What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks Ben....I've been lurking for about 5 years now and figured it was about time to post something....lol

I´ve been carrying my Soddie CV while restoring the bottom knife, and old Klaas with stainless steel blades and a lot of rust + ebony scales (I think) ;) Some beer between, while letting the oil doing its work and so on...

I removed the rust inside the liners and the joints. Oiling it all together and putting a new edge on that old lady... now it´s razor sharp and has a great snap. Works pretty well ;)

Kind regards
Andi

That's looking nice Andi!

Done with yard work, cleaned up my tools and sharpened them both. Sometimes I really wonder how I can get an axe sharper than my pocket knife...

Oh well, I will get the little northfield, little by little :-p

Off to the woods :)

Sadly, I'll be flying without checked baggage so will be without a pocket knife for the next several days. Crazy mixed up world we live in these days!

you can always pick up a Victorinox classic just about anywhere and give it away before you leave :) if it gets dull you can always sharpen it up on a fingernail emory board

I carried the Queen Mountain Man slipjoint and my Snap-On stockman today. I spent the day hauling lobster traps so I didn't get much use out of them.

My sunday knife at its first sunday on my side... #66 Moose :) with todays setup

(Maybe I should qiut smoking and add one or two new knives to this... )

Kind regards
Andi

I received this one in the mail yesterday. Ordered it just because the forum knife pick didn't go my way (I'll still get a forum knife though) and I wanted to get one while they were still available in the wild. I'm carrying it today.

I have the same hatchet...mine's definitely not as sharp though... might work on the edge today.

Jake,

IMO its worth the time. Its a new hatchet to me. Last weekend my girl said she wanted her own machete. All of mine are 18" blades and I mod them to my needs. They are just a little much for her and dangerous. We went to the local hardware store and found this hatchet. Her goal was to help me clear a giant pile of rock maple that we drug to the woods with a truck last summer after storms. First thing I did was put a new edge on it and I threw a piece of 320 sand paper in my pocket. Like I figured the epoxied leather started slipping so I sanded off the epoxy in the field. Now it is so grippy. When I got back to the house I put some ren wax on the leather and it keeps the insane grip but protects it a bit. It rips up your hands at first, but whatever doesn't kill you right :)

Anyhow, it kind of stole my heart and I am a true machete guy. Tons of HARD WOOD and it held the edge great with no rolls or chips. Takes a scary edge too!

Very nice hatchet and I love the handle design. It almost chops for you.

Thanks for the tips, Kevin. Mine is mostly used just to split kiln dried kindling but I could see the handle slipping with more rigorous work. I picked it up at an "antique shop" a few years ago though it's definitely not antique. The previous owner did a number on the edge but I cleaned it up. Did you sharpen yours by hand?

...by the way, a good friend of mine makes weight lifting grips that could also be used for this sort of thing but I'm forgoing the plug. :p

Your welcome Jake, and heck no, I used my Kalamazoo 1SM. Its pretty much dedicated to lawn mower blades, machetes, axes/hatchets these days :)

By hand is reserved for my pocket knives (as it should be IMO)

BTW, I think you will like yours much more for a variety of jobs once you get it really profiled and sharp.

Okay, so I was strolling, I mean, scrolling through this thread with less than full attention when I saw this picture and thought, "Hey, that's supra-something's White Owl." I then scrolled up to confirm. Recognizing member's individual knives by picture alone is... good, right?

I got this little bird knife recently and it found it's way into my pocket. It came shaving sharp and is a great little tool. It may be pocketed often.
