What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Shame about the gassing, Stuart, that is one of the most incredible, fiery celluloids I've seen.

These two (pile sides today), along with my "at all times" Cadet.

Just shows what a great material Ram's Horn can be, every bit Stag's peer. I'm still disappointed the Forum Knife failed to go for glory and turned away from Ram's Horn.....:rolleyes:

:eek::thumbsup: dang, I'm jealous, lol. I can never find any in this part of North Carolina. Sandy soil and what ain't farmed is swamps or pines.... So no shrooms fer a poor ol hillbilly:( love that blade btw
Those are hard conditions for shrooms. These were found in the "hills", usually a week or 2 behind the sandy soil areas. Thanks, I love that blade too!:thumbsup:

Nice mess of shrooms there. Where are you located that your still finding them in June?
Thanks!! These were from right after Mothers day, in Eastern Nebraska. Long gone now, I assume!!
Top ten knives right there, buddy!:thumbsup:

My Churchill starting to show some age.
I'm starting to show some age, too, but it looks much better on your Churchill than it does on me! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Very distinguished, and as someone pointed out in another thread, I'd have never guessed that knife was dyed bone rather than ebony. :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Appealing knife, @lambertiana!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

That's certainly an efficacious black/silver pair, Jack! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Double swayback sweetness, Ron!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I'm not exactly sure what it is that makes me not love the #14. I think the handle feels like a roll of dimes in my pocket and in my hand. It's narrow handle width, combined with it's two blade thickness, makes it feel almost round in the hand. I don't think I'm in love with the long, thin spear point either.
Thanks for articulating some of your concerns, John. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I like that Kutmaster a LOT, Jeff! :cool::thumbsup::cool: Is that a TL-29 mod?

Thanks, GT, and I'm with you on a pork pie pilgrimage. I have set my agents at work to find a source near me, but hope is fragile.

So far, the best I can come up with is a Cornish pasty. ;)

I reached into the EDC drawer and these are what came out. A Case 6207 (1940-1964) and a Parker-Frost that is, happily, appropriate for Wooden Wednesday.

Fine pair, Stuart, but that Parker-Frost lockback looks like it would be especially SMOOOTH in the pocket! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, Gary. I shed blood due to stupidity, not patina. :) Always a good idea to pay attention to what you are doing when a knife is in your hand.:eek:

Old and Ancient things.

Great pic of your sublime scratted Ancient, Dean! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: What's the "coin" farthest left, with the square hole in the middle? I have one of those that I found in a dilapidated chicken coop on a second farm my Dad bought when I was a kid, and I've always just called it a "Chinese coin" without having any clue as to what it really is! :rolleyes:

These today again, plus my RR soddy thats now my default edc, as a side note I'm starting to wonder if that case shield is on upside down
That old wood Case is a winner, MH (and I ALWAYS like a canoe)!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

In the mailbox just in time for Wooden Wednesday.

Sensational knife, Jamie; that's an intriguing blade! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup: Are you willing to share some basic info about it?

Ebony Churchill today.
Ol233O.jpg
Great choice, Paul . :D

40824037770_fe62d80ffb_h.jpg
An ebony Churchill downs most competitors! ;) Grand knives, Paul & FBC! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

As the handle is horn, it seems to shrink, so the pivot needs to be tightened. There is enough friction when fully open but when closed not enough. I need to carry this in a pocket sheath to avoid accidents.

Today in my pocket another Portuguese knife, this time with stag hands...

52goef.jpg
Couple of lovely European knives, @HFinn & @Pt-Luso !! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

The same sometimes with Opinels. The wood shrinks in dry weather and expands when humid. I have tried to remember to bathe Opinels in oil occasionally and this seems to help, dipping the knife in oil up to and over the pivot. Also just spraying or dripping oil in the pivot area and leaving to soak and dry helps. I don't know if this would be a good idea with horn.
I've had good results using beeswax melted into the pivot area of an Opinel (the brand I use is Sno-Seal). Might this be better for horn?

A pair of Tidioutes in Ebony today! :)

Thanks, GT, it (at 3 1/8") really is. Your cadre are pretty darn nice (that's pretty + darn nice), especially the Cadet and Kutmaster.

Thank you! A quality quintet of pocket cutlery you have there, Gary! :thumbsup: The coin with the square hole is called a Chon in South Korea where I got it. That one is from the Korean peninsula many, many years ago. They were used in China and surrounding nations for many hundreds of years and are ubiquitous in flea markets and antique stores in South Korea (and probably also in China). I have another one in better shape that predates the US of A.

Yes sir! Good eye. I bought it for two reasons - the lovely old cocobolo (I think) handles, and the fact that the blades were hopelessly ground on so I could reshape them with a clear conscience. It's quite the slicer now, but that secondary snaps like an alligator. I need to remember that every time I open it.

:thumbsup: on that Stockman! Yellow delrin is good delrin.

Love that knife!

I see the discarded exoskeleton of the cicada is still on the stump! Or have you been carrying it around for picture enhancement?:p
By the way, is some of that slag from a foundry?

I always admire your stag Bulldog Barlow with the curved handle, Senhor Pinto. :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Sounds like an enjoyable time, and you ended up with a good haul, Jeff! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

What's curbing your enthusiasm for your #14, John? Smaller than you like? I like that 2-blade ebony configuration! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

What a fantastic shot of a sensational knife! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Congrats on the Imperial paring knife, Hickory n steel Hickory n steel ! :thumbsup::cool::cool: Did you make the sheath for it? Do you wear it on your belt or put it in your pocket?

Who'd have guessed that soup and coffee could be such a delicious breakfast?!? ;):cool::thumbsup::cool:

That's an outstanding whittler and a champion Churchill, Steve!! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

What's the vehicle in these shots, Jeff? The color looks so familiar to me, but it's driving me nuts that I can't place what kind of tractor or mower it is! :eek::rolleyes:

Scintillating Shapleigh shadow, Stuart!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Cool old Remington, @deltaboy ! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I'm almost as smitten with your stag lambsfoot as you are, r8shell! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yeah, I think it's deadly. :eek:;)
Thanks for the kind remarks, Jack. :) The Case is not a new knife, but the arithmetic textbook is MUCH older.

This Rough Rider Christmas canoe just happens to be 4.5" closed ;):D

Thanks for the canoe comment, Dean. :) Your chestnut teardrop is beautiful :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:, and the patina is very interesting, but I'm not willing to shed blood to achieve that effect! :eek:;)

Remarkable BF stag jack, P&G!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ron the Relaxer has a nice ring to it! :cool:;) Thanks for the Workhorse info; I'll keep looking for a spear/sheep opposite end set-up. :thumbsup:

Congrats on getting back such a handsome TC, Paul! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Lots of pocket riches, FBC! ;):thumbsup::cool: That fixed blade reminds me of a pie server (probably because of @donn's pork pie essay :rolleyes:).

Winners in so many ways, Mike! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

You had me googling "pork pies near me" yesterday, David! :cool::thumbsup::rolleyes:

I guess you're a happy man, Ron!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

Nice vintage Case whittler, OH! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not a full-size trapper fan myself, but that sure is appealing yellow bone, Stuart! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Gleaming trio! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Exemplary, Gev!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Dylan, thanks for the encouragement and for sharing the top-notch pic! :):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yes I did make the sheath and I do wear it on my belt as here in California fixed blades must be fully unconcealed.
I actually made the sheath out of a Honer harmonica belt case that my dad had bought for my grandfather. He never used it and neither did I so I figured why let the leather go to waste.

Decided Monday evening to add a lanyard hole with tube made from a .22 casing.

Love that knife!

I see the discarded exoskeleton of the cicada is still on the stump! Or have you been carrying it around for picture enhancement?:p
By the way, is some of that slag from a foundry?
I surround the stump with things I find on my walks and other places :) I guess I have a Bower bird gene ;) The photo enhancement is the end game. The old rusty metal I found in the yard. The lady next door has a fantastic slag piece ! And some other lightning strike artifacts.
