This 48 is probably my second most carried knife, of late. (Behind the Buck 501...I actually split the 501 time between two versions; and if I factor that in, it would be close to a 3 way tie) View attachment 1542679
I hope Danijel's take on the puukko doesn't run afoul of the standards of this subforum - I noticed a puukko thread; so I figured it was safe.
Thanks, John.Nice to see Valley Jack again, a real Looker of a Lambsfoot.![]()
Those blade shapes are almost mirror images (except sharpened on opposite edges).
Interesting story from your youth, and a fantastic "study in blue" photograph!Brings a sentimental tear to my eye!
My grandfather once sold me to a passing band of horse-thieves.

Dad turned their horses into glass to get me back.
"Please, Sir", they said, "Allow us to pack up those glass horses for you. Just take back your ... precious infant".
Thanks for the pea-planting pro tip, and for the pic of a pleasing pair of pocket knives!View attachment 1540567 Soak your peas before you plant them for better germination.
That Schrade stockman is a satisfying slim slicer!
Can't ask for more than that! You’re welcome, Gary. I’m also glad to report that it handled the carving of my roast lamb perfectly!
Splendid stag, Gary!
If I recall my 50-year-old college German correctly, "dunkel" means dark, so you've got a classic shunkle and dunkel pairing (perfect fidget toys for watching old Heckle and Jeckle cartoons)!...
I'm going with ebony and shunkle today.

Beautiful bone on that "little" cattle knife, Steve!
I really like your bonestag teardrop, Dean, but this one is also a winner!
That's a superb dark moose!
Terrific trio, Greg! This Pal cattle knife was in my pocket throughout the Easter weekend, bit chunky but capable of handling any of my cutting needs.
Switched to a couple single spring/dual blade slims today, Charlie's HJ-10 and Robeson Shuredge. I really enjoy knives with no half stops that are smooth opening and have good snap, these two each fill that criteria.

Delightful duo that could do double duty for Wooden Wednesday as well, John!
Bulldog blade bonanza!
Grand grain on your bocote (?)!
Couple of capable compact cutters!
I enjoy coming to two TEWs Tuesday, too (even if my participation is only vicarious)!
Cherish the Churchill!Iron River with Churchill.

That's a first class photo of your "weird whittler" (weird in the sense of an unusual blade configuration for a whittler)!Camillus 72
