Guess it's Reuben day. 16oz combo Reuben, corned beef/pastrami, with a latkes.

Menudo with patas (pigs feet) and 2 bottles of Modelo (already drank 1) for lunch today.

Haven't drunk or eaten any yet but before I had menudo for lunch I bought 2 bottles each of Sabbatical Staight Bourbon & their Table Blend Whiskey and got 11# (5kg) of asparagus included for FREE!!!

Sabattical is a local distillery near me that makes some very good whiskey and also a very good gin. I like to support local businesses when I can.

One of the owners of Sabbatical is the son of one of the owners of Victoria Farms which mainly grows blueberries but just started growing/selling asparagus again this year as well.

This is the pretty much the last of this year's asparagus crop. Going to make a lot of asparagus soup and some asparagus risotto with the lot.

Temps dropped so I made some jambalaya with chicken and sausage, stewed gumbo on the side, and a ripe Serrano that was astonishingly bland. Almost perfect.

16 ounces?!? You trying to give Carnegie Deli a run for it's money?


EDITED TO ADD . . . except for a small storefront at MSG, and an associated mail order business, Carnegie has been closed for years, so maybe it's an obscure reference. But it used to be maybe the greatest deli in the world. About 30 years ago, I ate THREE meals off of one Carnegie Reuben sammich.

Think I'm exaggerating?
