What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A couple/three weeks ago Frank @knarfeng posted that he got one of these Rough Rider Coal Miner Half Hawks and was going to put it to work around his house. I liked it so much that I pulled a "copy-cat" and got one for myself to try out. So far it's performed well. It's certainly heavy enough to do whatever I do now a days. The fit and finish is excellent and the 440a stainless blades are easy to sharpen when needed.

I have one too Ed, and think it's an excellent knife for the pattern. Rough Rider did the same pattern with smooth tobacco bone covers and an acorn shield, which I wish I had kept too. It was the same price I think, and an even better looking knife

I too missed the smooth tobacco bone with acorn shield. I'll run across one one day though and get it.

Camillus WW2 US Army Engineers Knife today.

Of all the knives in my collection, two of my Engineers Knives have probably the most ideal walk and talk. A pull of maybe 5.5, and so much snap that the frame actually vibrates, both opening and closing. The spear blades are ground exceptionally thin for a scout pattern, approximately .018" behind the edge, so they cut remarkably well. And who can resist that vintage Camillus green bone with such artful jigging? The U.S.A. gimp shield tops off an already iconic looking knife.

Awesome !

The one on the bottom.

The forum knife, of course! Carried it to church, and will carry it the rest of the day.

Just this little ol' thing!

Those are some impressive examples of the elk BF 2018 knives from Buck, gentlemen!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

A lot of nice knives today you guys, too many to comment on! Been enjoying this canoe a lot. It’s got some heft to it, at 3 5/8” with a broader/wider profile, it feels bigger than it really is but with single springs and all rounded edges, it rides very nice in the pocket. The patina gets real blue on these 1095 blades, wonder what the difference is in the element contents compared to other 1095 blades that don’t turn quite as blue.
...
That's a fantastic canoe/shadow pen pair, Nick! Breath-taking, heart-stopping - I'm lucky I survived seeing the photo!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;) I think the color of the patina might depend at least as much on the material being cut as it does on the specific composition of the carbon steel.

It gets hard to get caught up sometimes istnt GT?

I do appreciate you’re compound posts, some don’t like reading long posts on their phones but I always look forward to your input and comments. It’s one of the reasons I post and read this thread so often.

Sometimes I miss the ability to tell how many posts you have in a particular thread. You’re diun’ a great job with your commentary my friend, keep it up.
Thanks for the encouraging words, Ted. :) Congrats on that pair of knives you posted recently that you rejuvenated, and thanks for the how-to post describing your cleaning methods!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for taking the time with your large multi quote posts, I don't even know how to do it but I'm sure it's not a quick thing to do.

That DE version imperial Barlow is pretty cool, I like my basic imperial Barlow but this one has a bit of extra cool factor.
Thanks. :) How would you describe differences between your Imperial Barlow and this DE version?

But it's misspelled: it should be "vade mecum." ;)
Thanks, Gary, but I misspelled it! See below. My friend always uses that phrase to describe his EDC (one of his master's degrees is in classical languages). Your RR stag is gorgeous!

Good catch! That's what I get for not checking before posting.
Thanks for the correction, Vince & Dean; what this country needs is a good Latin spellcheck app! ;)
Thanks for the sowbelly support, Dean. :)

Classic pair, Gev!:thumbsup::cool: (And are those 3 seasonal wise men from the East? ;))

I'm trying to bring some brightness into a cold and overcast day, so I'm totin' these two today: a Shapleigh Hardware(top) and a Novelty Cutlery (bottom).

Pretty pair of celluloid examples, Stuart!:cool::cool: That N. C. CO. knife is certainly a cut above what the current Novelty Knife Co. provides!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Gorgeous old cross red Alox!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Sweet congressional duet...

It's sharp...
Classy knife, John!:cool::thumbsup: Are you happy with the performance of your Lansky set-up? I wish I could find a rod-based system that offered steeper angles (15, 12, even 10 degrees per side).

Sunday carry

Is that becoming a Sunday tradition for you, Dean, or is it just selective attention on my part? Handsome choice!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I LOVE a good Jack Knife and my favorites are the older Case 6232 & big brother 6292. The 6232 changed to 62032, switch the "6" to a "5" when covered in Stag. When this was released it interest me, Stag, no shield and CV blades:thumbsup:. This is an exceptional Jack knife:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Centered blades with no play, no gaps, terrific walk n talk, NICELY matched Stag covers, laser etch on the pile side cover, plus the pen (wharncliffe like) is AWESOME:cool:

Really like the big distinctive pen on that model, Paul!:cool::thumbsup: Texas Jack, right? I wish that knife came with round bolsters (and the same blades).

I’m Totin this pair in Ebony today! :) Recycled photo because there’s definitely no sunshine here today! :(

Don't play poker with Ron, folks! He has both black aces up his sleeve! ;):thumbsup:

Glad the trapper is earning its keep GT :), the Barlow looks great with the sowbelly.

I’ve had these two with me today as I watch my fantasy football hopes go firmly down the drain.

Thanks for the comments, Tom. :) Sorry your football hopes are fading, but that pair of knives should bring some joy into your life!:thumbsup::cool:

I find it does a nice job when the edges need a touch-up. It does work better on my softer and thinner Case blades than it does on my harder and thicker GEC blades.
