5mm thick hardened 52100 steel , two things can happen next , either the handle , spine of tang and pins will turn out to be quite unusual , or it will be destroyed without the possibility of repair. 🤣

got my stool all put together and so far so good. I'm gona put a crank and pedals on it which can be adjusted between two positions. Don't know how it's gonna work yet, but I pulled out an old bent pair of XTR cranks I hoarded and will mount em up tomorrow and go from there.

so far, it's very light and easy to move around via the bar at the back of the saddle. Might need more cushioning and a nice leather cover

Another "K tip" hunter almost ready, I'll be gluing up tonight. the first one in ironwood is at it's new home. I mentioned a second in the sales thread and it became a custom order right quick. That's why I almost always grind in pairs whenever possible.IMG_4027.JPG

Fantastic Made me laugh when you were going for the bars. :)

I cant remember where the XTR is on the cranks but you made me think that would be a great butt on a knife "XTR" wow.......

I finally finished this one minus putting an edge on it. It should have been done yesterday but I sanded and etched it 3 times trying to get the finish right. Still not quite what I envisioned but it’s growing on me.

These are my last two knives for 2023. I made it to my long term goal for the first time - 12 knives per year. Good stuff. And I have a month to spare, do some maintenance on my machines, and I even have some spare blades after HT that just need polishing and a handle, so I am already ahead for 2024. I have no idea how I would make a living doing this though. I suppose I would finally lose some weight.

Gyuto in N690, bronze and katalox, 1.8mm thick at the spine. I was worried about milling such a narrow slot in the guard, so instead I milled a shallow channel into a block, then sliced it in half, and silver soldered the halves together (channel side facing each other). Then I just cleaned it up with a tiny end mill. Worked like a treat. I can not claim I invented this method, but I do not remember seeing it anywhere. Also if you are familiar with the work of Will Stelter, you may recognize the handle shape - I shamelessly stole that from his website since I liked it a lot. Credit where credit is due.

Good idea

Congratulations pafka pafka ! It’s always great to meet a goal, and with exceptional results like those two knives I don’t see how you couldn’t make a living.

Very nice and very clean finish. Don't worry about the handle shape, I don't think it is as original as you think. I like the hollow grind on the front of the bolster. Also, if you watched last vid by W. Stelter, you will see that thin kitchen knifes are "so last year" :)

I finally have some free time to do whatever I want in the shop until Peter’s and JT send me some blades back.

So I started a skinner:

And modded one of my pokey short sword blanks into a 9” dagger for a gentleman. Awaiting hande material for that one. Suretouch of a color I’m out of stock on.

And also modded my personal Barax machete. I had the misguided notion to give it a super thick handle with a palm swell but it was too thick and round so I could not use it easily for nimble cuts and slashes, though it was fine as a chopper. The girth and roundness was no good for edge alignment on fast direction changes. Now with a slightly thinner and flatter handle cross section it does both, and would be a fine martial blade in addition to woods tool.

Front of the scales were already slightly tapered so I barely even had to touch them, meaning original sheath fits just as well as before without needing modification.
