I figure yall may get a kick out of this... I've been MIA for the past couple weeks working on this "top secret" restoration... I was finally able to finish it up last weekend!

It's a 1937 atlas / craftsman lathe that my dad had in his back shed. The thing needed some TLC, but overall it's in good working order! Especially now that I took the whole darn thing apart and gave it a make over.

I'm hoping to use this guy for pommel nuts and finials on my future hidden tang knives. Maybe some custom fasteners too for full tangs.

Cheers,
RBO

More progress...

Here's a new Tombstone Marauder in progress, 80CRV2 in bocote, leather and elk with blued guard and pommel. It's about 12.5" OAL and just needs final touches before final fitup, gluing and sharpening, then burnish the sheath edges.Wip1.jpg Wip2.jpg

I've been enjoying seeing you post pictures of Pancho's work, Pablo. Thanks for sharing.
I might be getting inspired to start making leather sheaths for my kitchen knives...

Just be sure toget good quality leather. I bought some cheap stuff from an unnamed common source, and it just does not finish well..

Thanks!
I forwarded your message to him. He is on the forums, hopefully he shares more of his work here.

Spent the weekend finally fabri-forging (very little forging, though) quick change die plates for the press:

Made some squaring dies:

and on the press:

I've been on a bit of a research kick lately regarding old rag micarta and I have 3-4 various "objects" in the mail that I am 99.9% sure should contain some of that old good stuff but may also be a complete waste of money :)

Also working on another slipjoint. Do these things ever get easier?

One of these days I might actually make a folder. Soon! In the meantime I have a few projects to tackle. First being this fixture for doing tang stamps in my arbor press. It isn't pretty but its perfect where it counts and should get the job done. Next up is an SGA for my Ameribrade.
