What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Have a great weekend!
I think I'm pretty much ready for anything with these!

Prior to that, the only pizza I'd ever had was some kind of Chef Boyardee abomination that my Mom would make a couple times per year, and I hated it.

Sweet knives, Paul & Dean! I love the pen blade on those Texas Jacks, so I guess I'm going to have to overcome my prejudice against square bolsters and track one down someday.

W:eek:W! Is that new, Jeff? The jigging reminds me of an unforgettable Schrade Barlow that Dean RDaneel RDaneel has!

Good looking knives, Gary. Thank you for your compliments. :)

Regarding Chef Boyardee pizza. That is a memory I had completely sublimated until your post dredged it up. :(:( That is what I thought pizza was for many years; I'm glad I learned what the real stuff is like!! :D

Looks like the winners of the Olympic Working Knives event on the medal stand, David! :):thumbsup::thumbsup:

With those fiery covers, Harvey, you've got yourself some flame-broiled lamb! :cool::thumbsup:;)

...
Case XX 6279F
...
That's a slender, smooth-profile beauty, Nick! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

...
Long, weary day today, but I've had help (2019 Guardians Lambsfoot SFO, Harrison Fisher Crown Penknife) ;) :thumbsup:
...
Impressive pen knife, Jack, and it's great to see Lucy's backside (am I allowed to say that? :rolleyes:)! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I carried these two on my walk today: A Boker Barlow and Case Texas Jack. While we were walking, a plane flew right over us.
...
Excellent pics, Dean! That Böker Barlow with the tree on the bolster is such a classic! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Barlow and a SY Whittler
...
That's a handsome couple, Steve! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I've been keeping to my challenge and carrying the Stockyard Whittler every day since I got it in August.

Today's high temperature: 99F
Tomorrow's expected low: 50F
...
Seems quite toasty for October! :eek: What's that smooth orangey bone jack? Quite appealing! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Headed out in the morning with my oldest daughter to go deer hunting. Had every intention to take the Hess Whitetail. About 3:00 I got the call from the nursing home that my 102 year old Grandad had passed. Being a lifelong hunter and knowing what he wanted to happen upon his death, we are going hunting. There will be a party later for him.

Now the only choice I had was to take his Western he gave me the year my oldest daughter was born. He packed it on Okinawa in WW II, used it on Moose, Caribou, Deer, Antelope, fish and who knows what else. Hoping he and it will bring us some good luck.
...
I’ve been debating about what to do with the Frontier stockman I picked up like he used to carry. I thought about sending it over to be buried with him, in case he needs one wherever he ends up, but decided I’m going to just use the hell out of it...I think he’d approve.
...
Sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing, but I admire the way you're celebrating his life! :thumbsup::thumbsup: I've enjoyed your posts about him and his knives. :):cool::cool:

...
5K Qs 5K Qs - Your Martinez navaja de campaña is magnifico.
Thanks, Harvey. :) My Spanish-speaking daughter was able to persuade the clerk in the cuchilleria that I really wanted, and could care for, a carbon steel blade, so he went in the back of the store to get one. Unfortunately, after I returned to the US I discovered that it was stainless. :(

...
Quite the lovely foursome Gary; your Vic Elinox is very cool!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thank you Gary!!! I'm sure you'd really enjoy the simple elegance of a 15 boy's knife!;):thumbsup::thumbsup:
...
You'd make the "Gipper" proud with your "fearsome foursome" Gary; very cool!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
...
I appreciate your taking time to remark on our knives, JJ. :)

For Friday my totes are a couple of Barlows, both covered in Robeson's late 40s to the late 50s strawberry bone; a standard Barlow and a large Daddy Barlow.:)
...
JJ, I like those strawberries, even if they're not fresh! :thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Handsome stag Weidmannsheil, José! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

A particular favourite of mine in your rotation Gary, hope you have a great weekend :thumbsup:
...
Thank you Harvey, I am a sucker for good bread, and that baguette is already gone! :D I had some just as it was, some more just buttered, more spread with pate, accompanied by olives and a glass of wine, and finished it off for breakfast, lightly toasted, and spread with orange marmalade :)
...
Morning folks, hope everyone has had a decent week, and is looking forward to the weekend :) I'm carrying my Unity Cutlery Co-op Lambsfoot and a GEC #15 :) :thumbsup:
...
Thanks for the well-wishes, Jack. :)
Sounds like you derived plenty, and various, enjoyment from that baguette. :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
Notable pair of knives!

I’m carrying two in Ebony today. I’ve got a Tidioute #79 Workhorse Whittler and Tidioute #73 Scout Trapper. :D Y’all have a great Friday! :thumbsup:
...
Splendid pair for Friday (or Wednesday), Ron! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
Reading Goofus and Gallant, I always felt there was a 'middle road' not depicted. Also, as the youngest with two older brothers, I found I could get away with a lot if I did my mischief quietly. ;)
I doubt it will get below 50 this week, so I may as well keep carrying the Stockyard through Halloween. Along with a few others, of course.
...
What's the name of the kid between Goofus and Gallant? ;)
Tremendous trio regardless of temperature! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thank you, GT! Between your Martinez and my stumbling upon your posts in the Spanish knives threads, I'm starting to get the itch again for a Joker. Maybe I'll pick one up as a Christmas present for myself.
Shawn, are Jack and Vince on the right track in proposing Joker options for you? I thought you meant something more along these lines; say, slip joint vs. lockback:

hornLB.mark.Vopen.jpg
Which of the four Jokers is your favorite, Shawn? ;)

Thank you. To be honest, I'd never really stopped and looked closely at the buggy until I was posting the picture (I had always concentrated on the people before.) I was amazed when I realized just how lightly built the buggy was and how thin the wood in the wheels was, yet those buggies could last for years under hard use on rough roads (or sometimes no roads). Those old wheelwrights and buggy makers really knew what they were doing!
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Very nice foursome, Gary! The Elinox secretary is top drawer for sure. :thumbsup::thumbsup:
...
Thanks for your daily kind words, Dean. :)

Ancient spear in sawcut bone (excellent creation by Charlie and GEC) and Case Peanut.
...
Captivating and complementary pair, Dean! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks GT, much appreciated! Happy Friday everyone.
...
That scout is scintillating, Tom! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

I use this little A.G. Russell almost daily around the house, but it rarely finds its way into my pocket. Changing that today, as it's really a great little knife and actually one of my favorites......
I remember being impressed when you first got that, Todd! :cool::thumbsup::cool: I checked the website this morning, and those Barlows now come with a pocket clip. Did yours have one originally?

Pocketful of sunshine, Dave! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Today's two totes are a pair of old pen knives; a slim Cattaraugus and a peculiar Canton Cut Co (1879-1927) with highly touted "Car-Van" steel.:)

A copy of the old "Car-Van" steel advertisement.:eek:
Thank you JJ. Two cool knives. But that Canton Cut Co is way cool. So was the print ad for Car-Van Steel.:thumbsup:

5K Qs 5K Qs - Thank you GT. The Lamb covers are Sambar. The other side is equally nice, but Different. Your Joker and Union Jack are looking mighty fine.

Thanks, GT. That orange bone jack is a little Keen Kutter, originally in bad celluloid. @Markesharp rehandled it and gave it to me. Thanks, Mark!

Tremendous trio regardless of temperature! :thumbsup::cool:
That's my point. The cartoon didn't have one, but most kids I've known act somewhere in the middle ground between angel and sociopath. :D

been carrying this new to me (great deal on exchange here) J Mutz canoe with old school chunky stag. I like it!

Congrats on getting that very desirable canoe variation! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup: I've seen those 1-blade barehead Mutz canoes before, and they're certainly an intriguingly unique take on the canoe pattern. I like that smooth stag, too, and if you're right-handed, I'll bet that extra thickness on the pile side will feel great while you're using the knife!

All weather, all stainless, Joseph Rodgers Lamb Foot.

Splendid photo of an engaging all-metal knife, Harvey! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Commendable comparison shot of a couple of classic barlows! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

On Old Friends Friday, I'm totin' a Harris Bros. (1915-1926) large folding hunter, the Coke bottle handle of which was re-covered by a former owner in a white synthetic. It is resting on a Stevens model 311 (circa 10 B.C.) in 16 gauge that was once owned by my stepfather's father (stepgrandfather?) and which I cleaned today.
...
- Stuart
10 B.C. :p:thumbsup: When I was a lad, an ancient single-shot 16-gauge shotgun was the only firearm on our farm (until my 2 brothers and I got out BB guns, which weren't really firearms). That white folding hunter is an attention grabber, Stuart! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Have a great weekend folks, I'll have these two with me tomorrow :) :thumbsup:
...
Jack, your jigged bone WCLF and your Spanish custom are a pair that make me weak in the knees! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Old Camillus sleeveboard.
You know that Camillus will thrill us, Nick! :cool::cool::thumbsup:;)

This will be my first image post, hope it works.

Your ebony Churchill is always worth waiting for, Steve! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

That is a high quality quartet, GT, especially the covers on the cotton sampler.

Thanks, Stuart :); that IS quite pleasant stag bone on my little cotton sampler.

Quality pair of pen knives, JJ, especially the shadow pattern, and the old ad gave me a chuckle! ;):cool::cool:

That's a handsome knife, @Travman, and that large head on the center pin is cool! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Wonderful rosewood on your Union Jack. :cool: :thumbsup:
Thanks, John. :)

Satisfying Saturday duo, John! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Free choice #1 this week is this Case amber bone mini trapper that came with a cap lifter, but @black mamba had @glennbad swap it for the spey blade of a Case sowbelly stockman, creating the Beerbelly :D! Jeff was kind enough to send me this "byproduct" of the transformation.

Free choice #2 is a Rough Rider white bone canoe with scrimshaw (thanks, Rachel):
