What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

This may not be the place where this should be posted , but since it is one of the Highest Viewed threads there is , this is where I am going to post it and this will be tough for me to do .
Today I lost a very good friend to me and a good friend to many of you . His wife has asked to let you all know that @Half/Stop Ron passed away . He had open heart surgery for a Torn Aorta about 3 weeks ago and was back at home for about 2 weeks . He collapsed this afternoon and was rushed to the hospital but was not strong enough to survive . I know some of you asked about him , but he did not want it to be known as to why he wasn't on the Forums . At one point , it appeared that he was Okay a couple of weeks ago , but that eventually changed . I know for a fact that I will miss him and his phone calls .
When Ron was young and running a Paper Route he would go down to the local hardware store and buy a knife on lay-away . So you know he had been collecting for a few years . He was 66 years old . In the Louis Lamour books about the Sacketts , they talked about " A Guy Good Enough To Ride The River With " . I would have " rode the river " with Ron .

Harry
Such sad and unexpected news. My condolences to Ron's family and to his friends for their loss; I'll be praying that their happy memories can help them through this time of grief.

Thanks for letting us know here on The Porch, Harry, and thanks to everyone who posted their experiences with Ron that displayed his outstanding character. My impression of Ron from my interactions with him here is that he was a kind and gentle guy, very thoughtful and generous, even though his demonstration of those virtues was often "behind the scenes". But he was not "above" getting involved in some sneaky shenanigans at times!

Coincidentally, almost exactly 5 years ago, I received a package, labeled "Do not open until Christmas", with a return address from Tennessee. The only person I could think of that I even knew in TN was Ron, but he didn't know my address! I contacted him to ask about it, and he gave me some hogwash about Christmas being a time of surprises (just like my mom used to do when I was a kid). This is what I found when I opened the package after I returned from church on Christmas morning that year.

Inside the card was a very nice note:

Ron's almost-daily participation here at BF will certainly be missed.

Wishing you all a Wonderful Wednesday :)
The thrill of texture! Nice choice, John!:thumbsup::cool:

Carry for the day is always a dilemma, I decided it's "What, the Buck?" Wednesday:D

Both the cutting tools and the writing tools are impressive!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks. Since I joined here, I've been trying to use some of my knives that didn't get much use before (like my laguiole) or ones that I just didn't give a chance (SAKs). I've been pretty happy with the electrician so far, and I feel a bit foolish for thinking that Vics were somehow lesser knives in the past.
I'm carrying the electrician again today.

Enviable Electrician!:cool::thumbsup: How do you like the chisel grind on that sheepsfoot blade?

Thank you, GT. I'm still carrying it today at the workplace so I might as well post another pic.

Terrific trio, Shawn! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Lovely pair of lambsfoot Barlows, José!:thumbsup::cool:

Toting these two Robeson Electrician/TL-29s covered in walnut and cocobolo. :)
Your woody Robesons rock, JJ!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Regarding the 93OT versus the CSC BladeForums double-ended jack. When I read your question, I immediately thought CSC. Then I had to think why and realized it is a slimmer construction with the one spring.
Thanks for your opinion on the layout of a clip/sheepsfoot blade combo, Dean. :)
Your ebony Case medium stockman looks like it could melt some snowfall!:cool::thumbsup:

I've been enjoying my #66 the last couple of days - I paired it with this Case today as well.

Time for me to compliment you again on your frequent red/black pairings, Dylan; always so distinguished!:cool::thumbsup:

That copper looks very conducive to joy, Will! ;):cool:

For sort of a Thrifty Thursday theme, I have two rescues from abuse.
This one had horrible Dremel scars all over one side of the blade, even all the way up to the spineo_O. PLUS, it was bent an inch from the tip, enough so that it rubbed on the liner.
Both flaws were carefully not photographed by the auction site seller.
Anyhow, I like this commemorative Schrade New York Knife Co blade better.
View attachment 1475292 This old Utica Kutmaster caught my eye because of the lovely old cocobolo. It was dirt cheap because of the “modifications” that had been done to both blades. The screwdriver blade had been ground into a crude semblance of a clip blade, and overly aggressive “sharpening” had completely changed the shape of the spear main. This one was a lot of fun to re-shape and polish out. Based on what steel still remained, a loose semblance of a lambfoot was all I could get out of it.
STRONG springs on this one! It makes me very glad for the half stops. Ten fingers is better than nine.:eek:View attachment 1475294
I really admire your rescues, Jeff!:cool::cool: Today, the Kutmaster caught my attention, with its creative blade reprofiling. Do you have a belt grinder you use for that, or use just a file, or what?

Is the tool on the left a watch case opener, José? Another fascinating SAK!:thumbsup::cool:

Wow GT, that's a Bobby Dazzler!

I've had a very busy day today, and have been glad to have a couple of able companions with me :)

Thanks, Jack. :) I'm quite enamored with the stylistic excesses of my RR pearl gunboat!:rolleyes:
Capable pair for you!:thumbsup::cool: I need to hunt down a moose to see if I'd like a pattern with a full size blade at each end.

What a classic, Gev! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

It's cold and rainy but I'm heading to the woods for two and a half days, got my regular EDC 3318 with me for the next few days. Oh, and a couple of skinning knives in my pack. Plus there are always two or three Buck Knives in the truck - they are on display in the Buck Forum or you saw them last trip! OH
