Found a new fixed blade which is OUTSTANDING!!!

Hess Knifeworks from Michigan, got one of their Capers in carbon and Burl. Not expensive, really well turned out and a versatile compact knife for the hunter, rambler or knife-freak :D No pix sorry as ever, no camera, but you can find them on the net. Such quality at a more than reasonable price, custom makers beware.

Thanks, Will

That knife has character! I like the looks of the craftsmanship on that brand, at least on the examples I have seen on this forum. I need to look into one of their offerings. Like the long match strike pulls too.
I agree with all of this, I've been trying to keep form saying it because I seem to like everything right now, but I have liked evry picture of that knife I've seen .

so its official?
the haynhelper booted your opinel?

It has pretty much booted everything( except the ever present peanut ) when I carried a stockman it was alway the sheepsfoot that got used the most, the other plus is the pen blade which is really a spear blade, it's tight, 1/2 stops, good pull, good lockup, pinch open, handle is comfy and full, rides nice in the pocket, if ebony would be just about perfect.
Might be the longest I've gone without my #54 moose and/or Opinel #9.

I carried the Kabar KaLok again because I needed to sharpen it. And I carried my Dad's 34OT because I was thinking about him last night as Christmas approaches. It's got a broken tip on the clip blade, pretty much a trademark for my Dad. I have another OT in my desk that had a broken tip on the clip and on the sheepsfoot. Anyway, here is a picture of the pair:

One thing I've noticed about the 34OT is that the sheepsfoot is a large blade in comparison to the frame size. Lots of blade it is...

I was just wondering the same thing! I swear I thought that knife was carbon steel, do you keep it polished?

He better be carrying and using it as much as he has posted it. It is giving me big time angst because I can't find one. At least so far. I hope it looks a bit used compared to its new crisp image he is showing us. I love the look of that knife.

Very good proportions to that Kabar, enviable carry.

Will, I had one of these back in the day when they were being produced and I lost it. I decided to buy another if I could find one. I've seen several on the great knife re-homing site, but managed to get this one very reasonably. It was obviously a user which was fine with me as that's what I intended to do with it. They made three sizes of it. It was on the market about the time the Gerber Silver Knights were being produced possibly to compete with them in that market. The Silver Knights had a higher grade of finish, but the Ka-lok was handsome in its own right and a neat design. It locks and you pivot the rear bolster downward to unlock the blade. It's not obvious and some folks don't realize it when they use it. Opens easily with the nick or by pinching.
