A pretty serious plate of .8" Latrobe A2 cut into the biggest blanks I've ever started a knife with.

17 inch 10 pound knife blank because integral daggers. 9 1/2 pounds of material to remove ea, good lord. warranted a photograph...

WOW Nathan, not a very efficient design--I'd like to see an outline of that knife--only 8oz's of material?? Interesting....

I was just being approximate, it's a fair bit more than 8 oz.

To be more precise the starting blank is approximately 17 X 2.75 X .8 and weighs about 10 1/2 pounds (oh my cow) and the finished raw blade will weigh 12 oz, so I have about 9 pounds 12 oz to remove. The finished knife will have a 10" blade and will be 15.3" in total length. It's a variation of this: http://www.fototime.com/8300BFBE28207DF/orig.jpg but it's a little less curvy with a longer blade and a more substantial guard.

I'm using a bit more material that I really need to in order to keep some material all around to help support the work during the machining.

Just working on some knives from 4,7mm 1065 >.>

Now those knives going to HT :)

Aaron...I don't have any experience with the CPM M4 in a heat treated blade....yet! This is my first encounter with the stuff. So far, I can say that it was very easy to file and cut into as it arrived very soft from Niagra. Again...thank you for the permission to use the design of the Resolute. I have one in Cru Forge V that I just love to death...and want one more in CPM M4!!!

Hey Nick....thanks for the tip on drilling holes before the bevels are done. I don't know why I didn't this time around. I usually do exactly that....as it is easier to clamp on to the flats rather than a bevel!!!! I think I was super anxious to start the ole' Pferd chipbreaker up. It's a single stroke jobber and uses a gas/oil mix!

Thanks mate, looking forward to seeing what you make of CPMM4!

This is my 3rd knife and my first knife being made with the new tools in my new shop. I feel the grinds came out quite well considering this was my first time using a 2x72 grinder and the only instruction I've had is through various youtube vids (Butch and Wheeler). She's ready for HT and will be working on a few more knives before I send them all over to Peter's.

Looks pretty good! My first knives off the grinder were much less pretty than that!

I'd take it easy with the holes, especially in the thin neck of the handle.

Copy that, I will be doing some extensive testing to see just how weak it is. I was a little aggressive when profiling the knife with a 36 grit blaze belt. Needless to say, you get better through practice and the second one came out the way I meant it to.

Just some stuff i've been working on the past few days. Small blades are aldo 1084-v with hemp underlay and paracord wrap, the kukri is 5160 and cholla handle. Gonna finish up the sheaths then hopefully to the sale forum.

I love the rustic look of the small blades. They look like something an orc from Lord of the Rings might carry, nice work!

Almost complete:

Just sent to heat treat yesterday:

I haven't done one of these in a while. These are time consuming.

10" blade, 15 1/4" overall, 3" hollow grind with prominent center "rib", ~5/16 at ricasso, 11.8 oz .

...so much stoning to do...

Would love to see the fixture you built to support the half-finished knife while doing the second side Nathan!

I made a stout aluminum fixture to hold the blank and I used epoxy to support the workpiece after the turn.
