What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

This made it to me Friday. My first custom that I had input in. African blackwood Eureka Jack, with a handmade shield (used by NY Cutlery Co in the early 1900s). The craftsmanship is impeccable, and I couldn't be happier and more proud to have it.

Beautiful knife :) WOW
Blade size, shape and proportions look great. Shield, scales, and pins are all right on the money. Good job.

The more I look at it, the more I like it.

You had the secondary placed on the correct side too! :p

Are you gonna use it?

I resisted this Moose pattern for quite a while thinking it was too big. However, after getting this one on a pretty good deal, I have to say that it is a hell of a knife. Smooth as silk without half stops. Two great blades. With wooden Osage handles, it actually feels much lighter than I thought it would. Great all around knife.

On a different topic, if any of you have the email of @r redden , you might want drop him a note and check up on him. Randy had a dust up on another thread a while back and has not been back to the Porch since then. I always hate to see someone disappear like that. If you are reading but not writing Randy, please come back. I always enjoyed reading your posts.

Happy Anniversary Ron, @Half/Stop !
I am enjoying your posts @Corto_Malt . What do your friends think of that GEC knife?

Have a Blessed Sunday everyone!

Thank you! He did a tremendous job on it, and yes, I am very particular about the secondary being in front of the primary. To me, it looks better, and is accessed easier.

The shield itself is probably not for everyone, but I love it. I've been trying to find a vintage knife with this shield for quite some time, and it's proven, so far, to be an endless quest. Just photos, and dead end leads so far. So, I decided to finally have a custom made, marrying my favorite knife to my favorite shield. Thank heavens Mike was able and willing! He had to do a lot of precision work on it, and did an amazing job.

It will get used. I've got two Eurekas that get dirty, and a few more that get/have gotten light use. This will be a light user for sure.

Like everything that is vague, there is no official watch pocket size that I know of. I wore Wrangler Pro Rodeo jeans for 25 years, until about 15 years ago when they quit sewing them in the USA (same USA cloth but different sewing - didn’t fit the same). At that time I switched to Carhartt, today I have their standard work grade cloth in both long pants and shorts as well as their bluejeans - and the watch pockets are all different - some small so only a pen will fit, some a little larger where a medium Stockman will fit. Look at the “watch pocket” on these Carhartt jeans - you could carry a machete! The top photo shows a Buck 110LT that I stuck down in the pocket, but the bottom picture shows the same knife pushed all the way down. Funny thing is when you sit you cannot even feel it’s there as it turns with the pants, the lightweight LT further adds to the convenience of carrying a big knife undetected and unobtrusively. OH

Good morning, Bruce! Thanks for taking the time to answer. I’ve found the same disparity in pocket size.
Ideally, that little pocket should be big enough to hold a Peanut jack, Victorinox Classic, or Wenger Esquire, or small pen knife, a couple of dental flossers, and several guitar picks:D

I just was wondering if I was mis-identifying “watch pocket” after seeing what some of y’all manage to squeeze in there.

Happy Anniversary to Ron & Pam, many more!

Sticking with my 3318, carried it for five days now. Yesterday I finished my latest project (except for caulk & paint) - a storage cabinet on the back of my shed - getting all my gas cans, LP tanks, and lawn tools out of the main shed and out from underfoot. This afternoon is for boating and cooking out. Have a nice Sunday gents (and ladies). OH

I have a home made Esquire partially under construction in the garage. Thanks for the inspiration to get back to it!

Glad to help! This one is my best to date. I generally end up with at least a short list of "I wish I would have..." or "I wish I wouldn't have...", but I'm 100% happy with this one! Maybe I'll get inspired again next year to build another.

Ok, serious question ~ WHAT IS A WATCH POCKET???
I always thought it was the little pocket above the right front pocket. Originally big enough for a ...pocket watch;), which, when pocket watches became antiquated, morphed into a “change pocket”. Along the line, they shrunk, too.
I find that they hold a Peanut, or similar sized knife only. If we are talking about the same pocket, how in the blue blazes do you fit a Mercator in there??? Sticking out the top, poking your gut when you sit? Straighten me out!:)
EDIT: that’s a DoukDouk, isn’t it?
Yup, it's a small (3.5" closed) douk-douk. And we are talking about the same pocket. I've seen watch pockets made larger of late and called technology pockets.
