What was your first GEC

My first GEC was a 97 in maroon linen micarta. It's funny looking back now because I was new to the porch back then and lurking on GEC for a while. I ended up missing out on some of the other patterns that ran before the 97s because they sold out quickly. When I saw the pre-order come through for the 97 I went crazy and ran to the computer to reserve one, just to watch them sit on the shelves for months untouched after they dropped.

Either way I still really enjoy the 97 and started tossing it in the pocket more often after reading the coke bottle thread @Pàdruig created a while back. It's still a very nice pattern. I just need to get better at sharpening it with that slight recurve blade.

This 77 that I got used was my first. The bolsters are all scratched up from not carrying it in a slip but it's still one of my favorites.

When I found the porch in 2012 my only experience with a traditional in my pocket was an old boy scout knife I bought at summer camp to whittle with. GEC knives was one of the biggest topics. Everyone was talking about a new "drop". It was called a Montana whittler and was on the 79 frame. I was intrigued and liked the idea of three useful yet different blades. I pulled the trigger and it's been down hill ever sense.

I stupidly sold it a few years later. That member sold it to another member awhile later. One day about a year ago now, maybe a little less I received a random package in the mail. @Rockon75 surprised me by sending me the 79 back. I was shocked and overjoyed all at once. I still cant thank him enough for his generosity! I carry it every few weeks and will never let it go again

681211 white owl / I dropped it shortly after I got it and cracked the bone . Gave it to my wife after the repair. It resided in her purse for 6 years . I got it back a few years ago in a hostage exchange . Cleaned the rust off , sharpened it and misplaced it for a year .CDF249F1-FCE2-4D66-890A-37F7E6072948.jpeg

I've been in the GEC game a long time. My first one was bought new in 2008 from knifeswapper, a Big Jack in burnt grizzly cut bone.
Still have it, too.

I was mesmerized by those two big, beautiful blades, especially that pointy, sexy spear. I soon realized, however, that a secondary straight-edge was a huge plus, and began collecting the #53 stockman pattern. Thirteen years later I have finally completed the set.

I'm still wet behind the ears in GEC time. I've long been a user and collector of more modern flippers, but last year's 23L is what pulled me into more traditional slippys. I absolutely love the 23 pattern, I know a lot of folks feel it is too big for edc but I have large hands and live close to wild places so it's my goldilocks.

My collection a few weeks after finding GEC several years ago. The first purchase were the three barlows from the same seller. I loved the blood red bone, still do. Collecting was still easy back then, the Presidential sat on the dealers site for weeks before I decided to get it.

This GEC Yellow Rose 23 single blade was my first GEC.

It was sent to me by a great member here when I asked if they were worth the money.

After years of carrying, I traded it to another great member to go with his larger collection of Texas Rose smooth bone knoves....for a jigged yellow rose 53 Cuban Stockman. Here it is waiting for for the branding irons to get hot..
