That's an intriguing Portuguese knife!!
Good man, Greg!It sure was a sweat fest digging in the direct sun, Gary, but grunt work is what I do best.
I'll pass on your compliment on our yard to the wife who does all the flower gardening. I assure you she will be tickled and sincerely pleased that you noticed.
74 & a Rooster for me today. The Fight'n Rooster never left the pocket but the GEC opened 15 bags of paver base to fill my trench when I got home from work today.

I felt like pulling out somebody's fingernails, for sure!...
Thanks much, Gary!
The premise of your chaperone story starts out with promise, but I’m not surprised at the reality. You might have felt like pulling your fingernails out with fencing pliers by the end of the trip!
Nobody ever accused ME of looking like Chuck Norris. Or Sean Connery, or Charles Bronson, either...
...
Cool photo!I carried this one today. Beer and Sausage and nuclear towers (decommissioned).

Splendid wood-handled higonokamis! The day of the higos. Japanese style by Julien Maria.

Coffe time![]()
Cool cobblers' tool, Jack, and a couple of cool tools from Charlie's output "in honor of" his surgery!I have a pair like that somewhere Gary, they were used by cobblers
Edit - Easier to find a photo online than to find my own photo, or the pliers themselves!

Thanks palIt's just the same with me, I'm the oldest, and my younger siblings seem to have had a quite different childhood

Thanks for the helpful background info on those knives, Gus.5K Qs
That’s (everlastingly sharp) as good as reason as any Gary lol !!
As a reminder, grab ‘em when you can as these were made by Camillus between 2004-07 and have bolster pins, not the Schrade Swinden System. They are somewhat of a heritage run with plastic tubes and literature in 60’s fonts that came out for their 100th anniversary and I would imagine ended with Camillus’ closure in ‘07. Model numbers are SWA293Y (trapper) and SWA834Y as today’s stockman carry….

The good ‘ole Hockey game pushes on again tonite, eventually grabbing a red something or other later on today. A great one to all![]()

Thanks for the info, Jack. Thanks Gary, it's supposed to be stag bone, like the RR stuff![]()
...
Fantastic photo!!![]()
Yesterday I wish I had sandwich and beer. Today I brought only the sandwich. Maybe on the weekend I bring both!![]()
Pleasant pair!
Thanks for taking time out from fishing to reply to me, John!Yes, I'm sad it's getting darker. It's inevitable though I guess.
He will soon fade into memory... but when he shows up again, I'll know the end is near.
Looks like a super handy pocket carry, GT.
That's my favorite Canoe I think.
...
I have a soft spot for my Lambsfoot knives, what can I say, I'm weak.
I ended up throwing a Vic Cadet in the mix as well, just in case I needed any small tools.
...
So true! Thanks, Gary. I like the wharncliffe version better than the standard. Yeah, everything is an emergency when it goes wrong with livestock. Luckily they practically take care of themselves, as long as you give them everything they need and check on them constantly.![]()
Sweet knife, but what really caught my eye was that door handle/latch!Some American chestnut for wooden Wednesday out in the yard.

With that drop point blade and handsome wood handle, that's a very appealing knife! Thanks for pointing those out! I'll have to try those when I get caught up on this series.
Changed up my carry for the first time in a while today, though I stuck with the 74 pattern. This one was a direct result of the generosity of fellow porch member @BDubbs.

Thanks, JJ.Marvelous threesome you have today, Gary; the KK Office Knife looks like a wonderfully cool old slicer, too!![]()

Thanks, Jack....
I always enjoy seeing that classic Office Knife Gary![]()

I'm off to the market tomorrow, with my Big Lambsfoot in tow![]()

Our little guy Gizmo is "celebrating" his 16th birthday today! Look at him getting all rowdy

Went to Hobbit Beach, didn't see any hobbits.
José, I always enjoy seeing photos of that knife, and I think this one above is the first time I saw both sides simultaneously! Very cool!

Good evening,That's an intriguing Portuguese knife!!
Good man, Greg!
(I think I might be getting too old for grunt work. I was supposed to dig out some volunteer maples that got started in some thick ground cover under a hemlock tree, but I had a heck of a time getting my shovel through all the vegetation and roots. Shouldn't have been such a challenge!)
I felt like pulling out somebody's fingernails, for sure!
I told the kids that I thought Chuck Norris looked like me, not the other way around!
Cool photo!
Have you had anyone objecting to what they claim are your GMO cattle??
Splendid wood-handled higonokamis!
Cool cobblers' tool, Jack, and a couple of cool tools from Charlie's output "in honor of" his surgery!
Memory is sometimes (almost always?) an unreliable "record", but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's finding that out!
Thanks for the compliment on my Case canoe and photo.
Thanks for the helpful background info on those knives, Gus.
My condolences on the end of the hockey season.
Thanks for the info, Jack.I also have some examples of Marbles stag bone that I think is quite good.
Fantastic photo!!
Pleasant pair!
Thanks for taking time out from fishing to reply to me, John!
So you actually ended up with 3 knives for your trip instead of one? A man after my own heart!
So true!
Sweet knife, but what really caught my eye was that door handle/latch!We used to have those on a couple of doors in the barn/sheds when I was a kid, and I may not have seen one for almost 50 years.
With that drop point blade and handsome wood handle, that's a very appealing knife!
Thanks, JJ.
Thanks, Jack.
That big lambsfoot will fit right in at the tool stall!
Stunning stag, Mike!
And Gizmo looks like a good ole boy!
Thanks for saying so, sir.

The king of patina.![]()
Because I can![]()
A very fine pair. Is the smaller one stag, or bone? Not gonna pretend I'm carrying these today. I think my trousers would fall down under the weight if I attempted it. But they are out. Recent acquisitions with lovely stag handles. Both main blades have had to be re-profiled due to damage but they're still good and functional with excellent snap. The mariners knife is by Joseph Allen & son and the other is Taylor Eye Witness, both of Sheffield.

First time anybody's complimented the shed latch. Thanks GTSweet knife, but what really caught my eye was that door handle/latch!We used to have those on a couple of doors in the barn/sheds when I was a kid, and I may not have seen one for almost 50 years.

Had this Case Texas Jack out after the mail run day
Noticed on the backside, all these chips and lines cut and some brown stuff smeared all over it
If I send it back, can Case fix it or should I just toss it and get another? ... Thanks !!!

I’ve left the camel bone 92 in that sheath constantly for that past week. So far so good. I’ll keep watching it. I have had a leather sheath that wasn’t good for knives. Something in the leather was slightly corrosive. So I do check all knives that are in new sheaths a lot, especially in the beginning.I've thought about lining my slips with shearling, but I was afraid of what all the oils in the sheeps wool would do to the knife materials. You'll have to report back on how it's doing.
Sure. I simply tap the sheath opening onto the palm of my hand twice and that normally loosens the knife. After that I’m able to pull the knife out with my thumb and fore finger. Now can you pull the knife back out?
It wasn't tuna fish was it?What a great picture, your pup has such an expressive face! Hope you don’t mind, but I couldn’t resist.View attachment 1595979
