What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Two weeks off from work [voluntary, paid for 65 and older] so I used these to get the Moped going for this season. These old Tl-29's are very handy.

Happy Thursday porch people, ;) seein’ as my need for travel has been substantially reduced, I did a video doctor visit yesterday, that was very convenient. By not going to a physical location for the visit I bet I saved at least 4 hours of time and at least $30-$40 spent for lunch and whatever incidental shoppin’ before comin’ home.

A public service announcement for anyone preparin’ to do a video conference call of any kind, pick your background carefully. The doctor can see more than just your head depending on how far from the camera you are.

Lastly be aware of what’s on the table in front of you. I was sharpening the camp knives when he called I was workin’ in my EK model 5 Combat Bowie at the time. His first comment was, “... what do you use such a big knife for?”

I told him it wasn’t really that big, he had to remember the camera adds a few inches. Lol

He didn’t get it.

Today because I don’t have anywhere to go I have the 2019 Forum knife. I fell in love with this pattern the moment I saw it, holding it in hand just confirmed what I suspected from the start, it’s a favorite.

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay at least 4 beagle lengths away. (For you cat people that’s 8-10 Tabbys)

Memorable quote about doing nothing, Harry!
:D

Nice pic! Great fixed blade.

:thumbsup:I’m quoting you because I like to say
Gumfuddy.
Speaking of Gumfuddy, did you ever put Peeps in the microwave?

Love ‘em both, Vince! The Stockman looks pristine.

That’s a wonderful photo of your Patriot, Jack.

Nice photos of a beautiful knife, Jose!

Said it before...great tribute to a classic pattern.
I might be biased because my Grandad carried an old Camillus in that pattern.

:thumbsup:Nice.
So true, my friend.

He sure did, Ron!

Today, the cigar boxes yielded up two old Camillus, a 23, and a 72, and yesterday’s mail produced this Kutmaster hawksbill. The first slip up in my self discipline campaign of not spending money on more knives for a while.
Something about Rules Being Meant To Be Broken, or was that something about a fool and money...
Other than a little wear to the tip, likely from cutting drywall, since it has a plumbing supply stamp in the rosewood,
(Pretty nice rosewood, too),View attachment 1314000
the blade has very little or no sharpening loss, which can be common in hawksbills, and the snap is strong - no need for a blade lock.View attachment 1313990

Awhile ago, our electric can opener died.
After poking around the kitchen gadgets aisle in a couple of stores, I decided not to waste my money. I have Swiss Army and scout knives!
Well, I guess I’d better leave a SAK in the kitchen for Mrs Grave Fleschwund.:D

Give her a few more cans to open and you could sell the pointy part of the lid as a modern interpretation of a traditional ninja throwing star. ;)

ETA Gotta give her points for determination. Lol my wife woulda just gave it to me to open. Luckily I have an old Swing-A-Way can opener and if you’ve ever used one you’ll understand how they were the best mechanical can opener ever. It was so good they were used on the International Space Station exclusively.

Unfortunately they went outta business, I guess they made them so well that they rarely needed replacing. So if you bought one, odds are you’d never buy another unless it was a gift for someone else. They last forever.

In case you don’t know what I’m talkin’ about hers a pic of one, (not mine, I’m not home).

Can opener is a traditional sharpened edged tool right? ;)

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - The original Amco Swing-A-Way is still available, just under a different name. When Swing-A-Way production moved overseas the company which had been making them in the US for Amco just started making them again under the name EZ-DUZ-IT. They are still available from a number of sources. I bought one last year and as soon as I tried it, I got another for a spare.
(Today's carry included for knife content. Sorry for the lousy photo.)

Those do work, but they can wear out.
The import clones, wear out faster.

I do have this antique Can-O-Matic that belonged to my Grandmother. I’m going to take it apart, make some adjustments, and lube it. The mechanism is supposed to cam the gear down to release the can rim when you move the handle backwards, and it’s gummed up.
How about that awesome Seafoam Green color?!!
