This is slipjoint #7, my first warncliffe.
I'm technically content with it being my 7th slipjoint. Designwise I've learned the I like the point to be lower than I have on this one and that the width ratio between the blade and the handle could have been better.
I've used east-German, DDR rag micarta as handle scales and I'll be using more of that!

On my journy towards making a good slipjoint I made myself a handy EDC

I'd built this damascus Ranchero 2/3 years ago. The customer contacted me and told me that he'd had a house fire. Literally everything was gone, burnt to the ground. This was the only thing he could salvage.

I was worried about the extra tempering cycle but a file still skated.

Ground it clean and re etched the damascus:

I did find a small crack when I was testing the sharpness. I do this after sharpening by slicing paper and the edge kept catching in the same place. The crack extends from the edge on up bout a 1/4" and is about an inch in front of the plunge. Ya can make it out in that last pic. I offered to reprofile the blade for the customer but he decided to let it be.. More of a momento anyways.

Looks like new! I'm surprised the mosaic pins survived the fire. Aren't they filled with epoxy?

I was too. I use JB Weld under the bolster and that survived as well. There was a mosaic pin in the handle (I rebuilt it as it was originally), that didn't. Quien sabe?

Little edc/b&T prototype for testing. rwl34, hidden pins and micarta. Simple and compact. This one is going in my fresh water fishing kit for testing over the next few months.

Working on an assortment of pieces. The first is Shiro2 with 22 layer suminagashi cladding I picked up at bladeshow. The second is a small carving/detail knife with a hamon and the last one is 375 layer 8670+15N20 Damascus with a leather sheath from Popsknifesupply.
I’ve been using that Takefu Suminagashi since 2016, still one of my favorite forging steels. The core steel pattern tells me it Looks like you used a press?
