What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Today I decided to carry this gardeners or grafting knife I bought from a wine farm many years ago. My workplace arranged one of those outings there and I found this in the farm shop. They make wines from local berries there. It is a Victorinox, allthough sold under Felco brand. The blade has a kind of chisel grind, but the edge is ground so thin it does not really matter. Very good slicer, easy to carry. The handle is nylon with brass liners. The action is actually one of the better slip-joints I have with nice strong pull, smooth action and a good snap.

Stopped by the lake today to get a few pics of The Car On The Lake For 2018...

Harry
Desirable old equal-enders there, Harry!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
Mark me down as another fan of your Car on the Lake pics.;) How thick is the ice currently?

The Camillus in the middle with the tip bolsters and long pull nicks.

ETA, the one on top, the Wurlitzer? Schrade Walden with nickle silver scales and the one on the bottom is an Imperial Trick/Magic Knife

zbcMgk9.jpg
The entire trio is magical, Ted!:cool::thumbsup:

Today's choices harken back to yesterday's selections, but with slightly different characters with different purposes. A Camillus model 40 small half congress (1946-1950), an H.Boker & Co's Improved Cutlery slim jack (1920-1930), and another Qpinel No. 8 (mid-1970's). The Camillus, as opposed to the like-new large Queen congress of yesterday, shows what lots of use by prior owners can do - the main used to be a sheepfoot, the secondary a pen, The Boker shows that age does not necessarily diminish beauty, if cared for. The Opinel, a sibling to yesterday's No. 8, asked to get out of the box for Wooden Wednesday and some fresh air. These should get me through the day, even the calamitous Camillus, which is quite sharp.

Your three for the road are intriguing old soldiers, Stuart! That Boker is sweet!:thumbsup::cool:

Happy Wednesday, everyone. I haven't been able to contribute much here aside from some occasional reading. House shopping and work make for quite a busy mix...

I have these two with me today.

Good wood, Dylan, and best wishes for juggling work, house hunting, and life in general!:cool::cool:

Thanks, Dean. :)

They still go on some places - I don't think I've ever actually seen one - so maybe they are just set up for the local TV cameras (the final cheerful item before the weather)! :D Yeah, I love kids, but they can be tiring. I'm glad I had my own while I was young! :D Thank you! :D Very nice my friend, cool GS knife
Thanks for your replies, Jack! :)

Thanks GT! The blade totally rocks, I love it. I'm not too thrilled about the way the handle tweak turned out, though, so I think this one is going to get new covers.

I like your Pocket Pal! Soft spot in my heart for pen knives.
Thanks for the Pen Pal props, @traumkommode . :) In the past couple of years, I've developed a real preference for pen knives over jacks.

Just a bit more. :D

Cool knife, and a photo I can't even comprehend!:thumbsup::cool: How did you get the entire panorama to be in focus??:confused:

Intriguing pair, Jer!:thumbsup::cool: I've never seen one like the top knife.:confused::thumbsup:

I don’t usually carry two folders.... but this evening it just felt right. This well loved but well maintained Case came in yesterday and just feels right..... as large stockmans usually do.

Thanks 5K Qs 5K Qs :)
I honestly couldn’t tell you since I don’t take many like pics like that . I just kept hitting buttons until I liked what I saw lol .

43 or so years ago ( I am extremely young for my age:rolleyes:), I paid a chunk of my college expenses by working at Sears hardware. Back then, sonny, Craftsman tools were 100% made in the USofA, and you could choose from a nice selection of Craftsman knives made for Craftsman by Camillus, Schrade and Ulster. The mid sized wood scaled stockman came from my time there. The large ivory colored one is a more recent purchase. These were in my pocket yesterday, and are staying in my pocket today.

The swedging and pulls indicate the same factory made these fine companions.

Back to this one today.

Darn it, this is a good knife. It doesn't necessarily tug my heart strings in the same way a really nice/rare GEC or an old classic does, but i think I'd be hard pressed to find a significantly better working tool that also looks pretty good at the same time.
I really enjoy carrying it.

Waiting for the shuffler to show up to accompany it :)

Sounds like the kind of day after which you’d need a beer, Jack. Sorry you didn’t get the good pancakes you were hoping for, particularly since you only have ‘em once a year!

My wife and I have been introduced to a few British TV shows by my brother and sister-in-law in Bath, which we’re able to watch online here in the States. One of them (my wife’s favorite) is The Great British Bake Off, during which they often run often ads for Lyle’s Golden Syrup. It seems like stickiness is one of their main selling points! :D I actually saw it in a store here just the other day, and took a photo to send to my brother.

I think I‘ll stick with maple syrup for my pancakes. ;) Nice pair of ebony knives you’ve got there.

Lovely, warm bone on both of those knives, Harry!

I always enjoy your yearly photos of The Car on the Lake. A similar guess-when-the-car-will-fall-through-the-ice contest is used as a plot device in Neil Gaiman's novel American Gods. (Gaiman is British, but has lived in Wisconsin since the '90s.)

Just a bit more. :D

Definitely Barrett! :D I've not seen that show, but it is very popular here :) That syrup has been around since my granny's time, and it sure is sticky isn't it?! If you have it in the cupboard in hot weather, watch the tins don't leak, because the stuff really makes a mess! Great pic of Eleanor my friend, and a very nice Mudbug :)

Jack Black Jack Black Jack, you should have loaded that kid up with cane syrup and then sent him packing with his Dad.

LOL! Good idea my friend, it'd be like leaving a primed hand-grenade behind! :D Cool pics of your Canoe :)
