I'm toting a couple of wood covered cutters for Wednesday; a beefy Case Hunter from the late 60s and a lightweight Portuguese slicer from Mam.:)
...
Good morning everyone! :) I’ve paired these two wood covered favorites up again for today! :D
...
I'm totin' some wee wooden workers today.

Tons of terrific timber in your twosomes, JJ & Ron & Stuart!:thumbsup::cool:
JJ, the MAM is magnificent! Ron, your Osage Orange is outta sight! Stuart, your "twins" glisten!

I usually pair a smaller/user with my fancier carry. The Camillus Office Knife is a good candidate for that job but it's always been a nail breaker. I pulled it out today and all of a sudden it has the smoothest w&t. Halloween ghosts???View attachment 1226875
Remember the song "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate in the 70s? The first line was, "I believe in miracles" and that was oft-repeated throughout the song. It was about the miracle of romance, but I think it applies to knives, too. Sounds like you've experienced one of those miracles, Alan!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

Northwoods Ebony Presidential

Pleasurable to see that Presidential again, Dean, eve if it means the weather must be turning colder!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

My kale is the same way. I’ve dug the leaves out from under six inches of snow and it’s fine. In fact, it’s sweeter after the frost comes. I know a lot of people don’t like kale, but we think it’s good. For sure, it has the longest harvest season in my garden. And even though you can just snap the leaves off like a heathen, I use a knife, because knives are more genteel and civilized.
This brought back fond memories, Jeff.;) When I was a lad, we'd often go visit my mother's parents after church. My brothers and I would race to see who could get to "Grandpa's chair" first so we could hear him growl, "Get outta my chair, ya little heathens!" He probably wished we were more genteel and civilized. :D:p

Very nice looking Sowbelly, GT.:thumbsup:
...
You are pretty well stocked up, GT. I'd like to hear the tales that the BB Winchester could tell.

Thanks, John & Stuart; I'm really happy to have been in the right place at the right time to claim that beauty! :)

...
Hope everyone is having a great day :) It's cold and wet here, but I've got the warmth of these two in my pockets ;)

Jack, Lucy looks positively stunning in the sunlight!:cool::thumbsup: I don't know why she prefers to only come out at night! :D
That ET face on the left end is especially pronounced in this shot!:cool:;)

Today. I'm totin' another older knife that @Half/Stop helped me uncover in some old display boxes. I'm not a patina patron, although I understand that it is a bit like rust bluing to protect some metals. However, I did not have the heart to polish away the honestly earned fading of the brass covers on this barehead swell end jack from C.F. Wolfertz & Co. (1905-1944). It seems to have been sharpened by a loving owner long ago.

I wanna strike up the (brass) band when I see one of those old metal knives! Very cool, Stuart!:cool::thumbsup:

I managed to try out an RR canoe in bone recently on sending a traditional bundle up to Canada for a forum member to try.

Great fit and finish, even grinds and most importantly arrived hair shaving sharp!
My experience with RR canoes (and most RRs for that matter) matches yours, sir!:cool::cool:

You are commanding a fine flotilla, GT. (And totin' a lot of knives - 4 sowbellies/stockman yesterday, 4 canoes today - a veritable cutlery caravan.) My favorite of you fleet is your "free choice":

I value your opinion, Stuart! :)

At first I couldn't see this knife as "plain" and then I realized you were referring to the secondary blade.;)
:D:D I should probably change my canoe terminology. "Plain" should probably be replaced by "Econo", since the canoes in my "Plain" list were primarily inexpensive and easy to find when I bought them. "Fancy" should probably be replaced by "Premium", a category consisting of higher-priced canoes, some of which are older and more challenging to locate.

5K Qs 5K Qs - Your 1-XL Canoe is a handsome chap, GT.

Really enjoying your armada of canoes today Gary; your lovely Sheffield "fancy" canoe is very cool!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks, Harvey & JJ; I concur with your opinions. :)

Fine-looking fleet GT :)

Morning folks, hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend :) Carrying another of my Hartshead Barlows today, along with the 2018 forum knife
...
Thanks, Jack. :)
Couple of celebrated "community" knives you're toting!

That's Way-cool-a-go-go, GT. :cool::thumbsup:
True fact, John! :) I didn't even realize that my birth day and month were on the canoe until the GAW prize arrived; then I felt a tiny bit sorry for the other GAW participants since the knife was obviously "destined" for me and no one else really had a chance!:p:D

We’re going to be driving some this weekend. Linus will be my only knife! :)...
Cool pic of Linus, Ron!:thumbsup::cool: Safe travels; are you going to pick up the knives you left in DC?

The only fall colors around our place today are on my Cramer LCJ.
Good thing I planned on changing the oil in my snow blower tomorrow. It won't be long!

The puukko by Juha Perttula is interesting. It breaks the conventions of Finnish puukko's by having a finger quard and a sheath with snap tab. Very comfortable in hand, the handle is actually so long that I could shorten it a bit. The edge on this knife is something to behold. I don't know how to describe in any other way than scary. Easily one the sharpest I have ever had as new. The maker knows what he is doing, I have to get a piece of wood and try whittling.

I shortened the handle and gave the end of it a bit more rounded shape. Also I tried the edge on a bit of scrap wood. The knife was wonderfull, effortless, comfortable, it cut amazingly. I think I just found my near perfect pocket puukko. Recommended.

Thanks, Vince. :) Those are 3 impressive musketeers you have there!:cool::cool: Maybe you should name them Liberté, Egalité, and Fraternité!? :D I've seen the Laguiole in your past posts, but the Opinel seems to be showing up frequently in the past week; are the Opinel and Douk-Douk new acquisitions? How do you like the Opinel so far? Every time I use one of my Opinels, I get the feeling that if I just cared about function, about cutting stuff, then Opinel is the only knife I need.
I got the Laguiole for my birthday last month; the Opinel and Douk-Douk are belated birthday presents. Got some cash for my birthday, and I bought a knife sharpener, a Buck 110, a No. 8 Opinel, and the Douk-Douk. I've been wanting those latter two for awhile. I like the Laguiole the best, but it does seem that I can get the other two carbon-bladed knives just a little bit sharper. Maybe it just takes longer with the 14C28 on the Laguiole.

The Douk-Douk I just had to have because I love the way it looks, and I love it's history. It's not that comfortable in the hand, but that's okay.

As for the Opinel, I am very impressed. It cost almost nothing, but is lightweight and feels great in the hand. I love the size of the No. 8, and the blade shape: beautiful and useful. I like being able to lock it open, but I never lock it closed--the blade will not open on its own. And I agree that it is really the only knife I need. But the Lag is prettier, and feels a little better in the hand (the 12cm size). And I also like lambsfoots, navajas, stockmans, trappers, etc. But I suspect I will carry the Opinel a LOT.

One of our Daughters and her Husband are here for the weekend and we had to take a little drive today for this .

Have these in my pockets today . 77 Red Sawcut & 14 Blackwood ? or Ebony ?Barlows .

Sorry for the horrible colors in most of the pictures .
Needless to say , we did indulge ourselves .
