Nice John! So.... on that mycarta, did you press it against the tang as the form blank or against the shaped wood? That is a cool look!

Thanks Dave
I put it on the tang and wood on top all in one go,very messy to do but it forms a crazy strong bond

My first attempt at a slightly more contoured handle, with a palm swell in it as well. Also first time I used micarta, which was tougher to work with than expected. Blade is appr 0.13" thick RWL-34 at 4.85" length, handfinished with some grey scotch-brite-ish stuff I had laying around. Green canvas micarta sanded to appr 600 grit. Plan was to buff but I really like the over all matte look. Edge isn't finished yet.

Been a while since I posted here. So, here's one I'm trying to finish up. 80crv2 and curly maple.

Trying to figure out a way to apply aqua Fortis to the curly maple but get it to penetrate very deep and then send blocks off to k&g. I love the way it makes the wood look but it's kind of a pain to use! Also tried tru oil for the first time -- it dries way too fast for me! I have so much cleanup to do now it's crazy...
You've sure got that curly maple looking good. I really like the way the aqua Fortis brings out the color in curly maple.

Thanks brother :) It is truly amazing how it makes curly maple look. In person it is incredible even on moderately figured curly maple... I'm just not sure of its value in knife handles. I've tried shaping handle attached to knife and then using it... and I've tried prefinishing scales and then attaching them (like on this knife)... both methods have their drawbacks.

Prefinishing the scales eliminated my concerns of the heat required from ruining/weakening the epoxy bond... and elminated the corrosion it causes if you accidentally get it on your tang or wherever. But at least on this hard maple the penetration of the aqua fortis just wasn't that deep. After peening the pins and grinding them flush it was incredibly hard to not ruin the finish lol... leading to alot of minor touchups... which pretty much defeated the purpose of all the prefinishing I did.

This is where I left it - too many small imperfections for me to persue it any further. Sharp as heck though - it could cut paper before I added a 17dps edge on it.

What do you think of the over all design? I was hoping for some input lol

I really like the over design. To me that curve in the handle blends with the blade nicely giving the overall knife a "flowing" (maybe "graceful" is a better word?) look. Good job.
