What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

One of my favorite threads, I enjoy the daily carries everyone

My Menefee in antique Westinghouse Micarta today.

Paul - I don't know how I missed this wonderful Menefee yesterday! Man this beauty has flipped all of my switches! Congratulations my friend on an outstanding custom knife!

These two for me today :)

Jack - Always enjoy that Ebony Wright! :) The Ulster looks to be in excellent condition and a versatile carry for sure!

Thanks my friend, the stainless Ulster Scout was a gift from the venerable Paul H :)

Paul
That Menefee is off the hook!:eek:

Jack
I am loving your carries as usual and really am struck by the sheath of the scout!

dispatch
Both of your knives make me sigh!

RaChell
Lovely Forum knife and I hear ya regarding the envy...lol

Harry
I too have never seen a sharpener the likes of that one. Great pruner.

Ron
Cranberry perfection. Oh...what a fine piece

MidTN
I would be in Hog Heaven

Thanks GT! Hold on, spring will come [emoji4] And I once heard a wise man say that cold weather build character [emoji56]

Mark
Touche'! :D:D

I forgot yesterday was your mathematical holiday! You are so fortunate to have a knife that is appropriate to cut your 'Pi.' :D

Thanks, Gary! The Cadet II is on my list, also.

Today's carry...

Thanks, Dean; I feel very fortunate - I'm basically "living the dream"! :D
I'm not by nature a single-blade guy, but the Alox Solo certainly is appealing!

...
While I had the Wards in the workshop I touched it up on the old Dazey Sharpener . There are better sharpeners in the world but this does a good enough job for what I use the Wards for . Picked the old Dazey up in an antique shop sometime a long time ago. Made by the same people who made the Dazey Butter Churns .
...
Harry
That's a cool old sharpener, Harry!! I don't think I've ever seen a small hand-crank one like that. When I was a kid, we had a big (at least 2' diameter in my memory ) pedal-driven grindstone hanging around the farm, although we always used an electric grinder by that time. Can you find stones for yours if you need them?

GT you always have something nice to say to everybody, thank you. Some good knives yourself, how do you like the MAM? I've been curious about those.
...
Yes, MAM! I'm not sure I've ever seen one without rectangular, blocky handles. I like it.
...
Thanks for the kind comment, Paul. :)
Paul & Greg, one of my knife hobby "things" is inexpensive working-class folders from around the world (mostly Europe, so far), and the Portuguese MAMs fit into that niche. To me, the MAMs are very similar to Opinels: simple, low-cost, incredible cutting tools. The one I posted is a 4" liner lock that reminds me a lot of a big toothpick pattern in terms of handle shape and clippish blade. I also have a somewhat smaller MAM friction folder with a big sheepsfoot blade (and a handle that's quite rectangular and blocky :o).

... Just wish I could handle mine! :mad:Tracking informs me of insane behaviour  it took just 3 days from USA to Köln Germany, next day it arrives here in Finland in Helsinki, yippee! Uh uh, after 26 hours the imbeciles put it on a flight to Malmö southern Sweden! Then back to Germany Köln! Then to Stockholm Sweden, aha! only a short flight away! No, it's sent back to southern Sweden Malmö again! Now it's in Madrid Spain!! What??? Probably be in Brasil next:D:eek::eek::grumpy:
Thanks:D But I don't think so, it's in Chicago now...insane:eek:
"Insane" seems too mild a word if this is all true, Will!! :( It seems like some raving-mad too-early postal April Fool's prank! I hope it gets on a direct path to you ASAP.

Thank you Gary, I always admire how you plan your weeks carry:thumbup:
...
Paul, your Menefee is a drop-dead gorgeous work knife!
Thanks for the compliment; I have to plan my carry if I'm going to meet my goal that every knife I have gets carried periodically. Without planning, I think I'd end up carrying a quite small set of favorites most of the time, and not recognize the charms that my other knives have.

...
Double thanks Gary! That's a great looking Sowbelly!
Thanks, Ron. I have at least one Sowbelly that's even nicer , but I like 'em all, and they all get their chance to be carried.

...
have a Crosman scout today...an unusual scout with a locking main blade, and small enough to fit the change pocket.
I've never heard of Crosman before, but that looks like a superb little scout, Steve! Looks to be in fantastic shape, too.

Beguiling brace of Barlows, Dee!

I haven't carried the 15 in a bit.

Classy and distinguished, FBC!

Added this Rough Rider in my left pocket
Long match lighter pull. Half stops. Prop shield...
What model number is that one, Joe? I sure like the looks of it!!:thumbup: Is it single-spring, or is it a whittler pattern? How big is it? I'm hoping to order a bunch of Rough Riders this weekend, and I'd like to add one like yours to my list!!! ;)

...
Thanks GT, I had a small sausage and mushroom pie with gravy :) Someone uglied-up the blade on that one with a grinder, but it still cuts well
...
These two for me today :)

Sounds like tasty pie, Jack! I tend to think fruit when I hear "pie", but I actually like meat/vegetable pies better. When I was a college student, I was one of the few fans of shepherd's pie at the dining hall, and I try to get a pasty at least once each summer when we vacation in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where Cornish miners apparently established that culinary tradition.
Looks like you have a productive pair today! I always enjoy glimpses of your Ulster BSA knife.

Such vibrant bone on that one, Ron!

That Forum congress jack is VERY elegant, r8shell; you don't need to envy anyone's knife!

I just cannot keep this one out of the pocket.

Sensuous whittler, MidTN!!

My watch pocket knife of the week is this Rough Rider dogleg lockback mini canoe:

(It's sharing the watch pocket with this Rough Rider small stockman that I carry every week (scrimshaw by r8shell - thanks!):)

White handled blades have been calling to me for a while now, stunning forum knife r8shell.

I just cannot keep this one out of the pocket.

Great patina MidTN.

Some ALOX and a custom today.

A pair of beauteous Barlows, Dee! Elder skill and modern mastery on display.

I haven't carried the 15 in a bit.

Gorgeous knife and very well photographed! You've really captured the grain in the ebony.

No doubt that one is a well loved treasure, Ron! The bone, in particular, is so well done.

- GT

Thanks, Gary. I wasn't sure when I ordered the Solo that I would like it, but it will grow on you (it's a Vic Soldier without the tools and how often do we use those?).

I had to modify my comment on Dee's Barlows (which I was composing when you posted). My original one was almost identical to yours - we need another "B" word that means two!

As always, your Sodbuster catches my eye.

Today's "tote."

Fabulous. If you and Buzzbait don't cut it out, I might have to track down a scout knife of my own. ;)

Greg...I have to give credit to Buzzbait as the one getting me to admire the scout knife. So much to learn also. I recommend starting with the Remington R4, still plentiful.:thumbup:

Delightful sodbuster jr GT!

Today I am toting a favorite workhorse. I think I will thin it out behind the edge pretty soon. It's a pretty good cutter, but not quite as good as schrade's similar 4" stockman pattern which is my favorite pattern and standard of measure.

The Peace of Wild Things
by Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Thanks everybody for the comments. She is coming along nicely and will get used plenty.

WTB GEC whittlers and stockmans

There used to be an old worker's cafe in Sheffield, which did pie to a couple of hundred places every day ;)

:D :D

And now you're showing a beautiful old scout, too. Y'all have pushed me past my scout envy threshold. ;)

A good antidote for #13 envy, for sure.

I just cannot keep this one out of the pocket.

It's beautiful. I'm glad it's in pocket and getting to see the world. Have any whittling planned with it? :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I've eyed those and the Camillus C4s a few times after Buzzbait showed his C4 and told a bit about it a while back. They look really nice.

After some late night browsing last night and then sleeping on it, I ended up picking up an older Camillus 99 that really spoke to me. Stay tuned.

WhittlinAway,

Yes I have been working on a cypress walking stick with it and a few other knives. Getting it slicked down.

 I hope you'll post a photo when it's complete.

Keeping with the whittler theme, I've got my 1973 Case 6383 in my pocket today:

I haven't yet tuned it up for whittling, but hope to do so soon and then put it to work.

You all have been knocking it out of the park lately. I can't keep up with all the great knives being shared. I've been carrying the same old boring GEC coyote for days, but I just got this one in and have had it in my pocket all day. I know next to nothing about it, but the price was right. It's a custom by G A Walker. I think it's an older knife. I don't usually go for pimped out knives with engraving and file work, but I have to admit, it's a nice knife. I googled the name, and got a lot of George Walker, but I'm not sure he's the same maker, that one does a lot with damascus.

Very nice everyone!

Thanks for the comment Paul and Gary.

I carried these two yesterday.

And these two today.

Have a good one!
