What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

#1 has to be to let them have a pocket knife - but teach them how to use it ;)

A very fine knife, that ebony looks fantastic. I haven't gotten around to using mine quite as much as yours but I am sure it will see some use at some point.
I love the background. Easily one of my favorite websites to visit.

Today, I carried the 2015 BladeForums double-ended jack.

I always love seeing those CSC 2015 forum knives. Just a striking knife all around, I am looking forward to CSC's rebirth.
I love Calvin & Hobbes, I think I have just about every one of that artist's books. I don't think there are many newspaper cartoons that could/can compare to the genius of Bill Watterson.

Thank you very much Dylan, that's a superb photo :)

Thanks a bunch, Jack. The scenery befits the Lambsfoot nicely. As does the scenery in your pic today. Very fitting.

Absolutely put my Bushboot though a stellar workout opening and cutting down HEAVY cardboard today, a simple session on the strop returned the A2 convex edge to scary sharp:thumbsup:

The forum TC coasted by only having to slice a bun for a turkey sando;)

Fiddleback Forge makes some exceptional knives. I've been meaning to get one of their smaller blades and the Bushboot is on the short list of candidates. I also like the looks of their Monarch. Sounds like that Bushboot is a perfect little EDC blade though and of course, I am rather partial to the red color of yours. Is that their Ruby Burlap?

It was dark and I was running late for work this morning. I quickly grabbed my Case Yellow Handled Stockman (so I thought). At work I pulled out my knife and 'lo and behold', I had grabbed my Crisner Indianhead by mistake. Certainly a pleasant surprise for a Monday morning:

A very fine looking knife in some equally fine looking pictures. I especially enjoy the color composition. Very striking.

The sun is a bit bright on this warm day so I'm afraid you all must suffer an indoor picture. One of these days I will get around to making a lightbox...

I confess that I’ve always been on the fence with regard to T/C barlows. Granted that they are lovely knives, likely tomorrow’s classics, but the fact that there were so many fascinating, genuinely old and beautiful barlows made the apparently maddening chase to acquire a T/C seem like more frustration than it was worth.

This latest one, however, has an old look about it that I kinda like. I enjoy carrying a barlow but a number of my old favorites are rather fragile and risk further wear and tear if carried often. So I stumbled onto this Ancient Barlow at a fairly reasonable exorbitant price that provides me with a fully-functioning EDC while having the look of an old antique. While I can still carry an old favorite occasionally, I think I’ll like having an “old” barlow to fall back on without worrying if I’m going to hurt it with day-to-day use.

Thanks Dylan, it it their Ruby Red Burlap, I too prefer a smallish fixed blade as I don't hunt anymore. I have the luxury or good fortune of being able to use a small fixed blade daily. I owned a Karda before also and liked it quite a bit. I carry in a front pocket leather sheath with clip and it is a perfect carry option for me:thumbsup:

This was new in the mail yesterday, I cleaned out the gunk and the rust, sharpened it and am now carrying it. I like the grinds on these old imperials, they are thin as an opinel.

Some say opinels are the gold standard of cutting (and they are excellent), but if you take a look at many pre war knives that haven't been sharpened away the kind of "opinel thin" grind is common on many of them. Opinel is just the only one that has kept doing it right all this time. Why do makers have such thick blades on pocket knives most of the time? Thick blades aren't necessary, they make the knife not cut as well and it takes more effort to sharpen a thicker piece of steel and it won't get as sharp. Thin blades aren't as durable? Maybe, but this one is doing fine after all these years and it's not broken, bent or warped.
I've never had an Opinel, but I will say that blade thinness is on of many reasons I've quit carrying moderns. First traditional I got after many years on modern tacticals was a bear and sons sodbuster. I did reprofile the edge a bit thinner, but man did it ever cut so much better than the tacticool blades. The Challenge I recently picked up is nice and thin, slices SO well it's actually fun to cut stuff with it.lol I find myself just whittling on pine sticks with it just to watch the shaving float away on the breeze:cool:

I just discovered Calvin & Hobbes. Very relaxing end to my day to read a few pages. The artwork is excellent.

You caught that ebony grain perfectly, Dylan.

A small fixed blade, one that will go in a topcoat pocket is a real gem. Entirely versatile, you can accomplish all kind of tasks on a day hike, easily and safely (it won't close on you, yeah I know, you must use a slip joint 'properly' but fatigue or poor light can ambush you...) Those Fiddleback Forges are very enticing but getting hold of one is like joining a cult or Masonic Lodge :D:D

I like this Hess Knifeworks Small Caper, they make a very tidy knife at reasonable cost. Another small favourite is Bark River's Pro Scalpel but it's likely out of production.

Thank you, Stuart, Gev and Jack.

Today, I'm carrying my I*XL Barlow.

Beautiful old Barlow Dean

Thank you very much my friend, that's another nice one today :)

Handsome blade.

I'm becoming a big fan of Fightin' Rooster. Have a few of the Frank Busters..exceptional quality.

Great pic:thumbsup:

Every once in a while, even with all the gorgeous knives we see, one stands out. This one is that special.

Thanks a bunch guys. It is definitely one of the best made non-custom knife I own. Built like a mini tank with its double springs and locks up solid but still easy to pinch open. It’s my only fightin’ rooster and I hope to own more.

You’re saying the snap is deafening?

Lol, no it doesn’t snap like a gator. It just feel solid. Smaller knife with some heft to it.
