Eric, When using mosaic pins, Always try and "clock" the pins so they are all the same orientation.

A good trick for doing this is to saw a shallow slot in the end at the orientation you want to be the 12:00-6:00 o'clock line ( thus, "clocked"). This will assure that the pins are all oriented the same when ground flush after assembly. The slot also makes it easy to turn the pins during glue-up.

My first frame handle with steel. Steel frame is half the thickness of spine of knife .I think it would look cool that way

Yes I am reamly liking the big wheel hollow grind, Excellent geometry! And belts work better + longer on wheels.
Yes I only do free hand grinding so far. Thanks, it's getting there!

Yes I was trying to clock the pins but things were getting so messy and the solvent I was using wasn't cleaning up the epoxy very well, so I started panicking and forgot to rotate the pins!

what works best for epoxy, denatured alcohol, acetone?

Acetone usually works great, brake cleaner is good,Hoppes#9 gun cleaner has been great, even WD-40 works sometimes . But I was out of everything and reached for a can of starting fluid which didn't work too good! I probably shouldn't have started working on the knife until I got some more acetone...

Personally i like them more if maker don t clock them ................look so uniform that way .They are not timing belts and that they should be tuned so to be aligned perfectly......they are just nice looking pins , upside downside at seven clock .....no mater

Yeah, I don't even use mosaic pins much anymore, but when I do I look for ones that don't have so much of a geometric pattern so they don't need clocking.

^that's cool as hell

today I dug this motor out of purgatory- it ran the previous grinder- and think it will make for a good disc grinder. Might be able to squeeze it into that tiny space but only just. I think I'll build a sliding shelf for it, but only just started thinking about it. It's 1.5hp and runs at 1750rpm. I wonder if it's possible to run it through the vfd my grinder uses?
