today. I felt that my new Gabon Ebony Washington Jack was suitable for the somber occasion.

Sorry for your loss

Auspicious pair, Jack ("Unity and Abbeydale" sounds very prestigious, too ;))!

...

Very nice, Jack! Was that slender horn handle featured in your recent kitchen table thread?

...

As always, I'm carrying a Vic Electrician and a Case chestnut bone CV Sodbuster Jr.

Thanks GT :D  Yes, my Slim Jack was on the table, I need to take more pics :o Vic Electrician and a Sodbuster Jnr is a great combination I think

I share your frustation my friend! :grumpy: :D  A very handsome threesome, the Barlow is beautiful

You may want to swap that image out with this one before any of the mods sit up and take notice. ;) :D

Nice Photoshop skills, and good advice

I hope your mates Op went ok Jack?

With me today. Ok, I know it's a wharncliffe on a barlow which just isn't right and it's minor blade is a clip point which is a combination quite removed from traditional patterns but I like it. It just works. Looks wrong but works. I'll tell you what too, the hangman bone is really bright. I've an SAK along as well because the duo went well yesterday. :)

Thanks a lot mate. It was supposed to be a simple operation, carried out under local anaesthetic this morning, and I had agreed to pick him up from the hospital, since they wouldn't discharge him on his own. Unfortunately, they've now decided to do the op under general anaesthetic, and he probably won't be discharged until much later tonight. In the meantime, I'm on standby.
