Your woody Robesons rock, JJ!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Such sad and unexpected news. My condolences to Ron's family and to his friends for their loss; I'll be praying that their happy memories can help them through this time of grief.

Thanks for letting us know here on The Porch, Harry, and thanks to everyone who posted their experiences with Ron that displayed his outstanding character. My impression of Ron from my interactions with him here is that he was a kind and gentle guy, very thoughtful and generous, even though his demonstration of those virtues was often "behind the scenes". But he was not "above" getting involved in some sneaky shenanigans at times!

Coincidentally, almost exactly 5 years ago, I received a package, labeled "Do not open until Christmas", with a return address from Tennessee. The only person I could think of that I even knew in TN was Ron, but he didn't know my address! I contacted him to ask about it, and he gave me some hogwash about Christmas being a time of surprises (just like my mom used to do when I was a kid). This is what I found when I opened the package after I returned from church on Christmas morning that year.

Inside the card was a very nice note:

Ron's almost-daily participation here at BF will certainly be missed.
Thank you very much, Gary!!!
Ron was certainly a very special person, he will be missed.

This may not be the place where this should be posted , but since it is one of the Highest Viewed threads there is , this is where I am going to post it and this will be tough for me to do .
Today I lost a very good friend to me and a good friend to many of you . His wife has asked to let you all know that @Half/Stop Ron passed away . He had open heart surgery for a Torn Aorta about 3 weeks ago and was back at home for about 2 weeks . He collapsed this afternoon and was rushed to the hospital but was not strong enough to survive . I know some of you asked about him , but he did not want it to be known as to why he wasn't on the Forums . At one point , it appeared that he was Okay a couple of weeks ago , but that eventually changed . I know for a fact that I will miss him and his phone calls .
When Ron was young and running a Paper Route he would go down to the local hardware store and buy a knife on lay-away . So you know he had been collecting for a few years . He was 66 years old . In the Louis Lamour books about the Sacketts , they talked about " A Guy Good Enough To Ride The River With " . I would have " rode the river " with Ron .

Harry
RIP Ron (@Half/Stop). Such sad news as I always enjoyed his posts and comments. Life is fleeting my friends. Drink up everyday, thank the Lord for your blessings, and try to make the world a better place with your every action.
Very sad when we lose a good one. Makes me stop and think what really matters out there. He was still a young man, but I am sure he is at a peaceful spot right now.

In Ron's remembrance, does anyone have a photo to share of him? Just in honor of his as such a vital part of the traditionals forum.
Yes !!!
For 3 years you could find Ron & I sitting outside at the Rendezvous : 2017 /// 2018 /// 2019

Sometimes people would ask directions and Ron was only too eager to tell them where to go in the most kind and Gentlemanly way .

Cool pocket dump pic, Jer!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Have you upgraded your camera or your photography skills recently? It seems to me that you're posting high-quality images much more consistently than was your custom in the past.

I like that attractive tobacco bone Half Hawk and the Imperial Jack; but, I love the Canittler!:thumbsup:
Thanks, Dean. :) I really like that pattern, too, and have been thinking I should consider moving it into my non-rotating "eternal" carries.

I carried these two today: Case Autumn bone single blade Barlow and Amber bone medium stockman.

Absolutely love that barlow, beautiful covers and CV steel! What a great knife, not to take anything away from the stockman, but that Barlow is a show stopper.
Definitely an impressive pair of Case knives, Dean!:cool::thumbsup:
Just as an example of how subjective this all is, I have exactly the opposite reaction from bigfish64 bigfish64 ! ;) That amber bone stockman with the rounded and quad-threaded bolsters is what had me searching the internet!

Cool wallet, and great story!
Thanks, Jeff. :)

Happy birthday to you, Gary ( 5K Qs 5K Qs ).:thumbsup:
A very happy day for you and family, stay safe.:)
I appreciate your good wishes, José. :)

Case Heavy Jack and a Utica Cattleman today

What a pair, Steve; I'll vote for the Utica in the preference poll.:cool::thumbsup:;)

Toting these two Cases today. :)
You gotta be jubilant over having a pair of jacks like that, JJ!:cool::cool:

Superlative sentiment and photo, Jack!:thumbsup::cool:

Happy Sunday All.
I'm glad I got most of my chores done yesterday.
Now I can sit back, relax, and enjoy the football games.
Laudable lambsfoot, John!:thumbsup::cool: Sounds like you're ready for some football. ;)

5K Qs 5K Qs ~ thanks for sharing that!
He knew the joy of giving.
:thumbsup: So glad you guys got to spend a little time together right before his health took such a horrible turn.

I toting today this Portuguese of Francisco Diz-Águas Vivas in stag.;)

Delightful knife, José! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

This Case Barlow for Sunday. The covers are called Peacock Appaloosa bone; the Turquoise Eagle I got in Bisbee Arizona 36 years ago.

Your Peacock and Eagle are birds of a feather, Dean!:cool::thumbsup:

I still haven't used it enough to say for sure, but I don't really notice that it's a chisel grind in use.
Thanks for the feedback. :)

It used to spend a lot of time in my pocket, and now it sits on my workbench. The spey blade gets sharpened a LOT to keep it razor sharp for skiving leather.

Cool looking stag. It lacks texture but makes up for it with that amazing color.
Thanks for some background on your trapper, and for the kind words about my mini trapper. :) The unpictured side of the RR stag sowbelly I posted also has some color not often seen with stag.

Thanks Gary and nice bone on those RR'ers !
Thanks, Steve. :)

My heart was strangely warmed when I read your comment, Gary! ;):)

Thank you, Gary. You are carrying a handsome group of pocket cutlery!:thumbsup:
:D
Thanks for the support, Dean. :)

For some reason, Schrade calls that model a Landshark, and as a Guardian of the Lambsfoot, I felt compelled to modify it slightly. ;)

Thank you Harry for sharing those memorable heart warming photos of the good times shared :)

Thanks very much, but no- must be a string of flukes.

Three of my favorite things in one photo - kinda.

Traveling the Desert Southwest is mostly on hold for now, but I can research and plan, and start visiting stuff close to me that is open and available.

Photography. Although it's been a bit more limited this year. Just a hobby, but I love it. My grab-n-go camera is the little Fuji X100F.

The Boker Barlow Expedition that I chose as my best traditional knife purchase for the year. It's going back in my pocket again, for at least the remainder of 2020. I like it so much, I may buy another as a spare. o_O

Son of a gun!!! I knew it!! I went to the Rendezvous a few years back and got there at like 2 am. He was in line in front of me, and we talked nonstop until like 7 am when GEC opened. What a nice guy!!! Really sorry to hear this. I think about that night a lot. Summer night but chilly and we were bundled up in lawn chairs. He answered a lot of general knife questions and the whole Rendezvous gig. Just makes me sad when you hear about guys like this. He was a good one! I think you were in front of him. And I remember these photos posted on the Forum back when.
