What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

We've been in Minnesota for close to a week now. This #15 Crown Lifter has been in my pocket all week, and has opened a lot of boxes. There's still more to do, but we're slowly getting settled.

Thanks Jack, it's good to be back. I have missed not being on the forum. My 78 year old mum had a fall early December so I didn't even think of BF for awhile as I've been caring for her.
The Jokers are great knives. It's what I had in my pocket when my mum had her fall and apart from my Vic Farmer I've not touched another knife. It's held it's edge well considering I've only stropped it once?
I bet you do recognize the churchyard. It's St Lawrence's in Eyam, in Derbyshire. The large cross in the background with the iron chainlink about it is the 8th Century High Anglican Cross. A cracking village where I stopped to have lunch

That pie looks like a very nice spot of lunch  And a thick slabbed knife like that Joker is just right for food prep, bet it's comfortable in the hand and a decent slicer too. Hope your Ma is on the mend now:thumbsup:

Regards, Will

Very sorry to hear about your mum Donn, I hope she is recovered now  The fellers in Whitby had told me Joker had stopped making that model a couple of years back, but I was able to pick up another at a shop in Pickering a month or so back :) I had thought of Eyam :D I was there last year, but hadn't been there for about 15 years before that. I can remember going to the hall there, with my mother and grandmother, on a Mother's Union trip when I was three! I think it was still a private residence then. It is indeed a cracking village, and that is a cracking pic my friend :)

Nicely done :)

Cheers Jack! Aye it's a lovely village surrounded by some great walking, but with it being winter it was pretty deserted. I'll visit again some other time as I didn't have time for a proper gander.
If it's the outdoor shop on Pickering high street your talking about thats where my Joker came from, but's a shame they've stopped making them if that true.

That pie was a VERY nice spot of lunch thanks Will! A pork pie from the Castlegate farm shop in the village of Stoney Middleton in Derbyshire. The Joker is a great knife but according to Jack there no longer being produced.

And thanks guys, my mum is much better now.

Yes indeed :) You could spend a few hours there on a summer Sunday  That's the one Donn :) I'm wondering if I was misinformed by the fellers at Hall & Coates in Whitby, or if Joker changed their minds. The Whitby lads told me Joker had stopped making that model, and showed me a catalogue, which certainly didn't include it, but that was 2-3 years ago now, and they still seem to be able to get hold of them in Pickering, where apparently they sell quite a few. My last visit was fleeting, but I have a couple of days booked in Pickering at Easter, so I will enquire further

I may beat you to that Jack. I've friends who live in West Heslerton on the A64 and Thornton-Le-Dale who I'll be visiting I think in March. If I pass through Pickering when I'll pop in myself and take a look.
Never been Hall & Coates, thanks for making me away of them. If I end up in Whitby over the summer I'll pop in there as well.

I love it when the shield is inlaid like this. It looks like the stag grew over shield. It reminds me of when old trees have grown over metal signs or barb wire fences.

That toothpick looks SUPER, @Travman !!:thumbsup: I'm an even bigger fan of the II-blade version. ;)

Four line Camillus Jack today

Fantastic knife, Steve; it makes my heart soar like an EAGLE!:cool::thumbsup:

Had these two with me today :) Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Excellent duo, Jack, as nicely paired as GOALPOSTS!:thumbsup::cool:
That pair is as welcome as a II-POINT CONVERSION in a close game, Jack! ;):thumbsup:

I realized I hadn't carried George lately, so he's supervising some fettling on an ole Kabar. Don't worry-No power tools will touch him. That's for fixing poor Kabar's broken blade tips. :)

I fixed the broken tip on the sheepfoot, and removed all the active rust. I was going to do more fettling, but after looking at it a while, I decided to call it finished. The rough pitted texture is kinda growing on me.

r8shell, it's like you went for a HAIL MARY with that Kabar and scored the winning TOUCHDOWN!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;) Love the "as-ground" ("as-found"?) finish on the blades!:cool::cool:

For Stagurday, I'm taking a break from my recent Remington rodeo (alas, there is no stag in my Bullet replica collection). Instead, I'm pocketing a couple of old, trusty companions: a Case 47 large stockman from 1940-1964 and a large trapper from 1965-1969. Luckily, I put on my pockety pants this morning.

Stellar stag samples, Stuart; both perfect Xs (on a X-point scale).

This Saturday morning just that Frontier Stockman!
...
deltaboy, your Frontier stockman must make you feel like every play is FIRST & GOAL FROM THE 2-YD LINE! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Those two give you quite a "pocket tool chest", HnS!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I like the ROMAN NUMERAL motif in your composition! ;):thumbsup:

Seeing your stag Lambsfoot is as exciting as watching a BLITZING DEFENSE!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Back to the Blood Red beauty.

Such an attractive TC deserved a TOUCHDOWN CELEBRATION, Dean!:cool:;)
Gary, Alox Soldiers were manufactured 1962 through 2007. Here's a wiki: http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Soldier+1961
Thanks for the link, Dean. :) All this Soldier discussion makes me feel like a PATRIOT!;)

LOL! :D Thanks my friend :) Hope you're keeping warm, those are the knives of yours I enjoy seeing the most I think
Thanks, Jack. Those knives are, in a sense, SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS among all my knives! :)

that's very cool! I hope I can remember that trick next time I'm doing 'rithmetic.

Wonderful glow to the horn, and the edge as well! :)
Thanks for the lambsfoot love, r8shell, but remember that photo was taken during PRE_GAME WARMUPS, as it were, and it no longer looks as pristine here in the THIRD QUARTER!! :)
I hope you can remember the little multiplication trick, too. :) But sometimes your performance changes when you get down in the RED ZONE and the pressure is on!

Congrats on your upcoming retirement Gary. That is a neat idea for a personalized SAK! I did actually get a knife related gift from my 2nd Shift Team. I was very pleased with it. I will post it when I can get some good photos. Here is what I have had in my pockets today. All three of these are gifts received this week from members here on the Porch! You will see the details in other threads. :)

Congrats on the wonderful retirement gifts, Ron!!:thumbsup::cool::cool: With those III knives, you're like a TRIPLE THREAT QB!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

These are in my pockets today . Northfield 55 and 85 .

Harry
Outstanding stag, Harry!!:thumbsup::cool: FWIW, I prefer the LXXXV in that duo! :)

I've been off the forums for almost a month and I think that this thread has moved on about 100 pages?
Been carrying my olive Joker for over a month now.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday

Welcome back to The Porch, donn!!:) I hope things are better with your mother now. A Joker like yours is not a bad knife to have if you must stay with just one for a month!:thumbsup: I can't figure out what the filling is in that pie, but the crust looks divine - just the treat for a SUPER BOWL SUNDAY.:cool::thumbsup:

Wouldn't really need any knife besides that one!:cool::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: MVP! MVP! MVP! :p

Today I'll carry this one, maybe tomorrow too.

That Barlow is more thrilling than a XCIII-YARD PUNT RETURN FOR A TD!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::cool:

I'll probably watch at least the first half of Super Bowl LII this evening. Here's the pre-game meal I made myself after I finished shoveling snow this afternoon. When I'm not carrying that rosewood lambsfoot, it has an honored place on the kitchen counter for food prep. (The photo is actually old, but I used the knife to make my salad today, and the salad was essentially identical to the one in the photo, but without chunks of ham.)

Thanks 5K. It's a pork pie. Arguably England's national dish. Apparently we eat about 30 million of them a week :D but I'd rather of had a bowl of that fine work of art you've rustled up there!
And thanks to 5K I've just realized it's the Superbowl today (tomorrow actually). It's being shown live over here in the UK on our BBC1 channel; 11.15pm to 03.50am . I've a couple of beers and I'm not in work tomorrow....so....go....Patriots...??
Hope you all enjoy the game

Had to work on the Lords day today. But this guy accompanied me. Really is a perfect blade combo and size. Too bad I’m not a one knife man. The wife is glad I’m not the same about women...

Still with me at home this evening. Wife getting over flu, I’m full into a sinus infection, 6 and 11 year old can’t get along the 10 month old still won’t sleep. Can I go back to work?

Great choice. I've been carrying the same for a couple of days now and its quickly becoming a favorite. The ebony is amazing and I like that it's somewhat easy to open with one hand. Came in handy yesterday opening a million packages for my daughters first birthday.

Haha, no sir and they were plentiful but I was pleasantly surprised to see this old case xx laying on a table. Picked it up at a very reasonable price. I didn't see the initials until I got home. I'll forgive U.D. for that since the bone is so nice.
