This Stag Hunter is one of my recent projects. It has a 26c3 carbon steel blade. The handle deer antler with a brass button guard. The spacers are G10, brass, and desert iron wood.

I had some electrical work done, and I'm still picking up the pieces. I've been fighting over the sub panel size for the new shop for far too long, so I figured the garage needed to be set up better for now to get by. I added a 240v 20amp breaker for the two grinders, and three new, dedicated 120v 20 amp circuits.

Since I was doing a bunch of wiring, I picked up a second VFD so I can set the 9" disc back up that I use as a power lapper without running back and forth between machines, or dealing with a pendant. :D

Of course... Me being me, I decided to do this just as I was about to render the 9" disc more or less redundant. 😂🤣

When it comes to processing knife scales, one of my least favorite things in the shop is changing the paper on my drum sander. I also haven't been pleased with my finish sanding process before buffing. I've been using a random orbit sander which causes the edges to be rounded over more than I like, and it can also be a pain securing scales. I'm hoping these surface grinding scale/block holders will alleviate both issues.

Tomorrow I'm going to try leaving 36 grit paper on the drum sander full-time for removing bandsaw marks (I might step this up to 60 or even 80 grit depending on how it goes). Then I'll hit the scales on the surface grinder up until 400 grit, and then buff. We'll see how that does. :)

I made a grinding rest like Meades shows in a youtube-vid and I realy like it! It supports but also gives freedome to hold the blade at any angle you like.

I got six slipjoint blades back from HT plus four practice blades.
I did this practice blade yesterday and ground a real one today. I'm happy with this one, the grindline is even and she is nice and thin, app. 4/1000"
The brown handle is temporary, she'll get jigged bone scales.

I use them for jigging bone or micarta.
I got them of AliExpress. I don't know their exact name but I found them searching for "T-slot". These have round corners, most have square

New glass! JB weld just seems so messy. We’ll see how the VHB tape holds up. The only .05” stuff I had on hand was 1” wide, so it’s doubled up. I imagine 2” tape would have been even easier.

I would be very leery of your setup, Fixall Fixall That tape heats up and it'll let that plate slide. At the very least, you need to tap a couple holes below that glass and add a couple of cap screws to act as a slide-stop. What you have there as-is gives me the heebie-jeebies.

It’s hard to see but there is a shelf below the glass that it’s sitting on. :)

It’s a high temp VHB at least. 😂

Sorry I missed that. No offense intended, just thoughts for your safety. And I hope the tape holds; then come back and tell us the brand and model number, please! :)

Not at all! With my very limited experience, I’ll take all the advice I can get!! I’ve read of others having some good success with VHB tape, but we’ll see how it goes! Shield, apron, and leather romeos are always worn while grinding. :)
