What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Nice hunk of stag! Does the other side match well? Beautiful. OH
Thanks! The other side does not match, which I think is common with Wright's stag knives:

I love both sides, though.

What exactly do you mean by meerschaum bone? Is that not genuine saw cut bone?

When I obtained the Ulster Barlow in my photo several years ago I did some research on the knife. Meerschaum bone is a confusing term, evidently first being used by Ulster & Schrade to describe actual bone handles, then being used to describe sawcut Delrin when that material began to be used in the Ulster and Schrade Old Timers early in the series and early in the use of Delrin (early 1960's). The quote below is how a discussion of just what is Meerschaum bone ended. From that discussion I took away my understanding (or misunderstanding - dependent on your understanding). Like many things in knife collecting, it is as clear as muddy river water. OH

Henry Baer coined the term Meerschaum bone for the 2OT bone handled knives, and the first knife to use the 3OT designation for that matter.
Delrin displaced the bone rather quickly as the OT line expanded, but the name was too good to lose (Baer was no dummy!), so became even better as "Meerschaum Unbreakable etc."! Then came Sawcut Delrin.

Thank you for the in depth response and link. A most interesting and educating post. My take away then is that it is bone. :)

My pair in my pocket today...
Beautiful photo Dennis.

I have a couple of other knives that I could carry but I do like to carry these a lot . So today is a TWO TEW's Tuesday again for me . I know , they are older than me and probably not replaceable , but they are pretty Right for me and they will not get the very ugly Verdigris .

Love to see them....amazing indeed !!!!!

Stuart, beautiful Barlow. I do believe that was made by Ulster, covered in their Meerschaum Bone. Here is hoping to a quick recovery for you. OH
Ps This is an old Ulster Barlow I own - look how similar they are.

Thanks, OH, for the compliment and encouragement toward recovery. I agree on the probable kinship of our barlows, and I take the Meershaum nomenclature to describe the creamy bone that develops color over time, much like a fine carved sepiolite pipe might.

This small lockback is finding a semi-permanent spot in my pocket. It is easy to carry, not too big or small. My fingers are not what they were any more and beartrap springs break my nails, so this is a good way to continue my knife habit. I just have to find a good way to rid myself of excess package, the knives I don't carry anymore.
