I don't use a knife for fire wood processing, If I need to chop I carry a hatchet or machete . We are going car camping this weekend the knives that are on my clothes to change in to before we leave are the red sak farmer and the modded old hickory. Any of the knives in this picture would do for a camp knife for my use Roy
After years of fondling different knives, I've pretty much settled on the Busse NMSFNO as my all-around, hard-use camp/field knife. If the situation were just slightly tamer and ridiculous ultra-bombproof durability wasn't a top priority, I'd feel very well equipped with my custom NWA H.O.S.S. fixed blade-it is a most excellent example of hand craftsmanship. And I certainly wouldn't feel 'under-knifed' with my Swamp Rat R6 either... BOSS
I have found 6" blades to be the perfect size for camp/field use. At least for me. Big enough to handle a survival situation yet small enough for light general tasks as well. Thus, my three main blades are as follows: Fallkniven A1, ESEE-6, and a SwampRat RMD (Prototype version). I'll be up front and tell you that the Fallkniven gets carried about 80-90% of the time. I simply have yet to find a better, more well thought-out knife than this. The SwampRat is probably my least favorite. And with their sheaths. I equip all my camp/survival knives with some kind of Victorinox multitool and a firesteel.
this one now (before it got scuffed up) and before that... the bk7, paired with an Emerson for small stuff...
Fiddleback forge custom by Andy Roy. The smaller knife is a Ladyfinger, also made by Andy to match. Very happy with both of them and they complement each other well.
"Moot Iron" 8 3/4" blade in 01, Camp knife from Longstrider knives. Bushtool 3 3/4" blade in 01, from Rob Evans.
My "old" favorite was the Cold Steel Bushman but now I have a BK16 and a BK14 so they work really well for camp/Bushcraft
