How do you like that blade of John's? I've lost count of how many times I have almost claimed one of his, only to hesitate and forget later.

I like it a lot. This one is in NitroV, nice F&F. Handle is very generous, warm and grippy - and as I know you cook - it’s very nice on a board with the index finger room. Sheath is great as well.

The girlfriend brought over 6 bananas that she said were "too ripe."

They weren't too ripe but needed to do something with them. So, decided to make somre banana nut bread with them.

Simple recipe. Turned out ok.

For each loaf: 2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco), 1 tsp baking soda, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts and 3 bananas. If the bananas aren't ripe, you can cook them in the microwave until they are soft and then mash them w/a potato masher or matate until smooth.

Preheat oven to 325.

Cream the sugar w/the shortening. Mix the flour, baking soda and walnuts together. Scramble the eggs and add w/the sugar/shortening mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix well and put into greased bread loaf pans.

Bake for 2.5-3 hrs til a skewer can be insertered/removed from the loaf w/o anything sticking to it.

Done! ;)

Had a couple of 2.5# sections of pork butt available, so I made some pork ragu for New Year's Eve.

It's easy to make. Just braise a 1-2# section of pork butt in a pot w/what you'd normally use to make a pasta sauce (or some variation of that) and cook until it can be fully shredded. Add water as needed to keep it going and then cook down til the "sauce" is a thick consistency suitable for ragu.

Then serve over thick paparadelle pasta and top w/Parmesean, chopped Italian parsley and some of your favorite EVOO. And enjoy!

My wife cooked the obligatory Pork, Cabbage & Black Eye Peas for lunch and it was as great as it should be !

Dinner was on me.
American Wagyu Ribeyes my brother gave me for Christmas, sweet potatoes from a neighbor farm and an end of cheesy bread.

2023 started STRONG…

but it’s going downhill from here.

Visited my favorite "indoor" pizza/craft beer joint today -- New Year's Day.

Never had one before, so I ordered a Michelada for the 1st time. Guess you could call it a Mexican Bloody Mary. It was ok. I can check it off my "bucket list" but I doubt that I'd order another 1 again. Maui Waui was the "chaser" in the other glass.

Didn't take a pic of the pizza today but it was that same as this one that I posted a pic of previously. It's called their "Meathead" pizza.
