What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Today is my wedding anniversary! :D

Congratulations! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Seems I am making a habit of getting behind on this thread. I will need to remedy that.

Thank you, Paul, for the kind compliments. The 2-tone horn on this knife is just terrific and you are absolutely right, it would make a nice artistic facsimile of its backdrop.

Harry, my friend, you have the very best Stag. Always a pleasure to see.

Thank you, Jack, for the compliment, I certainly have you to thank for this beautiful knife.

Very nice additions to your lineup, that Stag is just wonderful.

I would have to agree, GEC did a very fine job on these 44s. I regret not reserving one in Stag but I did land one in Ebony and one in Cocobolo and though I haven't quite taken to the pattern yet, I am a patient man and will keep them stowed away until I am ready to give them a solid go.

Wonderful Stag on yours, quite a stunner.

Very nice Wednesday duo, Ron. That Osage has aged so wonderfully and of course, that Lambsfoot is always awesome.

A very Happy Anniversary to you and your wife, Ron! And what a knife to celebrate with! An exceptional choice, my friend.

I am a big fan of Ironwood myself, you have a terrific example right there.

What a gorgeous knife, Ted! Buffalo Horn, yes? I know GEC has had issues with that material in the past. I hope they can someday revisit it. I know it can be finicky but it sure does look awfully sharp when it's done right.

Now that Imgur appears to have resolved their uploading issues, I can provide a picture of what I decided to carry in my pockets today.

A couple of splendid vintage knives!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Great group of Case knives, especially that canoe.
Thanks, GT. I really like that Case half congress, a perfect size, but I can understand the attraction to the mini copperlock.

Thanks, John & Stuart! :)

Thanks GT, I'd have a tough time deciding on which of those to carry as well. I vote the canoe :).

Remington again today, and likely tomorrow, etc.
Thanks for the canoe vote! :)
I know what your Remington of the Week is, and it's easy to see why!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

...That's a nice quartet of Case knives, GT. :thumbsup:

I've been carrying this Tidioute #72 Lockback ...

Thanks, Barrett. :) Sweet 72; I'm glad you found an effective fix for the blade rap! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

... A huge “Thank You” to Lee & Melissa at Olde Towne Cutlery for hooking me up with this beautiful stag #44 Gunstock Jack.

Congrats on the striking stag, Ratbert Ratbert !

Bulldog Tabacco Barlows : One with a Spey master and one with a Sheepfoot and both with a small Pen .
One with the Normal Curved handle and one with a Reverse Curved Handle

....Thank you very much @LastRodeo
Harry
Always enjoy seeing your very useful lambsfoot TEW, Harry, but that brace of Bulldog Barlows with "Tobacco" bolsters is mind-blowing!! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: Comprehensive congrats on that outstanding purchase! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

@LastRodeo doesn't get the credit he deserves for being a premier matchmaker between desired knives and folks on The Porch!! ;):cool::thumbsup: How does he keep track of who likes what so he can just "cold call" someone and say, "Hey, I have something I think you'll like!"?

1965-69 Copperhead, 6249 and 1973 Small Trapper, 6207. You inspired me with those great Case knives GT 5K Qs 5K Qs .
What a ravishing pair of red bone Cases, Leslie!! :thumbsup::cool::cool: Thanks for the kind words, but one of my "inspirational" Cases came from you, of course! ;):cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

... And the spear point has s-l-o-w-l-y over time overtaken the clip point as my favorite blade style.

...
IMHO, you're evolving into a very wise and discerning knife aficionado, @Vaporstang !! :thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Nice timing my friend! ;) And a classic Case line-up there :thumbsup:
...
Disappointed to wake up with my back still sore today, and after our three-day weekend a four day week always throws me. Weather is pretty miserable too :( Thought I'd treat myself ;) :thumbsup:

Thanks, Jack. :) I hope the double lambsfoot day has some recuperative power for your back issues! :thumbsup::thumbsup: That 2018 horn you have has a very ethereal, maybe even spooky, look to it! :cool::cool::cool:

A Winchester and Wright’s for me today. :)

Love the W^2 pair in the sunrise light, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I didn't know there would be homework in this thread! :eek::p

gUIiFt9.png

That was too easy, do you have something more challenging? :p
;):thumbsup: Every other summer, I vow to learn Python, and I make some progress and then have no reason to use it. By the next summer I've forgotten most of what I learned. (Actually, Python reminds me syntactically of the BASIC I learned in 1970.)

I'm totin' this pair for Twosday: a Queen model 28 large Farmer's Knife and a Queen model 51 Dogleg Jack, both from 1958-1960.

Double groovy, man!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:;)

Thanks, Gary. That is the Black Forest / Gutmann that I picked up from G2 awhile back. I do have a soft spot for those older German stag knives.....and whittlers....and ebony .....and stockmans ....and ... haha
Great group of Case knives you have there. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for endorsing my Cases and for the extra glamor shot of that exquisite Black Forest whittler with the top-shelf stag!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

BF Drover today.
You're a slave drover, Ken! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Have this one in the pocket today that I found at a flea market almost 10 years ago. It had quite a few rust spots, was really gunky and had barely any snap but the blades didn’t have much wear to it. I finally decided to clean it up, and forced a patina on it. Now it’s walking and talking and I think it looks decent. Looked at the covers under a loupe and see some woody looking grains but I still don’t know if they are wood or some man-made material.
The bolsters tip the scales for me in favor of that Kutmaster, Nick! ;):cool::thumbsup:

Taught a peach who's boss today....

Teaching is a rewarding profession, isn't it?? ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

These two today as I work from home waiting for my air conditioner to get fixed :(

You've really got your Remington Scout rhythm going, Tom! :cool::thumbsup::cool: No AC in St. Louis in August sounds less than ideal! :(

The local orchard just started picking Paula Reds this week. Nothing like a just picked apple.
Edited to add: In a side by side apple slicing test my Laguiole, with it's thin flat ground blade, is a much better apple knife.

Thanks for the performance comparison, Gary! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

So do I :D
Small initial impressions/review:

Thanks for the in-depth double review!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Your usual outstanding photo of sumptuous knives, Dylan! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Classic!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

For me, Lambsfoot of the Week and Stag/Horn Knife of the Week are the same knife, my Man Jack:

Stockman of the Week is a medium Uncle Henry (thanks, Dean):

International Knife of the Week (could have been the lambsfoot, I suppose) is an Okapi Baby Sable:

@Spaten That’s a great looking knife right there!:thumbsup:

GEC for me today.
That’s some sweet stag! What pattern is that? 53?

What a sweet picture!

That is a beautiful companion.

Very nice, Nick.

- Stuart
Thank you both for the kind words. I really enjoy this knife since it was a gift from my mom. Not a heirloom or the like. She just saw it, and picked it up for me since she knows I like old tools. Pocket knives especially. :D

We had loads of sun this summer and plenty of grapes, very sweet this year. There's a small vineyard not far - never tasted the wine, red or rosé - harvest usually a few days before my birthday, an opprtunity to party! :);)

We have also roses blooming along the passageway. Some people like to stop and chat, this reminds me of when I was young, the district then was more like a village.

interesting knife, what is it?

Thank you for the kind words! I look forward to your thoughts on the Buffalo Jack once you have had a chance to carry them and form an opinion. I like your objective views when you review a knife pattern.
Great carry choices today (including the HdM!)

Actually, Python reminds me syntactically of the BASIC I learned in 1970.

Double groovy, man!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:;)

I, unfortunately, remember my failed relationship with FORTRAN and punch cards in 1968 (?). I wasn't passionate for that dry relationship. But your kind compliment, GT, is in the proper jargon for that period, so I'm feeling the karma.

For me, Lambsfoot of the Week and Stag/Horn Knife of the Week are the same knife, my Man Jack

That is a fine knife, GT.

That is a stunner, Leslie. Thanks for sharing.

Throwback Thursday threeplay, 3 clamshell knives, Colonial, and 2 Imperial. I must say the clamshell construction may have been "cheaper", but all of the 3 Imperials,1 Hammer Brand,1 Colonial I have, take amazingly sharp edges. And also all of them are snappy, with good springs, and only one has the tiniest bit of blade wobble. These may have been "cheaper" but they are of good quality imho.

Love the dominoes! Those knives would look equally as good on a checker board (wooden checkers, of course).
