This 48 is probably my second most carried knife, of late. (Behind the Buck 501...I actually split the 501 time between two versions; and if I factor that in, it would be close to a 3 way tie) View attachment 1542679

I hope Danijel's take on the puukko doesn't run afoul of the standards of this subforum - I noticed a puukko thread; so I figured it was safe.

Nice-looking Puukko :thumbsup:

These are some old posts I quoted early in the week, and now it's Friday already, and I have no idea what happened to the entire week! :eek::(

Nice to see Valley Jack again, a real Looker of a Lambsfoot. :cool::thumbsup:
Thanks, John. :)

I have the day off from work (sorta), I still have to prep...
So, something for heavy yard work, and something for Micarta Monday...
Those blade shapes are almost mirror images (except sharpened on opposite edges). :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Brings a sentimental tear to my eye!
My grandfather once sold me to a passing band of horse-thieves.

Dad turned their horses into glass to get me back.
"Please, Sir", they said, "Allow us to pack up those glass horses for you. Just take back your ... precious infant".
Interesting story from your youth, and a fantastic "study in blue" photograph! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for the pea-planting pro tip, and for the pic of a pleasing pair of pocket knives! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

A Happy Easter Monday to all:thumbsup::thumbsup:
That Schrade stockman is a satisfying slim slicer! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

You’re welcome, Gary. I’m also glad to report that it handled the carving of my roast lamb perfectly!
Can't ask for more than that! ;):cool::cool:

Happy Monday folks!
It's a nice day here. It always makes me suspicious of what's around the corner when we get 2 or 3 days of nice weather in a row!;)
The Lloyd Shadow insisted on being carried today. Who am I to argue.
Splendid stag, Gary! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

I'm going with ebony and shunkle today.

If I recall my 50-year-old college German correctly, "dunkel" means dark, so you've got a classic shunkle and dunkel pairing (perfect fidget toys for watching old Heckle and Jeckle cartoons)! :cool:;):cool:

Beautiful bone on that "little" cattle knife, Steve! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I'm carrying this Case Teardrop today.

View attachment 1540777
I really like your bonestag teardrop, Dean, but this one is also a winner! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: How many teardrop models do you have? Are they all 2-blade?

That's a superb dark moose! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

This Pal cattle knife was in my pocket throughout the Easter weekend, bit chunky but capable of handling any of my cutting needs.
Switched to a couple single spring/dual blade slims today, Charlie's HJ-10 and Robeson Shuredge. I really enjoy knives with no half stops that are smooth opening and have good snap, these two each fill that criteria. :)

Terrific trio, Greg! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Got my Hartshead Barlow, and a Random Tuesday RR :thumbsup:

Great sunny pile side pic of the stag HHB, Jack! :thumbsup::cool::cool: Is that a wood handle on the RR lockback?

Bringing out the big Case for Trapper Tuesday...
Delightful duo that could do double duty for Wooden Wednesday as well, John! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

A great day to all.
Bulldog blade bonanza! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Grand grain on your bocote (?)! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Couple of capable compact cutters! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I got two TEWs since it’s Tuesday!:D

I enjoy coming to two TEWs Tuesday, too (even if my participation is only vicarious)! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Iron River with Churchill.

Cherish the Churchill! ;):cool::cool:

Camillus 72

That's a first class photo of your "weird whittler" (weird in the sense of an unusual blade configuration for a whittler)! :cool:;):cool:

Interesting choices Gary :) :thumbsup:

Hope everyone's week is going well :) I've got my Hartshead Barlow in my pocket again, and a slim Boker Plus Atlas :thumbsup:
Thanks, Jack. :)
Admirable duo you selected! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

View attachment 1542717 Back in the olden days, we did not have computers. The internet was something you’d only hear about if you were fishing with a Swede, as in, “Ayup, tere’s sumptin in ter net, coz it be heavy”.
The hardware store carried Camillus, Schrade, Case, Buck, Imperial, Sabre, and Colonial knives, usually in rotating counter displays. Well, now that I think about it, I think the Imperials, Sabres, and Colonials were displayed in cheap, flat cardboard cutout displays.
The stores did not carry weird foreign knives, (except for the Made In Japan Sabres), so if one wanted a Swiss Army Knife, or an Opinel, it had to be mail order. If you looked in the back of Outdoor Life, Field&Stream, and Sports Afield, you would find little advertisements for specialty fishing, archery, camping, and backpacking specialty mail order houses inviting you to send for their free catalog. And let me tell you, those catalogs were filled with the stuff of dreams.
And that, boys and girls, is how I came to possess this Opinel no.8 in carbone.
Not my first, but in among my first few pocket knives.

I finally got my hands on this Pallares Solsona slip joint. Love at first sight. The fit is very good, finish is a bit rustic which I like. It has the feel of a country gentleman's knife all over it, a user for sure but with the pleasant character of a peasant knife. Action is also very good, with a healthy amount of snap and with a half-stop.

While at it, I bought also these two kitchen knives by the same maker. The larger has a 15 cm blade with ebony handle.
