What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Came much later, my guess is the late-1990's. I think they came around the time of the transition of standing dog to two dog head - as they also used the handle material on some of the latter. The handles were relatively unstable, but yours looks to be in great shape.

Thanks, Mike. What is confusing is that a) the name Bulldog is nowhere on the knife, and b) the tang stamp has PITT BULL (2 Ts), while all their etches have Pit Bulls with the correct spelling.

Distinctive Barlow, Senhor José!:thumbsup::cool: I like the look of your edges :thumbsup::cool:; how do you like to sharpen your knives? Do I see primary and secondary bevels on these blades?

Many thanks Mr. Gary, this knife has never been sharpened by me, I usually sharpen my knives with the stone...;)

I'm totin' a slightly unusual, to me, knife today: a W. C. Davis folder. Mr. Davis, who lived in Raymore and El Dorado, MO, and passed in 2015 at 71, was know for his fixed blade hunters, especially Loveless style drop points. He also made folders and designed several well-received ones for Böker. This one is similar to some of small lockbacks that he made or designed, but it has an aluminum frame with integral bolsters. I've not seen another aluminum frame Davis knife, but they may be out there. Also, it doesn't have his usual tang stamp or blade etch. Rather, W. C. DAVIS is finely engraved near the blade spine at the tang. It is a light, handy, sharp little knife, clad in horn (ram?). Maybe an early knife.

There is a black spacer, may be Micarta, at the butt of the knife to close the well.

This is what I am totin' to dinner tonight.
The other day I received a pm from Kevin ( veitsi_poika veitsi_poika ) - “Did you just win the bid on a knife I had for sale?” He said - “When I saw your name and the state I thought of you”. Well it was I who had bought the knife. It is a just about perfect Schrade Walden split back whittler.
Now in Kevin’s true style of ever thoughtful kindness he looked over my past posts until he figured out a knife that would be special to me. He saw that I really am fond of Olsen knives and have been slowly acquiring a few. He had a total of ONE Olsen OK folder which he promptly packaged up with the Schrade Walden and sent to me as a gift. What can I say about this guy that most of us don’t already know? Thank you my friend for this and the many other considerations you've extended to me.

This is the only thing I was ever able to find on that knife Jeff... it's from Price & Zalesky's book; I would feel better about it if they said "Pitt Bull" but of course they just have the one "T". I have spotted others when I did some Googling but was never able to get a definitive answer.

That is true, Dorton did start Bulldog (originally Pit Bull Terrier) in 1978 and made some gunstock patterns in 1980 that really got folks attention. But they all had fighting dogs until after 1993. The earliest were called "three legged dog" because it appeared as if one of the fighting dogs only had three legs. I always speculated that those patterns (there were a couple and usually had two eagles etched on the middle of the main blade) were made somewhere other than Olbertz - but don't remember ever asking Jim.

Sweet looking piggy, Dylan. Very clean looking, despite the moniker.

Another great photograph, Dylan, of a neat looking knife! I have been toying with the idea of getting the single blade version, but seeing yours just adds a new dimension to the temptation.:)

Thank you, fellas, for the compliments. It is a great knife and the single blade version that Alan sent me is just as excellent!

Dylan, the Jokers are much easier to get now with a US seller.:thumbsup:
Glad you're enjoying the sowbelly. I had no idea what a sowbelly stockman was almost 5 years ago, but one was included in a set of 12 Rough Riders in assorted patterns that I ordered. I intended to carry each knife for a week to see how I liked it, but once I got to the sowbelly, it stayed for 3 or 4 consecutive weeks before I forcibly evicted it from my pocket!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

Thank you for the Joker info, GT, I will be on the lookout for them. The Sowbelly pattern is just superband I am enjoying it immensely, I am happy to see I am not alone in that sentiment. :D

Thank you, my friend ! Where are your carries?

I'm going Sow today !

I wonder which photos Flickr will delete in Feb? They lied too...they should show some honor

I fine duo, Gev, but that Sowbelly is a show stopper. What a beautiful knife!

Somehow, I got multiquotes from 2 different threads all mixed together and will have to straighten it out tomorrow. I'll just continue my inventory of the knives I'm carrying in various categories for January 7-13.
