What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I love cutting firewood! Got a new Echo last year and it’s a great saw. But splitting? Ugh...that’s a chore unless you rent a hydraulic splitter.

I do to, I was doin’ 12 cords with a friend of mine a year. We would get the dead falls and standing timber from the fields when they need to expand or move to more fertile, virgin soil.

We had a Stihl and 2 Husqvarnas and a borrowed homemade splitter. We cut, split, trailered and stacked all summer and fall.

I didn’t burn a drop of fuel oil that year. The following year I filled the tank and did half the wood. Comin’ in 60, several shoulder surgeries and I’m not as keen on choppin’, splittin’, haulin’ and stackin’ like I used to, wish I could.

I’ve burned wood in stoves and fireplaces for 40+ years, I stayed at a friend’s place who had a gas fireplace with a remote control. I gotta admit, it was nice to just push a button and sit down. :) It’s good to be young (I assume you’re young) .

Them GEC Cigar patterns are sweet, I have a Stockman GEC 53 Cuban, a gift from a friend here.

Nope, I'm 60 as well...but that’s not as old as it used to be! I’m a cube rat in an office 5 days a week, so I love being able to get dirty on the weekends and work in the yard, or offer to cut up a neighbor’s downed tree in exchange for the wood. Haven’t had to buy any firewood for a couple of years now. Just keep an eye out for trees coming down in the neighborhood.
We don’t heat with wood, but I love my backyard fire pit when the weather gets cool.
Here’s a pic to appease the knife-gods for getting off trail. Didn’t carry it today, but it rode with me all last week.

I cut, load, split, and stack all by hand! I keep begging my wife to let me buy a splitter but she says I'm too young... I tell her this wood business is making me get old! LoL

My 2 grandsons are here today so my forum time is going to be
limited. I've got this trio with me.
I gave up on splitting, stacking and hauling cord word many years ago, which we burned in a wood stove and fireplace. Now there's 2 remotely controlled natural gas appliances, one log set and one gas stove, in their place. My back is much happier.
