Thin coat then sand back to material. Then repeat. The goal is not to have a surface treatment like a varnish, but to fill in the voids and then with the light buff you have that nice shiny finish but it's not just the top coat. Bruce Bump had a great method of doing it that I mostly follow and if you do a Google search on it it'll come up.

got a new tool for the shop older powermatic 4224 wood lathe (left the bolts for the legs at owners shop 13 housr from house) after a run to the hardware store and a call to a friend with an motor puller i can at least get the 900Lb lathe on its feet

I'm making this one for one of my brothers coworkers at the nuclear power plant. My brother works in the instrumentation shop and his coworkers along with the electricians like to use these instead of the utility knives they've been using for stripping wire.

3/32" thick 1095 steel from Aldo Bruno with the edge at .012" thick before sharpening.
410 stainless steel bolsters
3/32" diameter 416 stainless steel pins
3/8" thick black paper Micarta scales
JB Weld and Loctite 325 adhesives although I think I'm going to quit using the JB Weld. It's so thick or I'm putting it on too thick and it makes it look like the bolsters don't fit tight to the tang like they should.

Hand shaping and hand sanding are next.

Yanagiba, 280mm edge (11") and 430mm (16.9") OAL, O2 steel, handle in wengue wood

I take lousy photos but a friend of mine is working to get some really nice pics done. He's not there yet but getting close. He says tomorrow he has some more powerful lights coming in which will allow him to use his light box. I can't wait to see the difference. A lot of work goes into good photography.

That's awesome, sort of a modern swayback. I'm sure you've answered this before but is the paper micarta you use available anywhere? I seem to recall that maybe you have it specially made.

First knife of 2016, a larger gunstock jack inspired slipjoint design I came up with:

5" closed, almost 9" open. 1095 and black g10.
