Voos Arrow and a #43 today

I came very close to swapping my whittler for a Voos after seeing this.:D
Great combo right here!
This is from yesterday afternoon. My knee is sore, and we’re pretty caught up at the farm, so I left early. For the first time this summer (HIGHLY irregular for me, but a consequence of going in on this growing food venture), I went fishing. My sore knee and the heat precluded the long walk/wade to my favorite spot, a long sweeping cut bank which always has some huge smallmouth bass.
I just did some lazy bank fishing. The smallmouth were biting, even though they were little guys. Anyway, fishing means carrying fishing knives. This Sabre is likely the knife I’ve had longer than any other, especially since my two younger brothers made off with my Scout knives when I went to college. Grandpa got me my first tackle box and stocked it with essentials when I was seven or eight.

The Victorinox Fisherman was a Christmas gift from my best wife a long time ago, and I had to carry that as well:D.
Today’s totes~View attachment 1406230I’m going to use this whittler until I tame the hard pull.
It’s Tuesday. Make it a great one!:)

29 again today. Mentioned I wanted to stick with it for a bit, but how long should that bit be? Decided to take some inspiration from r8shell r8shell and her adventure with the 29 last year, and have weather set the limit.

Going to stick with this one until at least the first snow this year (which here, could be anywhere from tomorrow until September or October).

Got to admit it is starting to grow on me... :)

Paul, I’ve also had some that just seem easier to get super sharp, so I get what you’re saying. The thing I appreciate about GEC’s grinds and factory edges is that they’re consistent and easy to sharpen, at least in my experience. I can only think of a couple that have ever given me any trouble, and even then the issue was minor.

Thanks guys. It is an interesting pattern. Fairly slim handle with a lot of blade (which seems common with French folders). I like how the edge is offset a bit from the handle, sort of like a Santoku. The only downside I’ve found so far is that the blade/handle combination results in a very high-sitting tang when the knife is closed.

(I’d call it a pocket killer, but honestly, the corner on that tang is less sharp the the square bolsters on the #23 I’ve been carrying.) :D

Harry, you just need to add a blade with some belly and you’d have all the bases covered! ;) :D

Paul, that’s absolutely one of my favorite knives GEC has made.  If I remember correctly, Bob was a big fan of that one, too. :)
Thanks Barrett, the Yankee Jack sat for sometime as it seemed to nice to carry, and that usually doesn't apply to me. I think all knives need to be carried so out it came awhile ago and I'm glad it see's pocket time vs a knife roll. I brought it out as apples are getting ready to pluck from my dads apple tree. I don't eat to many store bought because they just don't compare to whatever kind my dads apples are. The Yankee Jack has a great apple slice main as the apples on dads tree are good sized:)

Your right about Bob liking the Yankee Jack:thumbsup: IF the NFL does play this year then it won't be long and Bob's daughter Lan and I will be texting on Sunday's;)
Thanks for the info JJ, great stuff :)

That's a nice one Paul

That's a great pic Barrett  The tang does sit high doesn't it, I think I do what Vince Prester John Prester John does, and carry it in a slip? :) I've had some GEC pocket killers too! :D

Hope everyone's week is going well, so far :) Pairing my Hartshead Barlow with a random Case Peanut today

Nice!
If I were waiting for snow, last year's challenge would still be going on. :D

Have a friend "Jeff" whose wife is compromised with cancer, crones, etc., so she has been super careful staying home. When things recovered where she could go in for a colonoscopy, they called at 8 PM (after the awful prep) and told her it was cancelled as she had covid. She had a fever / aches a couple weeks before but it was gone and she is fine. They also have a down syndrome son, 25 year old body with a 5 year old mind. Jeff and his son went to give blood, told them they might have been exposed. Came back his son had antibodies but Jeff didn’t! Jeff is proud of the fact his son has never had a cavity as a child or adult because Jeff is so meticulous flossing and brushing his son’s teeth 3 times a day. Jeff also was hugging and kissing his wife. These were not fly by night tests. They are super happy his wife and son have had it and recovered, but perplexed how Jeff could possibly not have had it. Me too ... unless the Oklahoma Blood Institute testing is flawed, and if it is we are all in trouble.

If anyone has any nifebrite they want to let go of, have got your $$$. Single blade preferred, users ok!

You are right about store bought apples. We rarely buy any because of the great apples we can find locally. This part of Virginia used to be the largest apple producing area in the world. We still have a lot of orchards and cold storage warehouses.

I love your stag half Congress. It has everything going for it. It has my favorite kind of stag. It has that smooth polished look as it nears the bolsters. Also, it has the perfect shield for that pattern.
